Set a default worker filename for existing openDocument consumers.
When a consumer calls the exported openDocument helper with only { origin }, workerFile is undefined. The helper then sets PDF.js workerSrc to ${origin}/pdfjs/undefined, while the asset server serves pdf.worker.mjs. PDF.js can therefore fail to initialize its worker. Preserve the existing call shape by defaulting workerFile to pdf.worker.mjs.

Align the package engine with the PDF renderer.
pdfjs-dist@4.2.67 requires Node >=18, but @percy/cli-pdf advertises Node >=14. If the optional dependency is skipped on Node 14–17, pdfjsAssets() throws and core returns HTTP 501. PDF rendering is therefore unavailable for supported runtimes.
Raise the engine requirement for this PDF.js v4 implementation:
Suggested fix
"engines": {
- "node": ">=14"
+ "node": ">=18"
},If Node 14–17 support is required, use a PDF.js release compatible with those runtimes and its matching asset layout instead.

Just linking the two but this would resolve #2438 if it gets merged. |
v4 dropped the UMD bundles -- `legacy/build` now ships only `pdf.mjs` /
`pdf.worker.mjs`. The rasterizer used to read `legacy/build/pdf.js` off disk
and evaluate it with `new Function`, which an ES module cannot be, and the
in-page scripts then looked for the `window['pdfjs-dist/build/pdf']` global the
UMD wrapper installed. Both are gone in v4, so:
- assets.js points at the .mjs files and exposes `libFile` alongside
`workerFile`, since both are now fetched over the asset server
- a new `loadLibrary` page script imports the library as a module from that
server and parks the namespace on `window.pdfjsLib`
- `openDocument` reads that global and takes `workerFile`, so the worker URL is
no longer a hardcoded `pdf.worker.js`
pdf.js v4 creates its worker with `{ type: 'module' }` itself, and the worker is
same-origin with the asset server, so no wrapper is needed on our side.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
pdfjs-dist v4 declares `engines.node >= 20` (>=18 as of 4.2.67) while CI pins Node 14, and yarn treats an engine mismatch as a hard install error -- every job died in `yarn` before reaching a build. Same shape as snyk-nodejs-lockfile-parser in cli-command, so the same treatment: - pdfjs-dist moves to optionalDependencies, so yarn skips it on Node 14 with a warning instead of failing the install - the resolve in pdfjsAssets was already deferred to call time; it now throws a tagged PDFJS_UNAVAILABLE naming the Node requirement - loadPdfModule resolves the assets up front, turning a skipped install into a 501 with an actionable message rather than a 500 three frames into the rasterizer, after a browser launch - the pdfjs-backed specs are gated behind describePdfjs/itPdfjs, mirroring describeSnyk, and the paths they cover are exempted from the 100% gate since the coverage run is the Node 14 one Node only resolves pdfjs-dist's path and serves its files -- nothing imports it outside the page -- so the >=18 constraint never binds at runtime for us. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Three specs post a PDF and expect the CLI to answer success, which now needs the optional renderer: without it the endpoint answers 501, and they failed on both the Node 14 and Windows runs. Same describePdfjs/itPdfjs treatment as the cli-pdf and core suites. The gated 'accepts URL parameters' spec was the only cover for the params branch of postPdfSnapshot's query builder, so an equivalent runs unconditionally against the stubbed error route -- the query still gets asserted where pdfjs-dist was never installed. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Three things the last run surfaced: - sdk-utils' specs compile to CommonJS -- it is the one package without "type": "module" -- so `createRequire(import.meta.url)` was a SyntaxError there. Keyed on the Node major instead, the way lockfileDiff.test.js gates its snyk specs. The sibling suites keep the resolve-based check; their packages are ESM. - The Track P regression runner rasterizes for real and died on the missing renderer. It now skips with a message naming the Node requirement instead of failing the job. - Narrowed the coverage exemption in pdf-rasterize.js from the whole file to the three pdfjs-backed functions: withTimeout is covered by test/unit/pdf-rasterize.test.js on any Node, and a file-level ignore was quietly dropping it from the gate. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
… specs process.versions is undefined in the browser, and these specs run in Chrome and Firefox as well as Node (karma globs test/**/*.test.js), so the Node-major gate threw there. There is no environment probe that works: the browser cannot see the Node version of the server answering it. Dropped the gate. What this package is responsible for is the request it sends, which is the same with or without a renderer, so that is asserted unconditionally; the CLI's `success: true` body is only asserted when a renderer actually answered. The separate stubbed-route spec added for the params branch is gone again -- 'accepts URL parameters' covers it everywhere now. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Bumps
pdfjs-distin@percy/cli-pdffrom^2.16.105to^4.2.67, plus the code changes v4 forces.Why the diff isn't one line
pdfjs-dist v4 is ESM only.
legacy/build/no longer shipspdf.js/pdf.worker.js— onlypdf.mjs/pdf.worker.mjs. Two things in the rasterizer depended on the old UMD bundle:pdf-rasterize.jsreadassets.libPathoff disk and injected it withnew Function(source). An ES module can't be evaluated that way.browser-scripts.jsthen picked the library up fromwindow['pdfjs-dist/build/pdf'], a global only the UMD wrapper installed.So the bump alone left PDF rasterization broken (and 2 red specs in
cli-pdf).Changes
cli-pdf/src/assets.js— points at the.mjsbuild, exposeslibFilenext toworkerFile(both are now served over the asset server rather than read off disk).cli-pdf/src/browser-scripts.js— newloadLibrarypage script appends an inline<script type="module">that imports the library from/pdfjs/pdf.mjsand parks the namespace onwindow.pdfjsLib;openDocumentreads that global and takesworkerFileinstead of hardcodingpdf.worker.js.core/src/pdf-rasterize.js— callsloadLibraryin place of thenew Functioninjection (and drops the now-unusedfsimport).loadLibrary(success, load failure, already-loaded no-op).pdf.js v4 constructs its own worker with
{ type: 'module' }, and the worker is same-origin with the loopback asset server, so nothing extra is needed on our side. The discovery browser is Chrome 143, well past v4's baseline.Testing
packages/cli-pdf: 46/46 specs pass.packages/corepdf-snapshot.test.js(real Chrome, real rasterization): 40/40 specs pass.Note for the reviewer
^4.2.67resolves to 4.10.38 inyarn.lock— that's what the caret gives and what was verified above. Say the word if you'd rather pin4.2.67exactly.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
