What changed

  • Removes the 56 files under .github/pr-assets/. Each PR that added screenshots or a demo video committed them there, so they merged into next with the code.
  • Adds the Cleanup PR Assets workflow (.github/workflows/wac/cleanupPrAssets.wac.ts). Every night at 03:00 UTC, and on manual dispatch, it removes whatever is under .github/pr-assets/ on next, commits chore: remove .github/pr-assets [skip ci] and pushes it straight to next. No PR is involved.

next requires an approving review for every push, and GITHUB_TOKEN can't bypass that. The job checks out and pushes with GH_TOKEN, the token the release workflows use. The direct push works only if that token's owner may push to next without a review: an admin (admins aren't held to the rule), or someone on the bypass list. If the owner can't, the push is rejected and the run fails without changing anything.

If a merge lands between checkout and push, the push is rejected as non-fast-forward and the next night's run removes the files.

Why removing the files is safe

PR bodies link these files as raw.githubusercontent.com/webiny/webiny-js/<sha>/.github/pr-assets/.... That URL reads the file from that commit, which stays in next's history, so the images keep loading. Clone size doesn't change, because the files stay in history.

Testing

Ran the job's script against a local bare remote with a next branch holding one asset. The first run removed it and pushed. The second run found nothing and exited without a commit. The GH_TOKEN push to the real next is untested until the first run after merge. Trigger it from the Actions tab to check it.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Added scheduled and manually triggered cleanup of tracked pull request assets.
    • Removed assets are committed to the next branch; links pinned to specific commits remain available.
    • Cleanup runs report how many files were removed and finish successfully when there are no tracked assets to remove.

✅ Nothing worth flagging. The diff looks consistent with the PR's stated intent and the code-style rules.

PR matches its stated intent: it removes only binary files under .github/pr-assets/, with no code changes to review for style.

Automated, non-blocking heads-up from an LLM. It can be wrong — use your judgment. Regenerates on every push.

Walkthrough

The changes add a workflow that runs daily or by manual dispatch. It checks for tracked .github/pr-assets files and, when found, deletes them, commits the deletion, and pushes to next.

Changes: PR asset cleanup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define and run asset cleanup
.github/workflows/wac/cleanupPrAssets.wac.ts, .github/workflows/cleanupPrAssets.yml
The WAC definition and generated workflow configure the daily schedule, manual dispatch, and serialized runs. When tracked assets exist, the workflow counts and deletes them, commits as webiny-bot with [skip ci], and pushes to next. If none exist, it exits with a notice. Command failures stop the script.

  • webiny/webiny-js#6107: Adds a nightly cleanup for tracked .github/pr-assets files, using a cleanup pull request instead of pushing the deletion directly to next.

Suggested reviewers: brunozoric, pavel910

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to ebff7

The cleanup workflow has no established merge-blocking defect. Its ability to push to next still depends on the configured token and branch protections.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "ci: delete .github/pr-assets from next every night" matches the main change. The added workflow deletes the .github/pr-assets directory from the next branch on a daily 03:00 UTC schedule, and the title states this. The title is concise, specific, and follows a conventional commit prefix. The PR objectives describe the removal of 56 files and the nightly workflow, which the title covers. The title does not name the manual dispatch option, but that is a minor detail.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 1 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Reject duplicate basenames before creating the commit.

If a call includes a/image.png and b/image.png, both files target the same index path. The second file replaces the first before the push. The script then reports two successful uploads, but both printed URLs refer to the second file. Reject duplicate basenames or assign distinct destination names.

Encode the filename in the printed URL.

If a filename contains # or ?, the printed URL treats the remaining text as a fragment or query instead of part of the filename. The push succeeds, but the URL does not retrieve the uploaded file. Percent-encode the basename as a URL path segment before printing it. (developer.mozilla.org)

Adds the Cleanup PR Assets workflow. At 03:00 UTC, and on manual
dispatch, it removes .github/pr-assets from next and pushes the commit
straight to next with GH_TOKEN, the token the release workflows use.
GITHUB_TOKEN cannot push there because next requires an approving
review. The commit message carries [skip ci].
