fix: report errors inside a mixin body at their real location - #4564
Any location the inner node had already recorded is discarded.
Change
The catch now preserves an existing location and falls back to the call site only when the error does not carry one. The other throw sites in the file are deliberately untouched — the ambiguous default() error, "No matching definition", and the undefined-mixin NameError all correctly describe the call itself rather than something inside the body.
Tests
Added packages/test-data/tests-error/eval/mixin-call-body-error.less + .txt, using case A from the issue. It now reports line 6, column 3; before the change it reported line 10.
Updated packages/test-data/tests-error/eval/detached-ruleset-5.txt. That existing fixture encoded the buggy behaviour: in its source, @a() is used on line 2, but the expected output pointed at line 4 (the call site). The new output is line 2, column 3, which is the correct location.
This change was developed with AI assistance (GitHub Copilot); the issue analysis, fix design and test review were human-reviewed.

Bug Fixes
Error messages for mixin-related failures now retain the original source location and filename when available, rather than replacing them with the mixin call site. When the original details are missing, the call-site location is used as a fallback. This provides more accurate error locations and relevant source context when diagnosing compilation issues.
MixinCall.eval() caught errors from evaluating the mixin body and unconditionally overwrote index and filename with the calling mixin location, discarding the real error location. Preserve an existing location and fall back to the call site only when the error carries none. Adds a regression fixture and corrects detached-ruleset-5, whose expectation encoded the old behaviour. Walkthrough
Mixin-call error handling now preserves existing source locations from caught errors. It uses the call-site location only when an error’s index or filename is undefined. Error fixtures update the detached-ruleset location and add a mixin-body syntax-error case.

The catch block retains defined error index and filename values, using the call-site values only when either property is undefined. The error fixtures update the detached-ruleset location and add a mixin-body syntax-error case.
Errors raised inside the tested mixin bodies now report their source locations. No merge-blocking issue was identified.

Explanation
Issue #4559 requires errors from mixin bodies to retain the source location inside the body. MixinCall.eval() now preserves err.index and err.filename, and uses the outer call location only when a field is absent. The new fixture verifies the ruleset-on-property error at line 6, column 3. This logic also preserves the location of an undefined nested mixin call. The updated detached-ruleset fixture verifies an inner line 2 location. The reported error tests passed.

Object.assign instead of object spread keeps native message/stack (non-enumerable on Error) available to LessError. Addresses CodeRabbit minor review comment.

Problem
Errors raised inside a mixin body are reported at the mixin's call site instead of at the line inside the mixin where the error actually occurs.
This reports the error at line 10:
The failing declaration is on line 6. With longer mixins this makes errors very hard to track down, which is the point raised in the issue.
Cause
MixinCall.eval()wraps mixin-body evaluation in a try/catch that unconditionally overwritesindexandfilenamewith the calling mixin's location:Any location the inner node had already recorded is discarded.
