Summary

Everything on v2 that isn't on main yet: 20 commits.

New component

  • Iso Lattice: a lattice of isometric tiles that lights up solid figures (cube, steps, pillars, coil) and builds each one over the last from the floor up. React and Svelte, with docs, demo and OG card.
  • Tiles now stay inside the figure's outline; no half-lit column poking out past the edges.

Ring Tower

  • rings is capped at 5 (default 5; the stage shows about 3).
  • rings also takes an array, one object per ring from the bottom up, to set that ring's rotation, tilt, spin, speed, parallax or images. Anything left out follows the tower.
  • The demo has a ring picker with per-ring sliders.

Docs

  • Component pages put the live preview on a full-height stage with the props panel beside it.
  • New sidebar: the open page is a sheet-tone chip that slides between rows. Section headings are quieter, rows are tighter, the open row scrolls into view, and the footer is a single row.
  • New Experiments section, holding Phosphor Score and Typewriter. URLs are unchanged.
  • Folio: the page now scrolls on once the sheet reaches its end, instead of trapping the wheel.

Theme fixes from earlier on the branch: ASCII Logo rebuild, Live Orb, Radiant Lines and Gooey Color Picker follow light and dark mode.

Added since this PR opened

  • Sidebar: the toggle sits at the right of the header, which now lines up with the top of the stage.
  • Collapsing: the sidebar folds away entirely, with a floating toggle in the stage's corner instead of an empty rail.
  • Open/close animation: the sidebar's width eases. The live preview holds one width, centred, and is resized once, when the slide lands.
  • Props panel: scrolling over it now carries on to the page.
  • Canvas components: all 13 redraw inside their resize handler, so a resize never shows a blank frame. This applies to window resizes too. Phosphor Score also no longer starts a second animation loop when the pixel ratio changes.

Testing

  • pnpm test: 255 pass. tsc --noEmit and eslint are clean. pnpm registry:build succeeds.
  • Checked in headless Chrome, dark and light:
    • Iso Lattice edges.
    • Ring Tower per-ring tilt and rotation.
    • The sidebar chip sliding down without covering text.
    • The mobile menu.
    • Folio wheel chaining: the sheet reached its end at 2887px, then the page scrolled on to 2194px.

main has one commit not on v2 (README image); it merges cleanly.

A lattice of isometric diamond tiles lights up solid figures standing on
a faint floor grid: a cube, a staircase, a bar chart and a coil. Every
few seconds the next figure builds over the last from the floor up, with
a bright front where the tiles turn over. Lit faces close into solid
tiles and shaded ones break into grain, a level glint rises through the
figure, and the pointer lights the bare lattice like a lamp.

Each figure is drawn once into a mask that every cell samples, so tile
sizes hold still and only the light moves. Amber in dark, burnt orange
in light, transparent over the page. Holds the first figure under
reduced motion, pauses off-screen, and recovers a lost WebGL context.
Ships for React and Svelte with a docs page, demo, OG card and skill
entry.

A cell counted as lit when its centre landed on the figure, so the
column straddling each vertical edge drew whole diamonds past the
outline at half strength, with a stray tile at each side corner. Now a
cell lights only when all four tips of a full-size tile land on the
figure, so edges end on a clean column of whole tiles.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
`rings` now runs 1 to 5, default 5; the stage shows about three. It also
takes an array, one object per ring from the bottom up, setting that
ring's rotation, tilt, spin, crawl speed, parallax or images. Anything
left out follows the tower, so `{}` is a plain ring. Rings that share an
image list share one strip, and poses are read live, so sliders never
rebuild the bands. The loop now rests when nothing moves.

