Summary

These are the macOS computer-use driver changes held back from v0.5.12, now verified on a real Mac (macOS 26.6.2):

  • Element type keeps an already-focused element's selection.
  • Safe text keys reach canvas apps that expose no AX focus.
  • Foreground clicks can look through UU Remote's full-screen overlay.

The live GUI suite also builds and runs on stable Rust again.

Approach

Driver

  • fix(computer-use): element type keeps the selection of an element that was already focused, so selected text is replaced and the caret is kept. An element that was not focused still receives text at the end. The model-facing text description says this.

  • fix(computer-use): an unapproved text key without an element target is sent only when all of the following hold:

    • The foreground focus wait has expired.
    • Both app and system focus are absent.
    • A strict delivery-time AX scan of the window finds no secure field. The scan checks role, subrole and children; it fails closed on incomplete reads or traversal limits and has a 750 ms budget.

    The result note says the app reports no focused element.

  • fix(computer): the click-point check looks through a UURemoteServer overlay only when all of the following hold:

    • The overlay covers the full display at layer 1000 or above.
    • Its PID matches the AX hit.
    • The first visible window under it belongs to the target.
    • The owner's running code validates against an Apple-anchored requirement (signing identifier and Team ID).

    Any lookup or validation failure refuses, as before.

Live tests

  • New regressions:
    • selection preservation, in both the background and the foreground;
    • an untargeted text key on a canvas;
    • Safari page click occlusion;
    • the character-count path when AXValue is missing.
  • Live helpers re-resolve stale AX handles, up to five attempts.
  • live_macos now uses a harness = false libtest-mimic runner. Stable rustc 1.97 rejects reexport_test_harness_main with E0658.
    • AppKit's main thread still pumps CFRunLoop.
    • Each test runs on its own named thread.
    • --ignored, --exact (with several names), --test-threads, --nocapture and --list keep working.
    • Non-macOS targets get an empty entry point.
  • Fixes from the first live run:
    • Safari pages are identified by the web area's AXURL, because Safari 26 returns NoValue for the window's AXDocument.
    • The TextEdit tests assert the caret-preserving type.
    • The shared-deadline test has more headroom.

Docs

  • The computer-use pages (en, zh) say UU overlay recognition has been added but not yet tested in a live UU session.
  • The phase-2 design doc records the live result.

Verification

All checks ran on macOS 26.6.2 (Apple Silicon) with stable rustc 1.97.1.

  • Live GUI suite: 89 of 90 pass. observe_of_an_electron_app_waits_for_its_tree skips because ORCA_CU_ELECTRON_APP is unset.
    • Command: cargo test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos --locked -- --ignored --test-threads=1 --nocapture.
    • A full run at 87a51330 was followed by reruns on an idle desktop of the tests disturbed by other apps taking the foreground.
    • textedit_save_panel_uses_foreground_for_typing then failed one more caret assertion. 6cf4f454 fixes it, and the test passes on its own.
    • An earlier run at 97e4db09 used the old harness under rustc 1.92.0. It found the Safari, TextEdit and toolchain problems fixed here.
  • cargo test -p orca-computer-use --locked: 211 unit, 3 harness contract and 8 default live_macos tests pass; 90 live tests are ignored.
  • cargo test -p orca-tools --locked: 277 pass.
  • env -u NODE_OPTIONS cargo test -p orca-runtime --lib --locked -- computer_use: 58 pass, 2 ignored.
  • env -u NODE_OPTIONS cargo test -p blade-deepseek --test public_docs_contract --locked: 13 pass.
  • cargo fmt --all -- --check and git diff --check are clean.
  • cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets --locked reports no warnings in changed files.
  • cargo check -p orca-computer-use --tests --locked passes for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu and x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.
  • Not run locally: the full workspace test and clippy gates, left to CI.
  • Not live-tested: the UU Remote overlay path has not run in a connected UU session. Pure-record unit tests cover it.

