Packages can preview, commit, inspect and safely retire item batches through their bound PmClient. An interrupted batch can be compensated and superseded before a package builds a fresh plan, without reconstructing tracker paths or author policy.
Preview receipts expose full canonical staged records, normalized body/metadata, applied versus adopted state, and clocks that commit may regenerate. Configuration-only bootstrap prevents optional-schema FIFO reads before preview storage validation. Recovery persists the original plan, normalizes identity before recording effects, and fences replay with a version 2 retirement intent before compensation. It checks ownership under the item lock, preserves peer edits, deduplicates audit events, resumes retirement even if a replacement identity was used after a crash, and returns retirement guidance before plan mismatch for already retired identities.
Recovery acceptance evidence: the source refusal explicitly names client.itemTransactions.abandon, and the native regression assertion verifies that guidance. Both are non-generated files.
PM records: pm-gh1597, pm-gh1598. Closure evidence and the latest pm-changelog package's generated changelog are included in the reviewed delivery.
Validation:
Full sandboxed suite: 11,540 passed, three platform skips. Exact coverage: 71,424 statements, 55,038 branches, 14,707 functions and 67,490 lines, all 100% with zero uncovered counts.
Linked recovery 65/65 and SDK/semantic-preview 49/49; typecheck, ESLint, duplicates, generated contracts/surface/catalogs, docs links, graph composition and record integrity passed. Bounded mutation lane: 345 killed, seven equivalent, no failures.
Final packed npm artifact passed Node and Bun batch, replay, retirement, replacement and unsafe-bootstrap controls. Published 2026.10.28 separately passed npm/npx/Bun/bunx and GitHub-release verification; this is not a publication claim for the new APIs.
Earlier local CLI transport measurements failed fixed budgets on both the candidate and unchanged base. Thresholds were preserved; head 512184eb9 passed every required hosted check, including both performance gates and macOS. The product head 4d2a20af1 passed all required checks after one unchanged Windows retry. Its first scale-manifest keeper attempt exceeded the 30-second timeout and SDK create/claim targets; both outcomes are retained on the existing benchmark-diagnosis item. Final head 8a14dfc644855a9f40e40473de1322244b55a3e4 passed every required check. Its unchanged Windows merge-portability test first timed out at 30 seconds; one failed-jobs retry passed. No timeout, performance budget or coverage threshold was changed. The exact-head receipt has no failed, pending, missing or publisher-unverifiable required checks.
The requested operational audit is included as evidence on existing PM records: no open GitHub security/dependency alerts; current registry/OSV scans passed; the daily scheduled release verified the existing exact-day publication without creating another version. Fresh Sentry data showed no unresolved issues and a recent context span; six sampled telemetry sessions had six matched start/finish pairs, zero unmatched, maximum ingestion delay 3.18 seconds and an empty queue. Historical release-timing/nightly/pairing debt remains open; these bounded checks do not erase it. New report #1620 is attached to existing pm-gh1576 with a canonical issue-comment link.
Recovery does not undo committed batches. Supersession records a replacement identity but neither reserves nor atomically commits it. Journals retain original mutation values outside history redaction; this is documented. Older coordinators refuse version 2 retirement journals; legacy journals without a retained plan require their original adapter. The coordinator lock does not exclude ordinary item writers across a read-decide-write sequence; general expected-revision support remains separate work.
CodeRabbit's privacy-documentation, retirement-retry, retired-ID error-precedence, journal-retention and pending-retirement guidance findings are addressed. Five native negative controls reproduced the error-precedence defect before its fix; three more reproduced inaccurate pending-retirement wording. Pending refusals now report the persisted replacement identity and distinguish incomplete retirement from terminal abandonment without changing the error code. Sourcery, Greptile and cubic reported free-quota/trial limits on the initial head; unavailable reviews are not counted as clean reviews.
Final review: CodeRabbit explicitly covered 8a14dfc644855a9f40e40473de1322244b55a3e4 and reported no remaining issue preventing merge after normal checks. All actionable threads are resolved. Its scope warning about operational PM evidence is not applied because that audit and reviewed evidence are explicitly part of this delivery. Optional reviewer quota limits remain as described above.
Expose host-bound preview, commit, transaction status, abandonment and
supersession APIs so packages can use the SDK coordinator without copying
tracker resolution or author policy. Return full canonical staged records
with applied/adopted receipts and explicit commit-time clock fields.
Retain immutable admitted item plans and compensation policy in journals.
Fence forward replay with version 2 retirement intent before compensation,
retain pending and completed retirement receipts in GC, and deduplicate
workspace audit events across recovery crashes. Refuse committed or foreign
plans and preserve peer changes using history ownership and locked target
preconditions, including deletion compensation.
Add public declaration and crash-boundary regressions, synchronize generated
SDK/error contracts, and document preview and recovery limits. Link work and
validation to pm-gh1597 and pm-gh1598, with release, observability and GitHub
inventory evidence retained in their existing canonical tracker lineages.