The demo gains a ring picker with sliders for the picked ring, and the
docs a table of ring fields.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
On a component page the live preview now fills a stage at the top of the
docs, edge to edge, with the controls in a panel beside it from `xl` and
below it on narrower screens, so props can be tuned while watching. The
page follows on a sheet underneath with the outline alongside. Demos
size themselves with `--preview-h`, the `## Preview` headings go, and
the copied JSX prints object props as object literals.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The playful pieces get their own group at the end of the sidebar and on
the getting-started Browse table, so the main sections stay about
building blocks. URLs are unchanged. Ring Tower also joins the
Background row of the Browse table, where it was missing.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The open page's row is now a scrap of the sheet the page sits on, the
same surface and hairline edge, so the row and the panel beside it read
as one thing. It slides between rows on a spring that settles without
overshoot, under the row text and headings so nothing it passes is
hidden, and hover shows a fainter one. This replaces the triad marker
that flew along an arc and pushed the label aside.

Section headings are sentence case in ink rather than tracked mono caps,
rows are tighter, the list scrolls the open row into view and fades
under the footer. The pinned footer is one row; the fine print scrolls
with the list. The unused Triad component goes.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
`overscroll-contain` on Folio's scroller kept the wheel from ever
chaining to the page, so with the docs stage filling the screen the page
could not scroll while the pointer was over it. Scroll now chains as
usual at either end of the sheet.

Enabling reduced motion during the Ascii Logo assembly animation can leave glyphs stuck off stage. Moving a window between displays with different pixel ratios can also leave the canvas blurry. Fix these before merging; the other items are minor edge cases.

Cloudflare preview is ready.

Preview https://pr-47-23rd-dev.radiumcoders.workers.dev
This commit https://1dacb137-23rd-dev.radiumcoders.workers.dev

Production (23rd.dev) is unchanged. This preview URL stays the same as you push to this PR.

`overscroll-contain` on the panel kept the wheel from chaining to the
page, and below `xl`, where the panel is `overflow-hidden` and never
scrolls itself, it swallowed the wheel outright. The panel now scrolls
its own props first and hands the rest to the page.

The toggle and wordmark sat 20px down while the stage and the sheet
start 12px down, so the two tops never met. Both the header and the
collapsed rail's toggle now sit in the same 12px gutter as the panels.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…rdmark.

The wordmark leads on the left and the toggle sits at the right edge,
flush with the search field below it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Collapsed, the sidebar left a 56px rail holding only its toggle. Now it
folds away entirely and a frosted toggle floats over the corner of the
page, so the stage takes the full width.

Folding slides the sidebar out while the page glides back into the
space, and opening slides it in while the page moves aside. The width
still never eases, which would resize the live preview every frame:
closing snaps the width first and slides the page back by transform,
opening slides the page aside first and snaps the width as it lands, so
the preview is resized once, mid-move. Instant under reduced motion and
on mobile, where the sheet takes over.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

The ResizeObserver guard ignores a DPR-only change.

The guard compares only clientWidth and clientHeight. On a DPR-only change, the observer skips the rebuild. tick also skips it, because gridKey does not include dpr. As a result, sizeCanvas does not resize the backing store. After the window moves to a monitor with a different devicePixelRatio, the canvas renders blurry or at the wrong scale until the next real size or option change. Before this change, the observer invalidated lastKey on every callback. Even so, a DPR change does not always fire a ResizeObserver callback. For that reason, call sizeCanvas() every frame in tick, or include the DPR in the guard.

Proposed fix
   const tick = (now: number) => {
     if (!running) return
+    sizeCanvas()
     const dt = Math.min((now - last) / 1000, 0.05)

…t lands.

The transform slide snapped the page's width at one end of the move, so
the stage and props panel jumped 240px, and the panel's own toggle
lingered on screen as its `transition-all` outlived the hidden panel.
Now the aside's width eases and the panel rides its right edge, so the
page reflows smoothly beside it. The live preview inside the stage is
held at one width, centred and clipped, and released when the width
transition ends, so the component is resized once rather than every
frame. The floating toggle fades in once the sidebar has left.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Resizing a canvas clears it, and the engines only drew again on the next
animation frame, so every resize (a window resize, a layout change, the
docs sidebar landing) showed the canvas blank for a frame. Each engine
now sizes its canvas only when the backing size really changes, since
even the same size clears it, and on a change draws in place from the
ResizeObserver callback, before paint, without advancing time or
starting a second loop. Stretchy Footer already drew straight after
sizing.

