Approval request page: after approving, the target summary card still reads "Status Submitted / Approved 0.00" while the request strip below reads "Status Approved" #27502

Found in the 18.3.0 release-candidate browser walkthrough (wave anchor #27377, card W3-UX), at framework main @ c4c515ad, Console built in-repo from the same commit.

Repro (fresh boot)

  1. Boot examples/app-showcase with --seed-admin and sign in as admin. Viewport 1440×900.
  2. Open the bell, then Approval requested, then the EXP-DEMO request ("High-Value Expense — Committee Quorum").
  3. Click Approve, then Confirm. Reload the page.

Expected

The page tells one story. The summary card of the record being decided matches its current state; the walkthrough's API read showed the expense report itself as approved.

Actual

  • The upper card, the expense report's summary, still shows Status Submitted and Approved 0.00.
  • The strip below shows Status Approved and Approval Step Committee Sign-off (2 of 3).
  • Before the decision, the page read Waiting on Dev Admin ×3 beside "1 eligible approver", with no explanation of the ×3.

Related, closed: #25469 (the sign-off approval not writing its outcome back to the expense report).

    ⛔ Not a claim.

    • Read fresh. After approving, the approval request page's target summary card still reads Status Submitted / Approved 0.00 while the request strip reads Approved and the record itself is approved. Wrong data shown: p2.
    • The summary card reads the target record's current state, the same read the strip uses, instead of a stale copy.
    • bug, pm:queue.

The upper card is RecordSnapshotSummary over request.payload, the target record as submitted. So the triage line's 'the same read the strip uses' does not hold: the strip never reads the target record. (2) A maintainer ruling pins the snapshot: #10749 ruling record 5377367175 (2026-08-22, Option B, verbatim acceptance 「接受所有」): the full snapshot stays at rest 'preserving the approval record as audit evidence of what was actually submitted', redacted at serve time per reader. The landed seam's docblock (plugin-approvals payload-redaction.ts, section 'What this deliberately does NOT do') adds: 'An approver routinely has no read grant on the object under approval at all ... the snapshot is how they see what they are approving.' objectui PR #12533 (fixes objectui#12483, objectui commit 521817ce9) built the panel on that row and kept the live target on the page as the Details tab's record_id pointer card (RecordPreviewCard), by design. The objectui#12483 issue comments themselves are NOT MEASURED (objectui issue API answers 403 to this session). Per the dispatch's fork guard: stopped, needs_decision, not picked by code. (3) The real defect either way: the snapshot face carries no heading, so 'Status Submitted' and 'Approved 0.00' read as the record's current state beside a strip that reads the request's. (4) The x3 is approverChips' count (one person holding three quorum slots collapses to one chip with a count) beside eligibleApproverCount's '1 eligible approver': a different read of the request row, not this card's defect; listed in out_of_scope_findings.",

Business: the face matches the record after a decision for readers who can read the target. Long-term: reverses what ruling 5377367175 made the approver's view (the evidence of what was submitted) and gives one face two sources chosen by the reader's grants, a fallback the panel must hide or explain; the live target is already on the page as the Details card. AI-error: a consumer-side fallback between two sources is the tolerant shape AGENTS.md #0.1 warns against, and a test must pin both branches. Business: answers the reporter's actual confusion (unlabelled submitted values beside the request's status) for every reader, including those without target read. Long-term: matches ruling 5377367175 and the landed design (snapshot in the panel, live in the Details card). AI-error: no new read path, no fallback. Startup scope: smallest change. Work: S.",

    Ruling: needs_decision fork review (project review thread 「决定审批页摘要卡数据来源」) · letter B · maintainer 「对于这种类似的问题,能否你自己开一个单独的 fable thread 做评审,对于自己有把握决定的问题,自己决定,不能决定的开决策卡?」 2026-10-29T14:47Z

Proxy ruling under the maintainer's delegation quoted above, by the review thread's session session_01Utp6CaU6KWaLaboEFNJk4A (project thread), on the domain:ui#4 card thread's report 6499712026 (dispatch 6499632812). Marker: auto-adjudicated. ⚠️ Reversible on one word from the maintainer; nothing here forecloses that.

