feat(runtime): add web chat adapter on current bus contracts - #144
Conversation
Add the target-pr35.diff file to the repository. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Add a test asserting that the web turn projector emits a text delta event carrying the client, thread and request identifiers along with the sequence number, timestamp, delta text and round. This locks in the projected JSON shape so future changes to the adapter cannot silently drop turn context. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Register a new web adapter module and re-export its channel id, adapter, sink, scope, and turn projector types alongside the existing local adapter so the runtime can serve web-based channels. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The web adapter now implements send_outcome and send_typed so callers can receive the full ChannelSendOutcome or send a canonical outbound message directly, with send delegating to send_outcome for the receipt. Inbound submission and error construction were simplified to use the envelope and unsupported helper types, and tests were updated to match. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Document the web adapter's expected behaviour and interface so implementations have a shared reference for the contract they must satisfy. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Link the web adapter specification from the spec README so the in-app chat channel documentation is discoverable alongside the other channel contracts. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Reformatted the import list and the send call chain in the web channel adapter to match rustfmt output. No behaviour change. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Add tests asserting that send_typed preserves image parts and the idempotency key through the current adapter contract, and that context_mut reaches the seq and request_id fields of the current channel bus event variants. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Replace the struct update syntax with explicit None values for reply_to_id, thread_id, and turn_id so the test constructs the message literally. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The typed send test checked the serialized part's type field, but the wire format exposes it as kind, so the assertion now matches the actual payload. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Delete the leftover target-pr35.diff file, which was an untracked scratch copy of an already-merged patch and no longer reflects the tree. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Tiny Sweeper reviewReviewed head: Verdict: Ready for maintainer review · Priority: none Diagnostics and supporting detailsFull summaryPull request purpose (title): feat(runtime): add web chat adapter on current bus contracts. The stated purpose is to port the in-app Web adapter from fork migration work onto current TinyChannels main and its canonical WebChannelEvent / ChannelOutputEvent contracts, normalizing typed chat:start input, projecting progressive output to the existing web wire, scoping events through a host sink, and preserving typed outbound parts through the current adapter send API. The full pull-request behavior adds `WebChatStart` to `crates/tinychannels-bus/src/web/types.rs` with `sender_id` and `command_authorized` marked `skip_deserializing`, adds the `adapters::web` module in `tinychannels-runtime` (adapter, inbound normalization, turn projector, sink port, each with inline-sibling tests), re-exports it from `crates/tinychannels-runtime/src/adapters/mod.rs`, and adds `docs/spec/web-adapter.md` linked from `docs/spec/README.md`. All 14 files are additions with no deletions. The description lane reports a mismatch: the description claims reconciliation with the newer `ChannelOutbound`/`ChannelEvent` web wire variants, while `ChannelEvent` is missing from the `context_mut` match arms and fails to compile. The latest-push delta is unavailable. Review snapshot
Completeness: Complete What changedAdds a new `adapters::web` module in `tinychannels-runtime`, re-exported from `crates/tinychannels-runtime/src/adapters/mod.rs`, containing the adapter, inbound normalization, turn projector, and sink port, each with inline-sibling tests. Adds `WebChatStart` to `crates/tinychannels-bus/src/web/types.rs` with `sender_id` and `command_authorized` marked `skip_deserializing` so client JSON cannot set them, plus a bus test pinning that contract. Adds `docs/spec/web-adapter.md` and links it from `docs/spec/README.md`. The latest-push-delta evidence is unavailable: the prior reviewed head and current head differ, but no trusted base-to-head diff comparison exists, so this describes the whole pull-request diff only. Add tests asserting that a failed terminal output or host event keeps its sequence number until delivery succeeds, and that anonymous submissions are not command-authorized while a client-supplied sender id cannot override the authenticated sender. Also update the proactive send test to expect no platform message ids in the receipt. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Add a test asserting that deserializing a WebChatStart from client input drops senderId and commandAuthorized, so a browser cannot forge them, while the host can still set both fields explicitly. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Introduce a host-normalized WebChatStart request type in the bus crate so sender identity and command authorization are set by the host after authentication and never accepted from client wire input. Terminal turn state is now removed only after the projected events are successfully published, and host-authored terminal events also clear their turn, so a failed delivery no longer drops sequence state. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The web inbound adapter no longer references QueueMode, so the import was removed and the test module now imports it directly where it is still needed. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Extend the oversized subagent output test to also set oversized arguments and assert that the projected args are capped and marked as truncated, matching the existing output checks. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The oversized subagent output test no longer sets oversized arguments or asserts that the projected args are truncated, leaving only the output capping checks. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Add tests asserting that same-turn publishes reach the sink in sequence order and that a failed terminal publication leaves projector state intact. Also cover rejection of content parts the web adapter does not declare and resolution of the thread id from a conversation reference on proactive sends. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Renamed the `tinyhumans_bus` crate references to `tinychannels_bus` in the proactive typed send test so it compiles against the current crate name. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Publishing now holds a per-adapter lock so sequence assignment and sink delivery stay in one order, and a turn's projector is only dropped after its terminal event is delivered. Outbound parts are checked against the content the web adapter declares, and proactive messages fall back to the conversation thread id when the intent's thread id is blank. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The review's two actionable findings are fixed: terminal projector state is removed only after successful sink publication, and authenticated sender/command authority are host-assigned. I verified both in the current branch, added regression coverage, resolved all inline threads, and requested re-review; CodeRabbit is currently rate-limited, so the stale changes-requested vote cannot be refreshed.

Add tests asserting that send_typed rejects an empty parts list with BadFormat without publishing, that capabilities report thread addressing for dms, and that completed subagent output is included in detail and capped at the web payload limit. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The test fixture now spells out the optional reference fields instead of relying on struct update syntax, keeping it compiling as the message struct gains fields. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The web adapter now advertises its addressing capabilities, reporting direct-message conversations and thread-id support so callers can route accordingly. Typed outbound messages with no content parts are rejected as a bad-format error instead of being sent, and subagent progress details expose the captured output once the subagent has completed. The web adapter spec now states that every request must carry a nonempty client_id, thread_id and request_id, rather than only anonymous requests needing a client_id. For anonymous requests the client_id continues to serve as the sender identity. Auto-committed-on: cuttlefish Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Summary
Port the in-app Web adapter from the fork migration work onto current TinyChannels
mainand its canonical WebChannelEvent / ChannelOutputEvent contracts. The adapter normalizes typedchat:startinput, projects progressive output to the existing web wire, scopes events through a host sink, and preserves typed outbound parts through the current adapter send API.The implementation uses the transport-free
WebChatStartrequest fromtinychannels-bus. Sender identity and command authorization are host-authoritative; anonymous submissions are not command-authorized, and client JSON cannot set either field. Terminal turn state is retained until sink delivery succeeds, and outbound receipts leave provider message IDs empty when the sink supplies no ID.The implementation is reconciled with current
ChannelInboundSink::push(ChannelInboundEnvelope), receipt-onlysend,send_outcome, andsend_typedAPIs. It also handles the newerChannelOutboundandChannelEventweb wire variants when mutating event context. Existing web wire goldens remain covered.Validation
