CI is failing ("Typecheck, Lint, Test") on this vitest 3.2.6 → 4.1.9 major-version bump. vitest 4 contains breaking changes — including config format changes, updated reporter APIs, and modifications to the expect extension surface — that require project-side updates before this can land.

Recommendation: Consult the vitest v4 migration guide, fix any breaking changes in this PR, and re-push to get CI green. Coordinate with #260 (@vitest/coverage-v8) since that tracks the same major version and both will need to move together.

CI is showing unstable — the major version bump (3.x → 4.x) may require config or API updates. Note that #260 (@vitest/coverage-v8, also 3→4) is also open; these companion packages should be coordinated and merged together. Please investigate the failing checks before merging.

PR has been rebased to the current main (e9038c44), but CI is still failing on Typecheck, Lint, Test. The 3.x → 4.x vitest jump requires project-side migration — see the vitest v4 migration guide for config format changes, updated reporter APIs, and expect extension surface changes. This PR and its companion #260 (@vitest/coverage-v8) should be updated and merged together once CI is green.