Impact

  • Public protocol/CLI: the computer tool's text description changes, because already-focused targets keep their selection.
  • Persisted data/migration: none.
  • Security/permissions:
    • An unfocused text key requires a fresh strict secure-field scan.
    • The UU overlay exception requires code-signature validation and fails closed.
  • Dependencies:
    • Dev-only libtest-mimic 0.8.2 (with escape8259) and the workspace clap for orca-computer-use tests.
    • The CGDirectDisplay feature of objc2-core-graphics.
  • Documentation: the computer-use pages (en, zh) and the phase-2 design doc.

User Interface

Not applicable.

Checklist

  • The change is focused and contains no unrelated refactors.
  • Tests cover the change where appropriate.
  • cargo fmt --all -- --check passes.
  • cargo test --workspace --all-targets -- --test-threads=1 passes. (Left to CI.)
  • If credentials, platform limits, or external services block the full test gate, the Verification section lists the largest relevant test subset run and explains the blocker.
  • cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets passes. (Left to CI.)
  • If credentials, platform limits, or external services block the full clippy gate, the Verification section lists the largest relevant subset run and explains the blocker.
  • Public behavior changes are reflected in documentation.
  • No secrets or sensitive data are included.
  • No version or release artifacts are included unless explicitly requested by a maintainer.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Foreground actions can work with UU Remote’s full-screen overlay when it does not obscure the target app; other remote-control overlays may still block them.
    • Typing into a focused element preserves its selection; typing into an unfocused element enters text at the end.
    • Certain keyboard actions can proceed without a reported focused element when the app and system report no focus and a security check passes.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Security checks report incomplete results when accessibility data cannot be fully read within scan limits.
  • Documentation

    • Updated guidance on partial accessibility-tree results and remote-control overlay limitations.

Keep each independently discovered AX element with its native lookup so
live-test helpers can re-resolve a destroyed or replaced handle. Retry
InvalidUIElement from the timeout setter or read up to five attempts,
with 100 ms between attempts; retain existing handling for other errors.

Apply the same retry to fixture values, optional native attributes,
raw failure probes, and independent PID reads. Preserve the original
control predicates, Calculator snapshot lookup, and driver assertions.
Add desktop-free regression coverage for re-resolution, exhaustion,
spacing, and immediate return for success and non-stale errors.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use; cargo test -p orca-computer-use
--test live_macos --no-run; cargo test -p orca-computer-use;
cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets; git diff --check.
All required checks passed; 86 GUI tests stayed ignored. Clippy emitted
only existing warnings outside the changed file.
Capture the original AX focus before attempting background typing and carry it
into foreground fallback. Avoid refocusing an already-focused element or
collapsing its selection, so selected text is replaced and the caret is kept.
Newly focused elements still receive appended text; password checks stay in
their existing locations.

Add selection-decision unit coverage and ignored background/foreground fixture
regressions. Update the model-facing typing contract and record that the dated
behavior change still awaits live verification.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use -p orca-tools;

Some canvas apps accept keys but never expose an AX keyboard recipient.
Allow unapproved text keys without an element target only after the foreground
focus wait expires, both app and system focus are absent, and the target
window has a nonsecure, nontruncated observation. Preserve Type and reported
recipient password checks and disclose unfocused delivery in the result note.

Keep secure presence before observation filtering. Mark known depth/stale
subtree skips truncated so partial trees cannot authorize this fallback.
Add canvas responder/key logging, a canvas-only fixture mode and an ignored
live regression; align both docs with incomplete observation semantics.

Checked: cargo test -p orca-computer-use (182 unit and 8 default integration
passed, 89 live tests ignored); cargo test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos
--no-run; env -u NODE_OPTIONS cargo test -p orca-runtime --lib -- computer_use
(57 passed, 2 ignored); cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets (no
warnings on changed lines); /usr/bin/swiftc -O -module-cache-path target/task-5-swift-uu2xcvg6/module-cache crates/orca-computer-use/tests/fixtures/CUFixture.swift -o target/task-5-swift-uu2xcvg6/CUFixture; cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use;
git diff --check. No live GUI tests or fixture execution.
Add an ignored live Safari regression using a temporary HTML page whose
click handler records coordinates in its title. Keep a fixture window over
one page point and assert ownership refusal, no HID post, and no page click;
then verify a foreground click at an uncovered point reaches the page.

