🔌 Plugin overview

  • Plugin name: DigitalOcean
  • Purpose / problem solved: Brings a DigitalOcean estate into SquaredUp. It imports Droplets, App Platform apps, Kubernetes (DOKS) clusters, managed databases, load balancers, VPCs, projects, Gradient AI agents and Harness Runtime environments, sessions and triggers, and relates them to each other (worker node to cluster, resources to their VPC and project, load balancer to backend Droplet, session to environment). Data streams cover Droplet, app and load balancer metrics, app health and deployments, Kubernetes nodes, agent token usage, billing (balance, invoices and daily cost), and agent observability from DigitalOcean Signals: conversations per environment, and each session's turns, tool calls, token usage and detected behavioral signals such as execution failures and tool loops.
  • Primary audience (e.g. platform teams, SREs, product teams): Platform and SRE teams running workloads on DigitalOcean, and anyone keeping an eye on DigitalOcean spend.
  • Authentication method(s) (e.g. OAuth, Username/Password, API Key): DigitalOcean personal access token (Bearer), read scopes only.

🧪 Test plan

I tested this against a live DigitalOcean account (2 Droplets including a DOKS worker node, an App Platform app, a DOKS cluster, a Postgres cluster, a load balancer, 4 VPCs, 2 projects, and a Harness Runtime environment with a Codex CLI session and Signals collection switched on) in a US SquaredUp organization.

  • Auth and validation: added the data source with a read-scoped token; the config validation step (account lookup) passed.
  • Import: all import steps succeed on a fresh data source and land every object type. The dependent projectResources step only succeeds from the second import (see Known limitations).
  • Correlation: squaredup correlate-status shows all 6 rules installed and succeeded, and squaredup edges lists the expected 13 edges (worker node to cluster, 5 resources to their VPC, 5 resources to their project, load balancer to Droplet, session to environment). The trigger rule ran with nothing to relate, as there are no triggers.
  • Data streams: every stream was run with squaredup test against real objects. Droplet Metrics was checked across two Droplets (different host IDs, different values) and every metric option. Billing streams were checked against real balance, invoice and daily cost data. The Signals streams were checked against a real session (2 turns, 6 tool calls with 2 failures, 3 detected signals).
  • Dashboards: all dashboards render with data in the product (screenshots above). Every SmartViz spec was validated against real column names.
  • Not tested with real data: Agent Usage (no Gradient AI agents in the account), Evaluation Test Cases (empty list), and Trigger Executions and the Trigger dashboard (no triggers).

⚠️ Known limitations

  • Agent latency, time to first token, request counts, runtime logs and traces are only in the DigitalOcean control panel. The public API exposes agent token usage and evaluations, which is what the plugin covers.
  • Database metrics aren't included, because DigitalOcean Monitoring only offers them for MySQL.
  • Droplet memory, disk and load need the DigitalOcean metrics agent on the Droplet. Bandwidth has no stated unit, so it's a plain number.
  • Cost is capped at 31 days per request by the billing insights API. Balance has no stated currency, so it's a plain number (invoices and cost are USD).
  • Harness Runtime lists (environments, sessions, triggers, executions) stop at the first 200 items. The API returns an empty next_page_token on the last page, and token paging treats that as another page, so these streams fetch a single page.
  • Signals data only appears for environments with Signals collection switched on.
  • A load balancer links to its first backend Droplet only, because correlation matches single values.
  • Project memberships are a dependent import step, so on a new data source they (and the project relationships) appear from the second import onwards. This is a platform issue with dependsOn and I've raised it separately.
  • Follow-up ideas: Uptime checks and firing alerts from DigitalOcean Insights.

Imports VPCs and projects (with a Project Resource join object per
assigned resource) and adds correlation rules linking worker Droplets
to their Kubernetes cluster, resources to their VPC and project, and
load balancers to their first backend Droplet. Inventory streams gain
optional Project/VPC filters, and the dashboards move into Projects,
Managed Agents, Data & Learning and Core Cloud folders with new
Project, Database and VPC perspectives.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 20708

The plugin has several small data-shape and setup-documentation fixes to make. Its account identity also depends on a field DigitalOcean marks optional, although no affected account has been confirmed. Address the localized fixes and confirm that account assumption before merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 20708

The integration adds access to potentially sensitive team-wide inventory, billing, and agent activity. Initial requests use a fixed HTTPS destination, and the inspected flows read rather than modify resources. No concrete security weakness was established, but credential handling during pagination and downstream data-access controls could not be fully verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The intended data-access scope is the team and API permissions associated with the configured token, potentially spanning resource inventory, billing, and agent activity. The environment picker narrows displayed session results, not the preceding account-wide API request, and should not be treated as an authorization boundary.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The script routed as a public entrypoint only normalizes and filters supplied session data. Its complete body contains no network dispatch, dynamic code execution, tool invocation, or remote session-state operation; the public-entrypoint label alone does not establish an attack path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Initial credential-bearing requests are configured for a fixed HTTPS API origin. Invoice pagination delegates subsequent URL selection to links.pages.next in the response. Whether the shared request engine constrains those URLs and safely handles credentials across redirects or origins remains unverified; attacker influence over those values was not established.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Successful setup is evidence of account-endpoint access, not complete monitoring coverage. The documented per-tile failures preserve a distinction between authentication success and authorization to each data category; they do not demonstrate a security-control bypass.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Establish an explicit request-engine contract for same-origin pagination and credential handling across redirects before relying on response-provided URLs for bearer-authenticated integrations. This is assurance work, not a verified credential-disclosure finding.

plugins/DigitalOcean/v1/defaultContent/Core Cloud/kubernetesCluster.dash.json:228-276
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Use the selected cluster’s nodePools property for the Node Pools tile.

kubernetesNodes.js emits rows only for entries in pool.nodes. A cluster with an empty node pool therefore emits no poolName for that pool, while kubernetesClusters.js still counts it in nodePools. The tile can undercount reachable clusters.

