Hi, I'm Nebiyu 👋

Data Science @ Truman State · Break Through Tech AI Fellow · GPA 3.7

First-gen Ethiopian student turned data scientist. I started with astrophysics, detoured through creative work and social media analytics across Ethiopia and Dubai, then realized that quantifying human behavior at scale was the most interesting problem I could find. I work at the intersection of numbers, people, and product.

Currently: Presidential Scholar at Truman State University, VP of the Community of College Entrepreneurs, and 2026–2027 Break Through Tech AI Fellow through Cornell University.

Health Insurance Cost Prediction — Full ML System (adj. R² = 0.84)

End-to-end ML pipeline in Python predicting insurance costs with adj. R² of 0.84. Trained and optimized 5 regression models (Linear, Polynomial, Random Forest) using GridSearchCV and cross-validation. Deployed via Streamlit web app with saved encoders, scalers, and model artifacts using joblib for real-time predictions.

Born and raised in Ethiopia. Volunteered with childhood cancer awareness organizations (co-led a $5,000+ fundraiser), Red Cross, Rotary Interact, and autism centers. Competed in national math competitions. Worked as a Content Analyst at D!NK Multimedia in Addis Ababa. Digital marketing experience across Dubai and Ethiopia.

I believe data is most powerful when it explains people, not just numbers.
