Why

The OpenAI plugin ZIP was built with a git archive command repeated in the README, the tests and CI, and written wherever it was run.

What

  • scripts/build.ts (TypeScript, run directly by Node 24+): node scripts/build.ts writes build/trypost-plugin.zip from HEAD. The packed paths (pluginPaths) live only here.
  • build/ is git-ignored.
  • CI's OpenAI job builds with the script and uploads build/trypost-plugin.zip as the run artifact.
  • README and AGENTS.md point at the script. The README also fixes where the demo video URL goes: extensions.com.openai.review.demo_recording_url in plugin.json (the dashboard reads it only from the ZIP).
  • tsconfig.json type-checks scripts/ too.

Tests

tests/build.test.ts replaces the README-parsing test:

  • the packed paths exist and cover everything the OpenAI manifest references
  • the build writes build/trypost-plugin.zip with the plugin under a single trypost/ folder, and nothing else (no tests, scripts, README, workflows)
  • build/ is ignored by git
  • the README builds with the script, not git archive

Each check was confirmed by breaking it (dropping assets, the gitignore line, the trypost/ prefix). 82 tests, tsc and claude plugin validate --strict pass locally.

Version 2.0.1

Every manifest moves to 2.0.1, so the OpenAI directory picks up a new package version and scans the server again after the in-chat sign-in change (trypostit/trypost#431).

Skill: qualified tool names and sign-in

  • Every tool in SKILL.md is written trypost:<tool>, as Anthropic's skill guide asks for MCP tools. A Codex session missed the TryPost tools because the skill named list-social-accounts-tool while the client listed mcp__trypost__list_social_accounts_tool.
  • New Connecting section: how clients may show the names (trypost.<tool>, mcp__trypost__<tool_name>), that the tools appear once the user connects TryPost, where to sign in (https://app.trypost.it/login) or sign up (https://app.trypost.it/register), and that the web app is not a substitute.
  • New skills/setup/SKILL.md, declared as the OpenAI onboarding skill (extensions.com.openai.onboardingSkill): after install it checks the connection, lists the channels and guides sign-in.
  • Tests: every tool name is qualified, the setup skill is declared, valid, uses only documented tools and links sign-in and sign-up, and the ZIP carries it.

node scripts/build.ts writes build/trypost-plugin.zip from HEAD, and the
list of packed paths lives only in the script, so the README, the tests
and CI no longer repeat the git archive command. build/ is git-ignored.
The README now says the demo video URL goes in plugin.json, which is the
only place the OpenAI dashboard reads it from.
ChatGPT's sign-in prompt moved to the TryPost server (trypost#431); a new
package version asks the OpenAI directory to scan the server again.

build/trypost-chatgpt.zip, so a Claude package can sit next to it later.
The CI artifact follows the same name.
Anthropic's skill guide asks for fully qualified MCP tool names
(ServerName:tool_name): a Codex session missed the TryPost tools because
the skill named list-social-accounts-tool while the client listed
mcp__trypost__list_social_accounts_tool. Every tool is now written
trypost:<tool>, and a Connecting section says how clients may show the
names, that the tools appear once the user connects TryPost, where to
sign in or sign up, and that the web app is not a substitute.

The new setup skill is the OpenAI onboarding skill: it checks the
connection, lists the channels and guides sign-in after install.
