Stacked on #461 (base guide). Merge that first, then this one retargets to dev.

What this is

The guide is two pages now. /guide keeps the first hour (01–04), and its closing card links on. /guide/make and /guide/make/ko are "Make your own", and start on a board that is already powered with Basics on it.

  • 05 Community walks the real site in six steps:

    • the wall
    • which patterns can go on a board (.h, Flashable now)
    • sending one pattern (↗ Send to my Patternflow → Send over Wi-Fi, no account)
    • your own deck in the dock
    • other people's decks
    • Open in Pattern Lab

Every screen is a crop of the live site, taken logged out. A ring marks the control the step is about, and the caption quotes the UI's own words.

  • 06 Pattern Lab has eleven steps, in the order the work happens:

    • open the Lab
    • name it first
    • ask an AI (Copy prompt → Paste, or Generate with your own Gemini key)
    • black and white is right (v-field + Color Ramp)
    • the knobs
    • the second prompt that makes the .h
    • ↗ Apply to my Patternflow
    • layers
    • Graphic Export
    • Director
    • giving it back

Layers, Graphic Export and Director are steps here, not chapters.

  • The board plays the reader's own Lab draft through the whole of 06. It reads patternflow_lab_project_v2 read-only and follows every save the Lab makes, whether in the window or in another tab. The real /pattern-lab opens in a window beside the board on desktop; on a phone it's a link.

Checked

  • Walking both pages leaves every patternflow_lab_* key byte-identical, with no data and with a saved draft. An old v1 draft is not migrated.
  • An edit in the Lab reaches the board in about 0.7 s.
  • A draft that doesn't run leaves the board on its own pattern, and the tag says the draft doesn't run yet. It does not leave the board black.
  • GPU captures of every step: desktop and phone, en and ko. Transition sweeps show no white flash.
  • The start page is identical apart from the next-guide link, checked with a DOM diff and captures.
  • npm run build passes; the four guide routes are static. tsc, eslint and vitest (123 tests) are clean.

Not checked

  • Safari, Firefox and real touch devices. Screens between 1180 and 1366 px wide were only emulated.
  • Apply → Send over Wi-Fi was never pressed on a real board, by design. The captions quote the modal's code.
  • The stage blanks for about 20 frames when moving between /guide and /guide/make: each page mounts its own canvas.

Found along the way (not changed here)

  • Deck order is lost from the dock. The dock's Send to my board → Send over Wi-Fi drops the deck's order on the board. The console's installFromUrl (firmware/patternflow/console/patterns.html) only takes .pfm and .json, so the build's catalog.txt never arrives. The guide says the order carries over for public decks and .zip only, which is true today.
  • Stale wording on the community. The pattern page's Performances note still says "Director's Save-JSON"; the Director saves .pfs.
  • Two Labs, two sets of drafts. "Open in Pattern Lab" on the community opens community.patternflow.work's Lab, which keeps drafts separate from patternflow.work's. The guide says so.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The guide is two pages now: /guide keeps the first hour (01-04) and its
closing card links on; /guide/make (and /ko) is "Make your own", starting
on a board that is already powered with Basics on it.

05 Community walks the real site: the wall, which patterns can go on a
board (.h / Flashable now), sending one pattern, your own deck in the dock,
other people's decks, and "Open in Pattern Lab". Every screen is a crop of
the live site, taken logged out, with a ring on the control the step is
about and its caption quoting the UI's own words.

06 Pattern Lab: from here the board plays the reader's own Lab draft. It
reads patternflow_lab_project_v2 read-only and follows every save the Lab
makes, in this window or another tab. The real /pattern-lab opens in a
window beside it. The steps go in the order the work happens: name it, ask
an AI, the Color Ramp, the knobs, the second prompt that makes the .h,
Apply to my Patternflow, layers, Graphic Export, Director, and giving it
back. The screens are real Lab crops.

Walking both pages leaves every patternflow_lab_* key byte-identical. A
draft that doesn't run doesn't leave the board dark. Bloom is held down
while a draft plays, so black stays black.

The console's one-click install from a link (/patterns?src=) took only
.pfm and .json from a build's file list, so the catalog.txt every deck
build carries was left behind: a deck sent from the dock landed in
alphabetical order, while the Decks page and the dock both promise the
order it was built in. A dropped zip already kept it. Both ways in now go
through one rule, installable(): catalog.txt and .pfs ride along,
performance.json stays behind.

The guide's console demo is regenerated from the page. The guide's deck
step says the order is dropped up to v3.10.4 and kept after.

build.sh all: default, audio, performance, clock, midi ok;
check_boundaries holds.

A WIP chip sits beside the brand on both guide pages: it ships while it is
still being written. The pattern page's Performances note, the performance
modal and the route's error named the Director's old "Save-JSON"; the
Director saves .pfs. CHANGELOG records the guide, the wording and the
deck-order fix.
