feat: resolve the gh repository from the checkout remote - #22
gcb gh can omit --repo inside a checkout only when origin names a usable GitHub repository. It normalizes HTTPS, ssh:// and git@host:owner/repo.git forms and requires the remote host to match --host.
Anything else — no origin, another remote, a host mismatch, or a local-path URL — requires an explicit --repo (and --host when needed); there is no fallback to the first remote.
This is the remote-resolution half of the ROADMAP item; -R, explicit hostname rejection and broker-side --repo injection remain open.
corepack yarn check: 294 pass.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
The gh command can now use a checkout’s origin remote as the default repository when --repo is omitted, provided it identifies a valid repository on the requested host.
If the origin remote is missing, invalid, or on a different host, the command reports an error and provides guidance.
Documentation
Updated gcb gh usage information to explain when --repo may be omitted and when to specify --repo or --host.

Walkthrough
When --repo is omitted, gcb gh derives the repository from the checkout’s origin remote. It rejects an unusable remote or one whose host differs from the requested host. Remote parsing now returns host information alongside the owner and repository.
Changes: GitHub repository resolution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Parse remote host and repository packages/client/src/commands/remotes.ts, test/unit/remotes.test.ts
RemoteRepo now includes a host. The parser retains ports for HTTP(S) URLs and omits them for SSH URLs. Tests check the returned host values.
Resolve repository from origin packages/client/src/commands/gh.ts, README.md
When --repo is omitted, runGh uses the repository from origin if the remote is usable and its host matches the requested host. The usage text and README describe when --repo can be omitted.
Test checkout resolution test/unit/gh-command.test.ts
Tests verify successful resolution from a GitHub origin, rejection of a remote with an extra path component, and rejection of a remote on another host.
The checkout-based repository default appears ready to merge after normal checks.

Explanation
The title "feat: resolve the gh repository from the checkout remote" matches the main change. The PR lets gcb gh omit --repo and resolve the repository from the checkout's origin remote, which the raw summary confirms in gh.ts, remotes.ts, the tests, and the README. The title names the feature and its source. It is specific and under 60 characters. It does not name the host-matching rule, but the title does not need every detail.

The new parser took the last two path segments, so a remote URL with more path than owner/repo could be misread. Use listRemotes/remoteRepo, which already own the URL rules and their tests, and keep the origin-first choice here. A regression test covers the extra-path case.

Reviewed the remote-resolution path. The new code duplicated the existing remotes.ts parser and took the last two path segments, so a URL with more path than owner/repo could be misread. Commit f680375 reuses listRemotes/remoteRepo for the URL rules and keeps the origin-first choice local; a regression test covers the extra-path case. corepack yarn check passes locally (292 tests) and all CI jobs are green. LGTM.

remoteRepo dropped the port, so a checkout on https://host:8443 could not match --host host:8443. Keep the port for HTTP(S) remotes, drop it for SSH/git remotes, and cover both. Move the test-only GIT_* cleanup into test/lib/run.ts so both suites share it, and document the omitted --repo default.

Re-reviewed the new host-check and Git-environment commit. The host comparison and GIT_* cleanup are correct, but remoteRepo dropped the port, so a supported host:port deployment could never match --host host:port. Commit d12781b keeps ports for HTTP(S) remotes (and drops them for SSH/git), shares the test-only environment cleanup instead of duplicating it, and documents the omitted --repo default. corepack yarn check passes locally (294 tests) and all CI jobs are green. LGTM.
remoteRepo('origin') already returns undefined when origin is absent, so listing the remotes first only adds a subprocess and an import. Tighten the README wording for when passing --host is enough.

Re-reviewed the origin-only update. Requiring origin is a reasonable simplification: no fallback to a remote that may be a fork/upstream, and the README now says so. I accepted dropping the GIT_* scrubbing after checking the invocation shape (gcb gh is a standalone CLI, not a git hook helper) and replied on that thread. I also removed the now-redundant listRemotes call, since remoteRepo("origin") already fails when origin is absent, and tightened the README wording for when --host is enough. corepack yarn check passes locally (294 tests) and all CI jobs are green. LGTM.