What the review thread re-verified (code read at 492703e1; the card thread measured at 4a00b2b7)

    • The two faces read two different rows, as the report says. The strip is the served page's record:highlights over the REQUEST row: ['process_label', 'status', 'current_step_label', 'submitter_id', 'updated_at'] in packages/plugins/plugin-approvals/src/sys-approval-request.page.ts (pinned by sys-approval-request-page.test.ts). Its "Status Approved" is the request's status. The upper card is RecordSnapshotSummary over request.payload / request.payload_display (ApprovalDecisionPanel.tsx), the target record as submitted, redacted per reader by the approvals service. The triage line 「the same read the strip uses」 does not hold: the strip never reads the target record.
    • The snapshot face draws no heading. RecordSnapshotSummary.tsx returns the lead amount and a two-column grid of declared fields, under field labels only; nothing on the page says these are the submitted values. So "Status Submitted / Approved 0.00" sits beside the strip's "Status Approved" with nothing to tell a reader which row each one reads. That is the defect, and it is a labelling defect.
    • The live target is already on the page, by design: the served page's own header comment keeps the record_id / object_name pointer pair in the Details tab, where the console draws the target's current state as RecordPreviewCard (ui/packages/app-shell/src/views/record-preview/), and says that card may be unable to read the target (the reader may lack the grant, or the row is gone).
    • The reader may lack read access to the target: payload-redaction.ts, section "What this deliberately does NOT do": 「An approver routinely has no read grant on the object under approval at all — that is the normal shape of an approval, and the snapshot is how they see what they are approving.」 A live read on the decision panel therefore needs a refusal branch for the common case, not an edge.
    • The "×3": approverChips (ui/packages/app-shell/src/views/RecordApprovalsPanel.tsx, outside this card's file surface, shared with the business record's approvals panel) collapses the slots one principal holds into one chip with a count; eligibleApproverCount (approval-progress/eligibleApprovers.ts, objectui#12781) counts distinct principals. On the stock showcase the committee node routes to the positions manager, finance, legal (2 of 3) and seed-approval-demo.ts grants the admin all three, so the admin's single chip reads ×3 beside "1 eligible approver". Both numbers are correct readings of the request row; the copy explains neither. A different read and a different file: not this card's defect.

    Governing text

    The ruling: B

The decision panel keeps the submitted snapshot and names it as such. No live read of the target from the panel; no field-level change marking.

Fixed here, so the dev opens no second decision:

    1. The heading. RecordSnapshotSummary draws one heading over its content, in the muted label style the panel already uses for 「Waiting on」, and ONLY when it draws something (inside DeclaredSummary's root, after the keys.length === 0 return), so no heading ever stands over an empty face.
    2. The copy. One new key in the approvalsInbox namespace of the ui language packs (ui/packages/i18n/src/locales/*.ts), approvalsInbox.snapshotAsSubmitted: en As submitted, zh 提交时的内容; the other eight packs translated in the same PR, pinned by the ten-pack pattern ApprovalDecisionPanel.test.tsx already uses for decisionPanelOffRequestPage. ⛔ No tracker number in the copy.
    3. The pins. (a) Decided state: a request row status: 'approved' whose payload carries the target's own status: 'submitted' under a declared select field draws the heading and, under it, the submitted value; no 「Waiting on」 row (the existing control at line 321 stays). (b) Pending state: the heading is drawn too, because it names provenance, not status. (c) Control: a row whose summary draws nothing draws no heading. (d) The ten-pack pin for the new key.
    4. The docblocks. ApprovalDecisionPanel.tsx section 1 and RecordSnapshotSummary.tsx's header name the heading and why: the panel's face is the submitted snapshot (ruling of record on [finding] approvals: sys_approval_request.payload_json snapshots the full raw row and serves it to approvers unfiltered — object-level hidden: true and FLS declarations cannot reach inside the JSON blob #10749); the current record is the Details tab's pointer card.
    5. The card's acceptance line 「after a decision and a reload, the page does not contradict itself (summary card vs strip)」 is met by provenance: the summary says which row it reads. The PR's Acceptance notes correct the triage attribution (the strip reads the request row, not the target).
    6. ⛔ Not: a live read of the target from the panel, with or without a snapshot fallback (A); marking fields that changed since submit (B2, which needs A's read); any change under packages/** outside ui/; RecordDetailView.tsx; any change to approverChips or eligibleApproverCount.
    7. The ×3 is its own card, filed by the seat through the relay: domain:ui · area:workflow · S · 「a principal holding N of a step's approver slots: the chip's ×N and the eligible-approver count need the copy that reconciles them」, with the showcase seeding (the admin holds all three committee positions) named as why the stock walkthrough always shows it. Its wording is that card's to decide. Not in this PR.

