The empty state offers three flat tiles over the light backdrop: Open a photo, Blank canvas, and Sample photo, with "Or drop an image anywhere" under them. Blank canvas turns the tiles into four sizes, Portrait, Square, Landscape (a 12 MP 4:3), and Widescreen, through a view transition: each tile's box morphs into the one that takes its place while their contents swap, and Back or Escape returns. Choosing a size opens a white SVG of that size through the same loader as any image, so drafts, scene files, and export keep it like a photo. Sample photo opens the bundled photo that /demo already shows. A failed open shows its error above the same tiles. Narrow containers stack the tiles as rows, and reduced motion swaps them at once.

Verification

• bun run check, bun run build, and 68 Bun tests pass.
• New start.e2e.ts: Blank canvas, then Square, opens Untitled at 3000 × 3000 and exports white; Sample photo opens demo.jpg at 1400 × 764. A Portrait canvas with an edit comes back whole from a draft and from a scene file.
• The browser workflows that start from the empty state pass: loaders, draft, scene file, layout, and start.
• Checked at 1440×900, 1024×768, 390×844, and 375×667: both views, the error state, focus moving to the first size and back to Blank canvas, and Escape. The transition's animations, read from the browser, move each box over 300 ms on the assistant card's easing and swap contents without overlap. The demo was recorded under SwiftShader at quarter speed and plays back 4× faster, so the backdrop drifts faster than it does in the app.
