dotfile pull improvement on file saving #91

Closed

Description

@AnnatarHe

Please improve the file-saving aspect of the dotfiles pull command.

The entry for the dotfiles pull command is located in commands/dotfiles_pull.go#L14, while the file-saving functionality can be found in main/model/dotfile_apps.go#L211.

In the file-saving section, you don't need to call the IsEqual check first, as it will be guarded before the save method is invoked.

Additionally, in the file-saving part, you should check the differences first using https://github.com/sergi/go-diff and only apply the changes to the current file.

✅ Dotfiles pull file-saving improvements completed

I have successfully implemented the requested improvements to the dotfiles pull command's file-saving functionality.

    Tasks completed:

    • Analyze current implementation in commands/dotfiles_pull.go and model/dotfile_apps.go
    • Check if github.com/sergi/go-diff is already a dependency
    • Remove unnecessary IsEqual check before save method
    • Implement difference checking using go-diff
    • Modify logic to only save files when there are actual differences
    • Test the changes by building the project
    • Commit and push changes

    Implementation Summary:

    ✨ Key improvements made:

    1. Added go-diff dependency: Added github.com/sergi/go-diff to the project's dependencies
    2. Removed redundant check: The Save method in model/dotfile_apps.go:212 no longer performs a redundant IsEqual check, as this is already handled by the calling code in dotfiles_pull.go:139
    3. Better difference detection: Implemented proper difference checking using github.com/sergi/go-diff/diffmatchpatch to detect actual content changes before saving
    4. Optimized file operations: Files are only written when there are real content differences, improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary file I/O

    Technical Details:

    • The new Save method uses diffmatchpatch.New().DiffMain() to compare existing and new content
    • When diffs contain only DiffEqual (no changes), file saving is skipped
    • Proper error handling for file read operations while maintaining backward compatibility
    • Preserved existing logging behavior with more efficient execution path
