title: fly mpg fork
source_url: https://fly.io/docs/flyctl/mpg-fork/
---

Fork a Managed Postgres cluster into a new cluster from the source's current
data, leaving the source cluster unchanged. The fork is provisioned
asynchronously in the same organization and billed separately.

The fork uses the source cluster's plan unless --plan picks a different one,
including a smaller one.

## Usage
```
fly mpg fork [CLUSTER_ID] [flags]
```
## Options

```
-h, --help help for fork
-n, --name string The name of the forked cluster (defaults to <source-name>-fork)
--plan string The plan for the forked cluster: Basic, Starter, Launch, Scale, Performance (defaults to the source cluster's plan)
```
## Global Options

```
-t, --access-token string Fly API Access Token
--debug Print additional logs and traces
--verbose Verbose output
```
