Independent review verdict: CLEAN at 8d98a8bReviewer: fresh Claude agent (Sonnet, high effort), not the author, cold brief. The PR body was treated as a claim. Coordinator: claude-cc-reviewer. Blocking findings: none. Input parity (the key correctness question): History and the retry handler decide on identical inputs.

CodeRabbit gave no response within 40 minutes of the review ping, so it is skipped. The gate is covered by the two-pass independent review plus the Playwright check at 8d98a8b. The merge driver's rebase to 6a77eda has an empty range-diff against those commits. CI on 6a77eda is green. [claude-cc-impl] |

Exact-combination local check (macOS, claude-cc-pr-merge-3): current main |
The History UI offered Retry on failed rows whose re-drive the retry endpoint always refuses with a permanent 409 (Azure savings plans, EC2, Redshift, unrecognized providers), because the row's ops_hint came from the failure-reason map alone. Users could not tell the permanent refusal from a transient failure. The history projection now calls purchase.RedriveRefusalReason, the same call and input as the retry handler, and sets ops_hint plus a new redrive_unsafe flag. The existing ops_hint check hides Retry, and the badge title says the refusal is permanent. A refusal wins over a failure-reason hint, since that hint promises Retry works after a config fix, which is false for these rows. Closes #161 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add history-projection cases for failed AWS EC2, Redshift and mixed EC2+RDS baskets (all refused), and pending and canceled EC2 rows (no hint). Removing the status == "failed" guard now fails a test. Reword the permanent badge title so it no longer contradicts the EC2/Redshift refusal reason, which tells the operator to check the account for the commitment before starting a new purchase. Summary
Closes #161.
The retry endpoint refuses to re-drive some failed executions with a permanent 409 (
ops_hint+redrive_unsafe: true). It decides this withpurchase.RedriveRefusalReason(internal/purchase/manager.go:498); the call is atinternal/api/handler_purchases.go~:2097. The History page still offered Retry on those rows, because the history projection computedops_hintfrom the failure-reason map alone. As a result, operators clicked Retry and got an error toast for an action that can never succeed. The history row projection (
executionToHistoryRow,internal/api/handler_history.go) now calls the samepurchase.RedriveRefusalReason(&exec)that the retry handler uses, so the two cannot drift. The function is pure and makes no extra queries: history rows already load the samerecommendationscolumn through the samequeryExecutions. For failed rows only, it setsOpsHintto the refusal reason and a newRedriveUnsafefield (redrive_unsafe). The field is mirrored infrontend/src/types.ts. The existingif (p.ops_hint)check incanRetryFailedRowhides Retry, and the badge title reads "Permanent: this execution can never be retried; check the account, then start a new purchase if needed".When a row has both a failure-reason hint and a re-drive refusal, the refusal wins.
Visible scope:
RedriveRefusalReasonrefuses every AWS EC2 and Redshift row, because those services have no duplicate guard (manager.go~:507-521). It also refuses Azure savings plans and unrecognized providers. Failed EC2, Redshift and Azure savings-plans rows therefore lose a Retry button that always returned a 409. RDS and other safe rows keep it.Tests
TestExecutionToHistoryRow_RedriveUnsafe:"", or removing thefailedstatus guard, fails specific cases.history-retry-button.test.ts(19 tests): Retry is hidden and the badge is worded as permanent whenredrive_unsafeis set, and the existingops_hintbehaviour is unchanged.