The Node Pools tile counted distinct pool names in the node stream, so
a pool scaled to zero nodes was missed. It now reads the cluster's

Outside-diff item (Node Pools tile in kubernetesCluster.dash.json): done in 230c95f. The tile now reads the cluster's imported nodePools property, so a pool scaled to zero nodes is counted.

Imports Harness Runtime environments, agent sessions and triggers, and
adds streams for trigger executions and for Signals: conversations per
environment, and each session's turns (tool calls, token usage) and
detected behavioral signals. Adds Managed Agents dashboards for them,
swaps the Overview's Gradient agent tiles for agent sessions, and
refreshes the screenshots now that cost data is available.

The base URL moves to the API host root, with each stream adding its
v2/ or v1/ prefix, because Signals is served under /v1.

Preserve warnings as an array.

The list-values requirement applies to this field. The producer currently joins the warning list into a string, and the metadata declares the result as a string. The Harness Overview text renderer does not define an exception to this requirement.

Declare signalLabels as an array column.

scripts/sessionDialogues.js joins the deduplicated labels into one ", "-separated string, but the column declares "shape": "string". Repository guidance requires a column that holds several values to use "shape": ["array", { "itemShape": "<shape>" }], not a comma-joined string. Return the labels as an array and update the metadata to match.

Update the signalLabels generation in the session dialogues script to return the
deduplicated labels as an array, and change the signalLabels metadata shape to
an array of strings. Verify the existing tag-list renderer displays the array

Fix the duplicated word in the description.

"Behavioral signals Signals detected" reads as a typo. Name the Signals product once, in a normal sentence. Keep the description to one sentence with no full stop. Use brackets for the clarification.

1. Sign in to the [DigitalOcean Control Panel](https://cloud.digitalocean.com).
2. Go to **API → Tokens** ([cloud.digitalocean.com/account/api/tokens](https://cloud.digitalocean.com/account/api/tokens)) and click **Generate New Token**.
3. Give the token a name (e.g. `SquaredUp`) and choose an **Expiration**. When the token expires, the plugin stops returning data until you supply a new one.
4. Under **Scopes**, choose **Custom Scopes** and grant **read** on: `account`, `droplet`, `app`, `kubernetes`, `database`, `load_balancer`, `monitoring`, `billing`, `genai`, `vpc`, `project`, `agent_harness_session` and `signals`. A **Read Only** token also works. See [token scopes](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api/scopes/) for details.

<title>How to Use Signals with Serverless Inference | DigitalOcean Documentation</title>
<location>https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/inference/how-to/use-signals-with-serverless-inference/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn1view2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: today; Content type: text/html; Source: open({&quot;ref_id&quot;:&quot;turn0search3&quot;,&quot;lineno&quot;:null}); Total lines: 418
L97: DigitalOcean Signals analyzes chat conversations that your applications send to Serverless Inference and detects behavioral signals, such as a user asking for a human, a failed tool call, an execution loop, or a user confirming that a response helped. Use Signals to find the conversations that went wrong without reading every transcript.
L98: You manage Signals with 【73†`doctl`】 version 1.181.0 or later. `doctl` needs a 【74†personal access token】 with the following scopes. A full-access token includes all of them.
L99:
L100: * `signals:query` to read Signals data, create exports, and get or list deletion jobs.
L101: * `signals:update` to turn collection on or off.
L102: * `signals:delete` to request data deletion.
L103: Signals applies consent and every other operation to the team that owns the token. For every command and flag, see the 【75†`doctl signals` reference】.
L104: ## How Signals Works
L105:
L106: Signals organizes each conversation into the following levels:
L107:
L108: * Dialogue: One completed run, made up of the user’s message and the steps taken to respond to it.
L109: * Session: One conversation, made up of one or more dialogues.
L110: * Signal: One behavioral pattern that Signals detects in a conversation, such as a user rephrasing a request or a tool call failing.
L111: For each conversation, Signals writes a signal report. The report rates the conversation’s overall quality from Excellent to Severe, lists the signals it detected, and marks the conversation as concerning when it needs a closer look.
L112:
L113: For what data Signals processes, how it redacts sensitive data, and where it stores data, see 【76†Signals data privacy】.
L114: ## Signal Types
L115:
L116: Signals detects 25 signal types in seven categories, grouped into three layers: interaction, execution, and environment. In API responses, a signal’s `layer` field contains the layer name in lowercase, and its `category` field contains the value in the Category column.
L117: ### Interaction Signals
L118:
L119: Interaction signals describe how the user responds to the conversation.
L120: Category | Signal type | Description
L121: --- | --- | ---
L122: `misalignment` | `MisalignmentClarification` | The user asks a clarifying question about a response.
L123: `misalignment` | `MisalignmentCorrection` | The user corrects the understanding of the task.
L124: `misalignment` | `MisalignmentRephrase` | The user restates their request in different words.
L125: `stagnation` | `StagnationDragging` | The conversation continues without meaningful progress toward the user’s goal.

Name the Signals scope that DigitalOcean publishes.

Step 4 tells users to grant read on signals. DigitalOcean's scope reference lists the Signals scopes as signals:query and signals:update, with no signals:read. Users following the step as written can therefore fail to find a matching Custom Scopes option. Name the published scope (signals:query) and the option label that appears in the token picker, and remove the generic "read" wording for this entry.

Review comment at @plugins/DigitalOcean/v1/docs/README.md at line 10:
Update step 4 under Scopes to replace the generic read instruction for signals
with the published signals:query scope and its token-picker label, “Signals:
Query”; leave the other scope instructions unchanged.
