I study the path from scientific evidence to clinical judgment: how physiological mechanisms and population-level causal knowledge can be represented computationally, then used to support transparent reasoning about individual patients.
My current open research program has three connected layers:
- Physiolog — a muscle-centered clinical physiology textbook and interactive learning platform that establishes the mechanistic foundation.
- Models4PT — an experimental platform for curating computable causal knowledge while preserving evidence, uncertainty, provenance, disagreement, and human scientific review.
- Clinical Inference Engine — a research initiative exploring patient-specific causal models, Bayesian inference, and inspectable explanations.
The aim is to make the knowledge, assumptions, uncertainty, and inferential steps supporting judgment more explicit.
I bring more than 30 years of experience in physical therapy education and more than 25 years of clinical and quantitative research spanning cardiovascular outcomes, physiological measurement, heart rate variability, epidemiology, causal analysis, evidence synthesis, and research design. I founded Plymouth State University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program and teach clinical physiology and a three-course clinical inquiry sequence.