Explanation
The PR satisfies the coding requirements for both active issues. For #1597, PmClient.itemTransactions exposes status, abandon, and supersede operations. Recovery retains the plan, validates ownership, avoids overwriting peer edits, and provides retirement guidance. Tests cover recovery, compensation, malformed plans, audit deduplication, and retry behavior. For #1598, PmClient exposes host-bound preview and commit methods. Preview results expose canonical staged records, normalized values, applied or adopted state, and regenerated-clock information. Host-bound, semantic-preview, and type-contract tests cover these APIs.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The pull request description is specific and closely matches the changeset. It describes host-bound PmClient batch preview, commit, status, abandon, and supersede APIs for item transactions. It also covers recovery behavior (version 2 retirement fencing, ownership checks under the item lock, audit deduplication) and lists the test, coverage, and validation results. It links the related issues #1597 and #1598 and names the affected records and documents. The description is related to the changeset, so the check passes.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The SDK implementation, focused tests, documentation, changelog, and required surface updates support #1597 or #1598. The PR also changes unrelated PM and operational records, including release history, nightly-artifact history, telemetry and Sentry sampling history, managed-extension metadata, benchmark diagnosis, and pm-gh1576 consumer-report records. These changes do not implement the linked issue requirements.
Resolution
Remove the unrelated release, nightly-artifact, telemetry, managed-extension, benchmark, and pm-gh1576 record changes from this PR, or move them to the relevant tracking changes. This PR extends item transactions with host-bound PmClient APIs, canonical non-writing previews, durable plan-aware inspection, and fenced abandon/supersede recovery. Version 2 retirement journals preserve original intent, safely compensate only owned effects under item locks, protect peer edits and committed work, deduplicate audit events, and retain recovery state for later inspection or GC.

Allow extensions to safely abandon an interrupted batch by fencing replay, compensating only owned applied effects, preserving peer edits, and retaining an abandoned journal.
Include canonical staged item records in preview results so callers can inspect normalized values and compare preview state with read-back after an unchanged commit.

when `journal.abandonment` is undefined and this call is starting retirement.
Keep the check in that branch so retries with an already-persisted retirement
intent can complete, while new retirements still reject an already-used
replacement id.

Normalize transaction identity before constructing mutation steps so durable
apply markers and coordinator receipts refer to the same transaction. Exercise
padded identities through crash recovery to prevent false compensation success.
Keep preview and status extension activation inside configuration-only reads,
then validate storage before opening optional schemas. Native child-process
controls prove FIFOs cannot hang the public host-bound preview path.
Resume durable supersession intent even when the replacement identity has
been used after an interrupted final journal write. Preserve the original
retirement reason and deduplicate the audit receipt across retries.
Document transaction-journal retention outside history redaction, ordinary
writer isolation limits, and retained GC receipts. Include structured PM closure,
linked regression evidence, generated changelog, release and observability audit
receipts, and canonical intake of the new concurrent-writer report.
Validation: 11540 passing tests with exact 100/100/100/100 source coverage;
linked recovery 65/65 and semantic preview 49/49; types, lint, generated
contracts and packed Node/Bun consumer checks. Local transport budgets also
fail unchanged base; hosted performance gates remain required and unchanged.
Please review revised head 512184e, including retirement retry after replacement use, normalized recovery identities, and configuration-only preview bootstrap. Both actionable inline findings are addressed with regression evidence. The release/observability PM evidence is intentionally included in the requested audit scope.

Validate retained journal structure, then let valid retirement metadata reach
the permanent transaction_abandoned refusal regardless of the requested plan.
A changed payload must not tell callers to abandon an identity that is already
retired. Extend native interrupted-compensation and completed-retirement cases;
all five assertions reproduce the old misleading plan-mismatch response.
Qualify committed-plan replay guarantees by journal retention. Transaction GC
can remove old committed receipts, after which their identities may be treated
as new. Preserve the distinct permanent retention of abandoned receipts.
Carry review remediation, linked tests and structured PM closure in the same
reviewed delivery. No thresholds or checks are weakened.
Attach the observed scale-manifest timeout and product-budget failures to the
existing runner-qualification diagnosis. Record the preceding green head and
the single successful failed-jobs retry on the same commit without inferring
causation or changing source, timeouts, qualification or performance budgets.
Preserve the failed admission as historical evidence and keep the canonical
diagnosis open and unclaimed. Tracker history and storage integrity pass.
Please review final head f340350. The retired-ID error-precedence and committed-journal retention findings are fixed in 4d2a20a, with five pre-fix negative controls, full exact coverage and packed Node/Bun verification. The final commit only records the Windows benchmark failure and its successful unchanged retry in the existing PM diagnosis. All actionable threads have concrete fix replies.

Build retirement errors from the validated journal so incomplete retirement
reports its durable replacement identity and the exact retry constraint. Keep
the transaction_abandoned code and existing terminal-abandonment behavior.
Use the same guidance for forward replay and mismatched abandonment retries.
Describe pending retirement accurately both during compensation and after
compensation when final journal publication is interrupted. Add native
negative controls for replacement and non-replacement intents, and verify
that a wrong retry preserves the pending receipt.
Validation: 11540 tests passed with exact 100% statements, branches, functions

pending-retirement controls passed. Include reviewed PM closure and generated
changelog with the implementation.
Please review head 8a14dfc. Pending-retirement refusals now report the persisted replacement identity and accurate retry guidance for both replay and mismatched abandonment retries, while preserving the error code and terminal behavior. Three pre-fix native cases reproduced the issue; the linked recovery suite, full 11540-test exact coverage and packed Node/Bun controls pass. The actionable thread has the fix evidence, and the PR description links the non-generated recovery-guidance source and assertion.