Track the actual file destination and retain its native tab control so
cleanup closes only the test page, including on panic, while preserving
other Safari tabs and the existing focus and pointer restoration.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use; git diff --check;
cargo test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos --no-run;
cargo test -p orca-computer-use;
cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets. No live GUI tests run;
no new clippy warnings in changed lines.
Only look through an exact UURemoteServer full-display overlay at layer
1000 or above when its PID matches the AX hit and the first underlying
visible window belongs to the target. Preserve the original fast path,
refusal message, and conservative failure handling; bound window decoding.

Add twelve pure-record regression tests and update both doc locales and
the phase-two limitation note. Restore explicit time-limit wording for
the existing public docs contract. Connected UU live validation is pending.

Checked: cargo test -p orca-computer-use driver::macos::occlusion::tests
(expected red, then green); cargo test -p orca-computer-use;
cargo test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos --no-run;
env -u NODE_OPTIONS cargo test -p blade-deepseek --test public_docs_contract
(initial wording failure, then 13 passed); cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use
--all-targets (no changed-line warnings); cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use;
git diff --check. No live GUI tests executed.
Replace cached observation flags with a strict delivery-time AX tree scan
when both focus queries are absent. Check role, subrole, and children
independently of frames, fail closed on incomplete reads and traversal
limits, and bound native reads by the remaining 750 ms scan budget.

Remove unused secure-presence and table truncation caches while retaining
observation truncation for depth limits and stale subtrees. Cover strict
scan failures, traversal limits, mid-read expiry, and the focus truth table.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use; cargo test -p
orca-computer-use; cargo test -p orca-computer-use --lib security_tests
(final 13 passed); cargo test -p orca-computer-use --lib unfocused_keys;
git diff --check. Ignored live GUI tests were not run.
Pin remote overlay owners by signing identifier and Team ID as well as
name and display geometry. Resolve each candidate PID's running guest
code with Security.framework and dynamically validate it against the
Apple-anchored requirement; any lookup or validation failure refuses.

Keep stack evaluation pure through an authentication predicate and avoid
caching identity decisions across calls. Test rejected authentication,
cheap prefilters, requirement parsing, and rejection of this test process.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use; cargo test -p
orca-computer-use --lib occlusion (16 passed); cargo build -p
orca-computer-use; cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets
(existing warnings only, none in changed lines); git diff --check.
Ignored live GUI tests were not run.
Start the AXValue-unavailable targeted type test with another control
focused. An opt-in fixture probe selects the crab's two UTF-16 units when
Name is focused and records the character-count read and actual selection.
Wait for the input receipt, require length four, and assert a🦀cx: removing
selection collapse would replace the crab and produce axc instead.

Checked: cargo fmt -p orca-computer-use; cargo test -p orca-computer-use

--test public_docs_contract (13 passed); cargo clippy -p orca-computer-use
--all-targets (existing warnings only); git diff --check. Ignored live
GUI tests were built only, never run.
Replace the unstable reexported libtest entry point with a harness=false
libtest-mimic runner. Keep AppKit's main thread pumping CFRunLoop while
tests run off-thread, and restore the suite's foreground app and pointer
before returning a failing exit status when tests or restoration fail.

Register all 98 original names with their original ignore status. Spawn
a fresh named thread per test, even in serial mode, to isolate thread-local
state and report panics without stopping the suite. Support standard filters,
ignored mode, listing, nocapture, and multiple name filters. Provide an empty
non-macOS entry point and GUI-free runner contract tests.

Checked: stable rustc 1.97.1; cargo +stable fmt -p orca-computer-use;
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use --locked (211 unit, 3 harness contract,
and 8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 GUI tests ignored; the nested
intentional panic was correctly reported as a failure by its contract test);
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos --locked --no-run;

Read the page AXWebArea AXURL before falling back to the window AXDocument,
which Safari 26 advertises but returns NoValue for. Continue accepting CFURL
and string URLs and canonicalize the resulting local path.

