feat(crypto): confidential password, keyring and pairing members (phase 8) - #17
Conversation
…tract 1.14) Part of tinyhumansai/openhuman#7328 (phase 8). Adds PasswordCrypt2, KeyringAccess2 and PairingControl2 as confidential members bound to the trusted host: legacy Argon2id/AES-256-GCM password payloads, native keyring backends (OS store, kernel keyring, encrypted file) behind a per-operation KeyringConsent2 callback, and pairing status, authenticate, invalidate and revoke. Key material stays out of info, logs and audit. Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

- Around line 222-236: Remove the derived Debug implementation from
PairingOperation2 and register PairingOperation2 with redacted_debug! so
formatting cannot expose the Authenticate bearer; add a test verifying formatted
output omits the bearer.
Review comments at @crates/tinysecurity-module/src/adapter.rs:
- Line 1359: Remove the `#[allow(clippy::too_many_lines)]` attribute from
`setup` and extract the per-authority `secret::configured`,
`cipher::configured`, and `crypto::configured` calls into a
`configured_confidential` helper that returns the configuration needed by
`setup`, keeping `setup` within Clippy’s line limit.
Review comments at @README.md:
- Line 15: Update the README migration-status sentence to remove the broad
claims that password RPCs and keyring backends remain unavailable; retain the
unavailable capabilities as Linux Secret Service and pairing challenge delivery
for Begin/Verify, while leaving the rest of the sentence unchanged.

- scrub plaintext pairing tokens after the owner hashes them; compare config by digest - wrap keyring Set values and passwords in drop guards before the first await - enforce the payload bound on keyring reads and on password length - constant-time, full-scan bearer comparison in the pairing engine - Authenticate charges one engine admission and no longer reads status - admit the contract maximum of 256 pairing accounts - give each encrypted-file keyring service its own subdirectory - redact PairingOperation2 Debug; reconcile README and spec availability text - extract confidential authority setup instead of allowing too_many_lines Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Preserve decoding for pre-1.14 hosts
When a 1.13 host—which accepts a provider minor of 1.14 through is_compatible—calls PolicyInfo on a module with any configured callback, the new serializer includes the crypto field (even when false). The 1.13 CallbackAvailability has deny_unknown_fields and no such member, so the host fails to decode a response that the version contract declares compatible. Keep the existing response shape forward-decodable or introduce a versioned response before adding this field.

Gate the real OS keyring test behind a live-test opt-in
This ordinary #[tokio::test] always attempts to mutate the machine's real Keychain, Credential Manager, or kernel keyring during cargo test; availability and user-session state therefore affect execution, while an unavailable store is silently treated as success. Gate it behind a feature or environment opt-in and name it live_* so the contract suite remains deterministic and does not touch external credential state by default.

Part of tinyhumansai/openhuman#7328 (phase 8: crypto, keyring, pairing).
Contract 1.14, additive. New confidential members, bound to the verified trusted host and an init-only
CryptoConfig2:PasswordCrypt2: legacy Argon2id + AES-256-GCM payload (byte-array shape, separate salt supported); frozen host fixture decrypts unchanged. Max two concurrent derivations, no wait queue.KeyringAccess2: Get/Set/Delete on OS keyring, Linux kernel keyring or protected encrypted file; every op first calls the newKeyringConsent2.Consentcallback (caller, purpose, access, name, never the value).PairingControl2: Status, Authenticate (constant time), Invalidate, Revoke for accounts registered at init.Key material never enters Debug, errors, PolicyInfo (only
callbacks.crypto) or audit. Tests: bus wire, password helpers + fixture, real encrypted-file and OS keyring backends (entry always cleaned up;TINYSECURITY_REQUIRE_OS_KEYRING=1makes an unavailable OS store fail), adapter tests with a real consent callback over the in-memory bus.Not in this PR (documented in MODULE.md): Linux Secret Service (would add ~800 lock lines; fails closed), pairing Begin/Verify (needs confidential delivery to an admitted native destination, the open TinyBus gap). The device X25519/HKDF tunnel stays on the existing
EvaluateDevice2/ExecuteDevice2members.Release needed for the host repin.
