Display and Resolution Model
The 0.9.2 renderer separates the logical iDotMatrix screen profile from the physical WLED matrix.
| Screen type | Logical resolution |
|---|---|
0x01 |
16x16 |
0x03 |
32x32 |
0x04 |
64x64 |
The logical profile defines protocol coordinates, app-visible capabilities, TEXT sizes and media dimensions.
WLED remains responsible for the real LED/panel topology. The Usermod publishes a logical framebuffer to WLED's normal 2D pixel model.
For supported 16/32/64 combinations:
- upscaling uses nearest-neighbour replication;
- downscaling uses box averaging.
Examples on a 64x64 physical panel:
- logical 64x64 -> native 1:1;
- logical 32x32 -> 2x upscale;
- logical 16x16 -> 4x upscale.
On dedicated Waveshare and MatrixPortal S3 HUB75 profiles, this output scaling is automatic and the historical low-memory Rescale checkbox is hidden/forced off. That legacy setting is retained only on selected classic low-memory profiles where storing a large logical source directly at a smaller physical canvas materially reduces RAM use.
The physical 32x32 path is not yet a release qualification blocker; logical 32x32 behavior has been exercised through the 64x64 hardware/scaler.
Some 0.9.2 content uses native higher-resolution composition instead of merely scaling 16x16 artwork. Examples include:
- combined time/date Clock layouts on 64x64;
- TEXT 16/32/64 rendering;
- static multi-row TEXT pages;
- resolution-specific punctuation alignment in Clock and timers.