Require that path to match the test-owned file during discovery and cleanup,
rather than accepting a window title alone. Assert identity both before and
after the click changes the page title; keep the retained-tab cleanup guard.

8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 live GUI tests ignored);

warnings only); git diff --check. All checks used stable rustc 1.97.1.
The ignored Safari GUI test was compiled but not run.
…el control

Explicitly focus the test-owned document editor and set its caret to the
start before moving Finder to the foreground. Expect element type to insert
Background control before Seed., preserving the already-focused selection
instead of assuming every type appends.

Keep the background-only action, foreground_used=false assertion, exact
native text receipt, and unchanged foreground/pointer checks as the main
editor's positive control. Do not change the driver's typing semantics.

Checked: cargo +stable fmt -p orca-computer-use;
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use --locked (211 unit, 3 harness contract,
8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 live GUI tests ignored);

The ignored TextEdit GUI test was compiled but not run.
State in both public locales that UU overlay recognition has been added
but the foreground path has not been exercised in an active UU session.
Keep the same pending-validation status in the phase-two design notes.

Record the supplied 2026-10-19 macOS 26.6.2 passes for both focused-selection
preservation tests, and describe the former collapse behavior in past tense.

Checked: env -u NODE_OPTIONS cargo +stable test -p blade-deepseek --test
public_docs_contract --locked (13 passed); cargo +stable fmt -p
orca-computer-use; cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use --locked
(211 unit, 3 harness contract, 8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 live GUI
tests ignored); cargo +stable clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets
--locked (existing warnings only); git diff --check. Rust checks used
stable rustc 1.97.1; no ignored GUI or runtime native/real tests were run.
Reduce the slow modal fixture's per-node delay from 0.84s to 0.4s so its
34 ancestry reads consume about 13.6s instead of 28.6s. Keep the final sheet
receipt and exact preflight refusal assertion, leaving more time for native
foreground activation before the existing 30s action deadline.

Use 1000 characters (20s of estimated HID delivery) so typing fits a fresh
30s budget but cannot fit the shared budget after ancestry. This also catches
an incorrectly renewed deadline. Change only the test and Swift fixture;
leave driver timing semantics untouched.

Checked: cargo +stable fmt -p orca-computer-use;
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use --locked (211 unit, 3 harness contract,
8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 live GUI tests ignored);
cargo +stable clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets --locked (existing
warnings only); xcrun swiftc -typecheck
crates/orca-computer-use/tests/fixtures/CUFixture.swift; git diff --check.
Also exercised two default live_macos test names together with --exact,
--test-threads=1 and --nocapture (2 passed). Rust checks used stable rustc
1.97.1. No ignored GUI tests were run; actual timing awaits the live rerun.
Replace the Save panel's trailing -target assertion with an exact receipt
built from the filename captured before element-targeted input. Require
-target immediately after orca-panel-name while preserving the original
suffix, including any visible extension, at the end of the filename.

The field already has focus, so type preserves its caret rather than
collapsing to the end. Audit the other element-type assertions: remaining
append expectations use end-positioned carets, empty controls, or newly
focused targets and do not require the old behavior. Change no driver code.

Checked: stable rustc 1.97.1; cargo +stable fmt -p orca-computer-use;
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use (211 unit tests, 3 harness contract
tests, and 8 default live_macos tests passed; 90 live tests ignored; the
harness contract's intentional panic was correctly counted as a failure);
cargo +stable clippy -p orca-computer-use --all-targets (existing warnings
only); git diff --check. No ignored GUI or runtime native/real tests ran.

📝 Walkthrough

The macOS driver now preserves selections for already-focused typing targets, performs bounded accessibility security scans, and recognizes an authenticated remote overlay during click checks. The package adds a live test harness and updates related documentation and fixtures.

