The storage migration runner ensures and reads legacy source collections before rewriting them into the current schema. Hosts derive storage grants from the TinyChannels bus contract, so undeclared sources are denied during module startup and can surface as a sanitized ModuleFault.

Add all 14 migration sources to the bus storage declarations, and make the owner migration steps use those constants so schema declarations and migration names cannot drift. Add a regression test that every migration source is declarable through the host-facing collection contract.

Tests:

  • cargo test -p tinychannels-bus --features storage every_migration_source_is_declared_for_host_storage_grants
  • cargo test -p tinychannels prepare_migrates_legacy_delivery_before_returning_and_is_idempotent

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Legacy delivery, remote-control, and WhatsApp storage collections are now recognized alongside existing collections.
    • Storage migrations now reference the named legacy collections, improving consistency when processing data from older storage layouts.

The storage schema now declares the legacy collection names that the
migrations read and rewrite, and includes them in the owned collection
list so host storage grants cover them. A test asserts every migration
source is declared, preventing migrations from failing on undeclared
collections.

Completeness: Complete
Test assessment: No supported feature-to-test mapping was available; this does not mean tests are absent or passed.

What changed

The diff adds 14 legacy source collection constants (LEGACY_DELIVERY_*, LEGACY_REMOTE_*, LEGACY_WHATSAPP_*) and a MIGRATION_SOURCE_COLLECTIONS array in crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs, grows COLLECTIONS from 16 to 30 entries to include them, replaces the string literals in each migration Step.source in src/storage/migrations.rs with the new constants, and adds a regression test in src/storage/migrations_tests.rs asserting every step source is declared by crate::storage::collections(). Migration behavior is unchanged because the constants hold the same string values as the literals they replace.

Features

  • Added — Legacy migration source collection constants: Provides named constants for every collection touched by the storage migrations, covering the three delivery sources, three remote sources, and eight WhatsApp sources, so migration steps and schema declarations reference a single source of truth. (crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const COLLECTIONS: [&str; 16] = [, crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const WHATSAPP_COLLECTIONS: [&str; 8] = [)
  • Added — MIGRATION_SOURCE_COLLECTIONS declaration array: Declares the full set of 14 legacy sources as a canonical array, but no code or test currently iterates it, so it can drift from the names actually used in steps(). (crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const COLLECTIONS: [&str; 16] = [, crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const WHATSAPP_COLLECTIONS: [&str; 8] = [)
  • Modified — COLLECTIONS expanded to include legacy migration sources: Hosts derive storage grants from these declarations, so including the legacy sources means migrations that ensure and read them are no longer denied during module startup, avoiding sanitized ModuleFaults. (crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const COLLECTIONS: [&str; 16] = [, crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const WHATSAPP_SYNC_KEY: &str = "channels.whatsapp_sync_key";)
  • Modified — Migration steps routed through legacy source constants: Step.source values now come from the named constants instead of duplicated string literals, preventing drift between schema declarations and migration names; because the constants hold the same strings, migration behavior is preserved. (src/storage/migrations.rs fn steps() -> [Step; 14] {, src/storage/migrations.rs use tinystoragedrivers_types::{, crates/tinychannels-bus/src/storage/schema.rs pub const WHATSAPP_SYNC_KEY: &str = "channels.whatsapp_sync_key";)

Tests

tests

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Positive: The tests lane confirms the added test is real: it iterates steps() and asserts each source is in collections(), so a step with an undeclared source or a dropped COLLECTIONS entry fails it, pinning the new declaration behavior.
  • Lane summary: The change hoists the fourteen legacy source names into `schema.rs` constants, adds them to `COLLECTIONS` so `prepare` declares them, and adds `every_migration_step_source_is_declared_for_host_storage_grants`, which iterates `steps()` and asserts each `source` is in `collections()` — that assertion fails if a future step is added with an undeclared source or a constant is dropped from `COLLECTIONS`, so the new declaration behaviour is pinned. One gap: `MIGRATION_SOURCE_COLLECTIONS` is introduced as the canonical list of sources but never exercised, so a drift between it and the names actually used in `steps()` would go unnoticed; the test should iterate that constant too.

description

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: The diff matches the description: it declares 14 legacy migration source constants, extends `COLLECTIONS` to 30, switches the owner migration steps to those constants, and adds a regression test that every step source is declared. The description's test name (`every_migration_source_is_declared_for_host_storage_grants`) does not exist — the added test is `every_migration_step_source_is_declared_for_host_storage_grants` in `src/storage/migrations_tests.rs`, so the documented test command would run zero tests. Leaving the reported test-command mismatch as the only finding; no code defect found.

Explanation

The title "fix(storage): declare legacy migration source collections" matches the main change. The PR adds 14 legacy delivery, remote-control, and WhatsApp collection names to the storage COLLECTIONS declarations and a MIGRATION_SOURCE_COLLECTIONS array. Owner migration steps now use the matching LEGACY_* constants. A regression test checks that every migration source is declared. The title is concise, specific, and follows a conventional commit style.

Test the migration step sources from steps(), not the separate source list.

every_migration_source_is_declared_for_host_storage_grants checks only MIGRATION_SOURCE_COLLECTIONS against collections(). It never reads the sources that the runner uses. If a steps() entry names a collection that collections() does not declare, the test still passes. run() then calls ensure_collection for that source, which can produce the undeclared-source startup failure this PR is meant to prevent.

The bus crate cannot call steps(), because the root crate depends on the bus crate. A test in src/storage/migrations.rs can call the private steps() directly. No new shared source of truth is required.

The migration source declaration test now iterates over migration steps
instead of the bus crate's source collection list, and lives alongside the
other migration tests. This keeps the check in sync with the step
definitions it is meant to validate.

Moved the regression check into src/storage/migrations_tests.rs, where it iterates the actual private steps() used by the runner and verifies every step.source is present in crate::storage::collections(). This now catches a migration source that drifts from the host-grant declarations. The focused regression test passes.