Why B, on the four axes (business standpoint)

    • ① Long-term soundness (weight ≥50%). The approval request is the record of a decision: what was put in front of the approver, and what they said. Its face must stay what it was when the decision was made, as a signed purchase order shows the terms signed, not today's price list. The ruling of record keeps the snapshot as that evidence at rest and on the serve path; the panel is the serve path's face. The page already gives a reader who may read the target its current state, in the Details tab. A gives one face two sources chosen by the reader's grants, and on a pending request of a flow that does not lock the record it would put values the submitter never submitted in front of the approver. B keeps one face, one row, named.
    • ② Measured business pull. Found in the 18.3.0 release-candidate walkthrough (W3-UX), reproduced on the stock showcase; every reader of a decided request today. The reporter's own expectation, 「the page tells one story」, is met once each face says which row it reads; the reporter asked for the current state because nothing told them the upper card was the submission.
    • ③ AI-error prevention. A's refusal fallback is the consumer-side tolerance Prime Directive 12 forbids: a renderer silently switching between the live row and the snapshot, with a test owed on each branch and a fallback the face must hide or explain. B adds no read path and no branch; its one failure (a pack missing the key) is loud in the ten-pack pin.
    • ④ Startup no-sprawl. B is one heading, one key in ten packs, four pins: S. A is a second permission-checked read on every request page, refusal handling and its own copy: M, for a value the Details card already shows.

Only-① pick: B. Do ②③④ flip it: no. Effort for the chosen letter: S, one PR, on the card thread's branch.

Prior rulings read: "approval payload snapshot audit evidence serve-time redaction" → #10749 5377367175, 5393514787; "approval decision panel snapshot summary what was submitted" → objectui#12483 / objectui PR #12533 (comments NOT MEASURED, code read); #25469 (closed: the sign-off outcome not written back, a different defect); thread: 6495277179, 6499632812, 6499712026

    Execution after the ruling

    • The card stays pm:dispatched on domain:ui#4; the card thread resumes on its branch claude/project-thread-rqapja with Ruling-ref: <this comment id>. ⛔ No new claim, no assignee write. The seat records the ruling on the card (body first line Ruled: <this comment id> · letter B · <UTC>) if the review thread's write of it fails.
    • One PR, S, domain:ui owns it. File surface as dispatched: ui/packages/app-shell/src/views/approval-decision/**, the ten packs under ui/packages/i18n/src/locales/, tests beside, root changeset (@object-ui/app-shell patch, @object-ui/i18n patch). Clause-②: no. Metadata-protocol: none. Effort high as dispatched; no contract-review tier (no published contract moves). Review routing per the project's standing PR rule.
    • Serial constraint stands: draft PR fix(spec): a count roll-up saves without summaryOperations.field #27533 edits snapshotSummaryPlan.ts (one line, the sum.field guard); this PR edits RecordSnapshotSummary.tsx and the panel, not the plan. Whoever lands second resolves.
    • The ×3 card (item 7) is filed by the seat, not dispatched by this ruling.
    • Not reopened: the serve-time redaction seam, the strip's field list, the Details tab's pointer card, the invalidation path after a decision.

Additive; nothing narrows. Lane precedent: #25908, #27480 (claim amended 13:45Z). Ruling 6499914328 wrote Clause-②: no; this corrects the declaration only, the ruled route (B) is unchanged. The seat records a TIER_DEFAULT contract review on the final head before landing; the card stays in domain:ui.

    Ruling confirmed: proxy ruling 6499914328 · letter B · maintainer 「同意」 2026-10-30T01:38Z

The maintainer confirmed the review thread's ruling of record on this card verbatim, 「同意」, in the project thread 「决定审批页摘要卡数据来源」 (2026-10-30T01:37Z). Letter B stands as written in 6499914328, with its execution parameters unchanged: the decision panel keeps the submitted snapshot under the heading approvalsInbox.snapshotAsSubmitted (en As submitted, zh 提交时的内容, ten packs), pinned in the decided, pending and empty states; no live read of the target from the panel; the ×3 count is the domain:ui seat's separate S card. Marker: auto-adjudicated → maintainer-confirmed.
