A template is built from coadds of a single instrument: the science image's, if any coadd was made from it, and otherwise the one most coadds were made from. Coadds from any other instrument are dropped.
The template variance is now corrected for the change in pixel area whenever the template coadds were made from a different instrument than the science image, and a factor that cannot be determined logs a warning instead of raising. The field never appeared in a versioned release, only in weeklies w.2026.38 to w.2026.42, so it is removed without a deprecation period.
