Inline comments:
Review comments at @src/Header/Accept.php:
- Around line 63-78: Extract the nested effective-preference lookup from
getBestMatch into a private static findEffectivePreference helper, accepting the
preferences and supported media type and returning the most specific matching
preference or null. Replace the inline loop with this helper call while
preserving the existing matching and specificity behavior.
- Around line 93-95: Replace the quote-aware preg_split used by getBestMatch
with a single-pass splitter, adding the private static splitRanges method to
track quoted and escaped characters and split only on commas outside quotes.
Iterate over splitRanges($header) and preserve each range’s original content.
Review comments at @src/Header/ContentEncoding.php:
- Line 131: Update the ContentEncoding parsing pattern to allow optional
whitespace between the encoding name and its quality-parameter semicolon, so
headers such as “gzip ;q=0” parse the exclusion correctly; add a regression test
covering isSupported(ContentEncoding::Gzip, 'gzip ;q=0') returning false.
Review comments at @tests/Header/AcceptTest.php:
- Around line 72-84: Add focused provider cases for invalid and padded q-values
in the Accept test data: cover q=2 and q=abc as skipped ranges, and verify
whitespace around the media type and q parameter name using competing qualities
so Q=0.5 is genuinely parsed. Anchor the additions in the existing Accept test
provider near the “empty header” case.
Review comments at @tests/Header/AuthorizationTest.php:
- Around line 142-143: Extend the variant list in the test loop around testParse
to include explicit internally mixed-case Basic and Bearer scheme tokens, such
as bAsIc and bEaReR, while preserving the existing lowercase, uppercase,
title-case variants and credential assertions.

Evidence and validation
RFC 9110: Accept, Accept-Encoding, authentication schemes.
Regression tests failed before the implementation (including exclusions, specificity, nullable absence and scheme capitalization), then passed: 142 header tests / 259 assertions on PHP 8.4.26, PHPUnit 12.5.38 with an isolated source bootstrap. Eight existing mock-related PHPUnit notices remain. PHP lint, diff whitespace checks and composer validate --strict passed.
Full development-tool suite is not claimed: dependencies are incomplete in this cloud environment and the previously blocked dependency download was not retried. A broader source-based suite has a known missing Symfony Process dependency in ConsumerSkillTest. PHP 8.3 was not executed locally. Existing PHP 8.3-compatible ASCII token/OWS helpers and released 1.5.1 changes are preserved.
For maintainer review; no merge or release.
GitHub-hosted CI follow-up
The test workflow completed successfully on PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5. The PHP 8.3 job log confirms 218 tests / 389 assertions (8 existing PHPUnit notices), with the PHPUnit execution step successful (not merely a published status). Changelog, Reports and Wiki PR workflows also completed successfully. Local dependency limitations above do not describe the hosted runner. Published sources were read back and match the locally tested files byte-for-byte.
Review corrections
Head
1324f09907fbc1b322453f319ba2e9093d7bc87dincludes the escaped-quote scanner fix, Accept-Encoding OWS exclusion fix, extracted specificity lookup and additional invalid-quality/internal-mixed-case tests. Local focused headers: 149 tests / 292 assertions. Latest hosted tests succeeded on PHP 8.3/8.4/8.5; Changelog/Reports/Wiki also succeeded. Codex code review completed on this head without new findings; all prior inline findings are addressed and resolved (CodeRabbit confirmed its findings). The automated Codex security review also completed on this head without findings. CodeRabbit's new full-review round is rate-limited, not a fresh approval.