Changes: macOS computer-use behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Preserve selection for focused typing
crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/actions.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/foreground.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/tests/fixtures/CUFixture.swift, crates/orca-tools/src/registry.rs, docs/superpowers/specs/2026-10-11-computer-use-phase2-design.md
Typing preserves the selection when the target was already focused and remains the keyboard recipient. Otherwise, the driver focuses the target and collapses the selection. The fixture, tool description, and design document cover the selection behavior.
Bound security scans and gate no-focus keys
crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/ax.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/tree.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/foreground.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/tests/fixtures/CUFixture.swift, site/src/docs/md/en/computer-use.mdx, site/src/docs/md/zh/computer-use.mdx
Security scans use deadline-bounded accessibility reads and report clean, secure-present, or incomplete results. A text-entering key can proceed without app focus only when app and system focus are absent and the scan is clean. Tree walks report truncation for depth limits and skipped stale subtrees.
Recognize authenticated remote overlays
crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/occlusion.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/events.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/mod.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/Cargo.toml, docs/superpowers/specs/2026-10-11-computer-use-phase2-design.md, site/src/docs/md/en/computer-use.mdx, site/src/docs/md/zh/computer-use.mdx
Click checks accept a point beneath a qualifying authenticated remote overlay when the first non-overlay window at that point belongs to the target process. The check evaluates the overlay owner’s signature, window geometry, and stack position.
Add the live macOS test harness
crates/orca-computer-use/Cargo.toml, crates/orca-computer-use/tests/support/live_harness.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/tests/live_macos/main.rs, crates/orca-computer-use/tests/live_harness_contract.rs
The live integration test uses a shared CLI and trial harness. Contract tests cover filtering, ignored trials, listing, thread naming, and panic reporting.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to f7f4d

Typing into an already-focused field inside a modal sheet can fail when the app does not report its focused element. A focus change during the fallback can also insert text at the click position instead of at the end of the field. Fix the foreground focus wait before merging, and address the selection-collapse decision.

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to f7f4d

The new no-focus keyboard path can outlive the focus state it validated, potentially sending an unapproved text key or paste to a newly focused password field. The exposure is primarily within the local desktop session. The remote-overlay exception otherwise retains strong identity and ownership checks.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new no-focus exception does not revalidate focus after its security scan. If the target application's UI moves focus to a secure field in another window during that scan, the original window can still scan clean and unfocused_key suppresses the secure-recipient check. The subsequent HID guard checks only that the target PID remains frontmost, permitting the requested text key, including paste, to reach the new recipient without secure-entry approval. The base refused delivery when the focus wait expired. This is an inferred transition weakness, not a reproduced exploit.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The primary exposure is the active local macOS desktop session. Foreground events enter the global HID stream, guarded by a frontmost-target PID check rather than PID-directed posting. The newly eligible text-key class includes Command+V, so one accepted action can paste clipboard content rather than insert only one character.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — If UI or content in the target application moves keyboard focus into another window's secure field after the no-focus reads, the scanned window may remain clean while delivery proceeds. Remaining frontmost in the same PID satisfies the final posting guard. This supports the stale-recipient concern, but neither malicious triggering nor a live exploit was verified. Fail-closed scan outcomes and frontmost checks constrain the path without covering this same-PID transition.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The overlay exception does not trust a process name alone. Production obtains the hit PID from AX; the stack evaluator requires a matching authenticated overlay owner, full-display coverage at layer 1000 or above, and target ownership of the first containing non-overlay window. Lookup, parsing or authentication failures refuse the exception. Clicks are checked again immediately before mouse-down.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — HID delivery retains release events before posting downs, and explicit cleanup plus Drop releases held input after failure or cancellation. Foreground restoration attempts the previous application, pointer and minimized state; successful delivery remains successful with restoration failures disclosed. These controls contain partial-action effects but do not undo input already delivered.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Revalidate app and system focus after the scan and near key-down. If a recipient has appeared, apply the secure-recipient checks rather than retaining the unfocused exception; otherwise ensure the same window remains eligible. Exercise same-PID window and secure-focus transitions, including paste, to validate the intended delivery guarantee.

Address PR #141 review item 4. A zero-alpha window can still intercept
mouse input, so only authenticated remote overlays may be skipped at the
click point. Keep geometry, alpha-range validation, and owner checks.

Split the stack-order regression into transparent-cover refusal and
off-point skipping tests. Cover invalid alpha values and bounds as well.
The transparent-cover test failed before the fix and passes afterward.