Phosphor Score also stops starting a second loop when the pixel ratio
changes mid-frame.

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Stop the render loop when all effective ring speeds are zero. If every ring sets speed: 0 and spin: 0, the default towerSpeed still schedules frames continuously. The renderer redraws an unchanged scene until it is destroyed.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Rebuild glyph cells when the pixel ratio changes.

If a window moves to a display with a different device-pixel ratio, resize() updates dpr and the canvas backing store. The CSS dimensions can remain unchanged, so this condition skips rebuild(false). The 404 then keeps glyph cells rasterized at the old ratio until another option or CSS-size change. Track the previous dpr and rebuild when it changes. Track the previous device-pixel ratio alongside the previous dimensions and
update the rebuild condition so `resize()` triggers `rebuild(false)` when `dpr`
changes, even if `w` and `h` are unchanged. Apply the same correction to the

Review comments at @public/r/ascii-logo.json:
- Line 9: In the tick logic, reduced motion can leave glyphs with a positive
wait stranded off stage because the wait check runs before the reduced-motion
reset. In public/r/ascii-logo.json, line 9, update tick to reset waiting glyphs
before checking their wait and ensure the returning phase completes; apply the
same correction in public/r/ascii-logo-svelte.json, line 9.

Review comments at @public/r/iso-lattice.json:
- Line 9: Update the shapesOf filter in both public/r/iso-lattice.json at line 9
and public/r/iso-lattice-svelte.json at line 9 to accept only string entries
that are own keys of DRAW; avoid inherited names and ensure null entries do not
throw.

Review comments at @registry/iso-lattice/iso-lattice-vanilla.ts:
- Line 687: Move the canvas.style.width and canvas.style.height assignments
before the canvas.width/canvas.height equality check in the resize flow, so the
display size is updated even when the backing dimensions already match; preserve
the existing early return for unchanged backing dimensions.

Reset waiting glyphs when reduced motion starts. During assembly, reduced motion makes tick pass zero frames. The wait check then runs before the reduced-motion reset, so waiting glyphs remain off stage indefinitely.

  • public/r/ascii-logo.json#L9-L9: reset waiting glyphs before the wait check and complete the returning phase.
  • public/r/ascii-logo-svelte.json#L9-L9: apply the same correction to the Svelte registry copy.

Review comment at @public/r/ascii-logo.json at line 9:
In the tick logic, reduced motion can leave glyphs with a positive wait stranded
off stage because the wait check runs before the reduced-motion reset. In
public/r/ascii-logo.json, line 9, update tick to reset waiting glyphs before
checking their wait and ensure the returning phase completes; apply the same
correction in public/r/ascii-logo-svelte.json, line 9.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Validate shapes entries before accepting them. Both shapesOf implementations use s in DRAW. A null entry throws, while an inherited name such as "toString" passes without naming a figure. Filter for strings that are own keys of DRAW in both copies.

  • public/r/iso-lattice.json#L9-L9: correct the React registry copy’s shapesOf filter.
  • public/r/iso-lattice-svelte.json#L9-L9: correct the Svelte registry copy’s shapesOf filter.

Update the shapesOf filter in both public/r/iso-lattice.json at line 9 and
public/r/iso-lattice-svelte.json at line 9 to accept only string entries that
are own keys of DRAW; avoid inherited names and ensure null entries do not
throw.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Set the canvas display size before the backing-size check.

If a bare canvas starts in a 150×75 CSS-pixel parent at device-pixel ratio 2, its calculated backing size equals the default 300×150. This return skips the CSS size assignments, so the canvas displays at twice the parent’s size. Set canvas.style.width and canvas.style.height before this check.

Review comment at @registry/iso-lattice/iso-lattice-vanilla.ts at line 687:
Move the canvas.style.width and canvas.style.height assignments before the
canvas.width/canvas.height equality check in the resize flow, so the display
size is updated even when the backing dimensions already match; preserve the
existing early return for unchanged backing dimensions.
