The maintainer's instruction (2026-10-03): current Claude Code supports AGENTS.md, so the one-line pointer file (`@AGENTS.md`) is gone. AGENTS.md section 17 no longer describes it, and the release tooling's test and README use PROJECT.md instead as their example of a root Markdown file that main drops. python-multiplatform did the same in its #97. deleted: CLAUDE.md. documentation corrected: AGENTS.md section 17, tools/release/README.md. test changed: test-sync-release.sh seeds PROJECT.md in place of CLAUDE.md; 49 passed, 0 failed. The pytest suite does not touch these files. Refs #56
