Welcome!

Welcome to the OpenID iGov Working Group (WG) repository! This space is dedicated to the collaborative efforts of the iGov WG, a specialized group within the OpenID Foundation focused on enabling secure, interoperable, and privacy-preserving identity solutions for government and public sector use cases.

What is the iGov WG?

The iGov Working Group was established to address the unique requirements of identity systems in government and intergovernmental contexts. Governments and public sector organizations often face challenges such as stringent security standards, regulatory compliance, cross-border interoperability, and the need to protect citizen privacy. The iGov WG aims to extend and adapt OpenID standards to meet these challenges, ensuring that identity solutions are robust, scalable, and capable of supporting the diverse needs of public sector stakeholders.

"So What?"

The work of the iGov WG is critical for enabling trust and collaboration in the digital age. By developing specifications and guidelines tailored to government use cases, the group helps ensure that identity systems are secure, interoperable, and privacy-respecting. This work empowers governments to provide better services to citizens, facilitates international cooperation, and supports the adoption of open standards that reduce vendor lock-in and promote innovation.