Checked: stable rustc 1.97.1; cargo +stable fmt -p orca-computer-use;
cargo +stable test -p orca-computer-use (213 unit, 3 harness contract,
8 default live tests passed; 90 live tests ignored); cargo +stable clippy
-p orca-computer-use --all-targets (existing warnings only); cargo +stable
test -p orca-computer-use --test live_macos --no-run; git diff --check.
No ignored GUI or runtime native/real tests were run.
Address PR #141 review items 1 and 3. Resolve the initial Type recipient
and both foreground Type/Key click shortcuts through keyboard_recipient,
including the verified AXFocused target fallback when the application
omits AXFocusedUIElement. Share the identity comparison in a small helper;
keep wait_for_focus, security checks, and text delivery unchanged.

Add unit coverage for missing app focus, conflicting recipients, absent
targets, and read failures. Register two ignored live regressions for
background/foreground selection replacement without app-level focus,
including no-click Type and Key checks. The opt-in fixture reveals app
focus after the first foreground check so existing focus waits remain real.

Address PR #141 review item 2. Before skipping background Type focus,
resolve keyboard_recipient again and require the same target identity.
If focus is missing or moved, use the existing focus() path and collapse
the selection to the end rather than replacing Cocoa's refocus selection.

Carry the updated focus state into foreground fallback as well, including
when refocusing itself requests fallback. Keep a pure decision helper with
unit coverage for unchanged, missing, different, and newly acquired focus.
The lost-focus regression failed with the old snapshot-only decision and
passes with the recipient identity check.

🟠 Major · Accept a focused target when application focus remains absent. · foreground.rs:309

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Accept a focused target when application focus remains absent.

When the target reports AXFocused=true but the application never reports AXFocusedUIElement, keyboard_target_is_focused avoids the click. wait_for_focus then times out because it reads only application-level focus. The Type action fails before text delivery. Use the same keyboard-recipient resolution for this wait, and verify that the recipient is still the intended target. The fixture’s --hide-focused-element mode demonstrates the focus state, although its raise probe makes application focus available for the foreground test.

🟡 Minor · Base selection collapse on the focus state at the click decision. · foreground.rs:318

crates/orca-computer-use/src/driver/macos/foreground.rs:318
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Base selection collapse on the focus state at the click decision.

The background Type path can retain type_target_was_focused == true and then fall back to the foreground. If the target loses focus before the foreground check, the foreground path clicks it but still skips collapse_selection_to_end(). The click collapses the selection at its click-determined caret, so text may be inserted there instead of at the end. It does not necessarily replace the selection.

Update the foreground Type path to base `should_collapse_type_selection` on
whether the target was focused when the foreground click decision was made,
rather than on the stale `type_target_was_focused` value. Preserve the existing
click behavior, and call `collapse_selection_to_end()` when the foreground path
clicks an unfocused target.

The first-round review items are addressed:

  • ec618290: transparent windows count as click occluders.
  • 996c23e2: focus checks use keyboard_recipient.
  • f7f4d243: the target is rechecked before its type focus is preserved.

On the two outside-diff comments from the second round:

  • foreground.rs:309 (wait_for_focus): not changing this. Foreground HID text delivery deliberately requires both app-level and system-level focus, so keystrokes never land in an unverified or secure field:

    • check_foreground_secure_approval refuses when the system reports no focused element.
    • verify_type_recipient(.., true) compares the system focus with the recipient.

    If wait_for_focus accepted a target that only reports AXFocused, the type would still stop at the system-focus check. Making it succeed would mean loosening that precondition. This is also not a regression: before 996c23e2, the same app made an extra click and then failed at the same wait.

  • foreground.rs:318 (collapse decision at click time): valid edge case, deferred to a follow-up PR. The suggested diff replaces the flag with already_focused. That would also stop collapsing a target the background attempt has just focused, where Cocoa may select all, so its whole content could be replaced. The follow-up will keep the selection only when the target was focused originally and is still focused at the click decision (type_target_was_focused && already_focused).
