fix(sdk): preserve package replacements and physical workspace scopes - #1548
Conversation
Keep installation snapshots until fresh runtime loading, activation and contribution persistence finish. Restore rejected replacements without losing the previous package or exact managed/settings content. Record settings compensation through workspace history and retain ignored recovery backups with executable commands when restoration itself fails. Carry preservation receipts through multi-target and bundled CLI installs. Retain disabled package version diagnostics as advisory health findings with scoped remediation. Enabled incompatible packages still fail closed. Resolve physical workspace ancestry before rendering literal tracker cache exclusions, including aliases and missing descendants, while preserving external-root refusals and every sibling tracker scope. Add SDK, CLI, real Git and filesystem-fault regression coverage; publish the additive rollback error contract and regenerated discovery surfaces; bind the new failure family to executable recurrence checks. Record all-status intake, GitHub reports, dependency policy and release/observability evidence through pm. Work items: pm-c9wz5ef4ulnv, pm-5xn8we1wue0m, pm-p8s5k7e6lhda. The collection-argument UX report is tracked separately by pm-t2dqzijokl31. Validation: strict typecheck, 55 focused SDK/CLI cases, 83 repaired full-run checks, linked item regressions and tracker-context assurance pass. Native platform and complete source-coverage acceptance run on the pushed candidate.
Split Linux Node 22/25 into two partitions and Linux Node 24 coverage and Windows Node 24 into four. Preserve complete native test membership, the serial project, every assertion and retry, and the existing 20-minute bound. Require all native partitions before merging all coverage blobs and enforcing unchanged exact global coverage thresholds. Keep original failures and retired families in reliability evidence, including a missing aggregate as pending. Register the aggregate pipeline and replacement Windows checks in recurrence policy. Add executable unsuccessful-outcome controls and partition contracts. Expose typed package-install preservation and discriminated rollback receipts through public SDK entrypoints. Document reserved diagnostic fields and the migration for constructed results, with explicit SDK surface acknowledgement and consumer type fixtures. This changes declarations without changing emitted executable install behavior. Track bounded execution in pm-gxq0dt alongside the package and workspace lifecycle items. Record local positive and unchanged-main negative controls, complete file partition proof, native timeout evidence and typed SDK checks.

Explanation
The reviewed head implements the coding requirements for
#1545and#1546. Replacement verification preserves or restores the package tree and managed state, reports typed preservation and rollback details, retains recovery data on rollback failure, and has integration, unit, and type tests. Disabled compatibility findings are advisory, while enabled findings remain blocking, with remediation and health tests. For#1544and#1477, the issue text gives investigation and release-trust instructions, not additional coding acceptance criteria. The nightly workflow and contract tests still add bounded native partitions, complete-matrix admission, strict aggregate coverage, and post-admission alerts.

Register the new allocation item and its completed macOS predecessor in a precise recurrence family. Require the complete native partition population and strict global coverage aggregate, retaining unchanged-main negative controls and zero escape tolerance. Static assurance correctly caught this missing lineage; the corrected evidence gate and 17 registry/evidence tests pass without exemptions or threshold changes. Record the new search enum-recovery example under its canonical open recovery corpus, assess the source cause of the macOS issue separately from allocation, and retain the qualified local CLI startup refusal as evidence in the existing performance item. Preserve reviewer quota and comparison limitations rather than treat unavailable reviews or different-runner timing as approval.

Close and release the three SDK/workspace defects with immutable resolution, expected behavior and observed outcomes. All 14 native partitions pass under the original 20-minute limit; all 11,029 executed tests and the exact global 100/100/100/100 coverage aggregate pass. Retain the old quality failure and its corrected recurrence registration as separate evidence. Generate and verify the three real changelog entries with the latest published pm-changelog package. Record successful npm/npx and Bun/bunx packed consumer workflows, linked positive and unchanged-main negative controls, public SDK types, graph and integrity assertions and bounded mutation results. Keep the allocation item active for complete revised-head validation and review. Link its completed prior allocation owner rather than increasing the prose-gap ceiling. Preserve the qualified local startup refusals in the existing open performance item and the observed CodSpeed runtime comparison limitation.
…estry Climb initialization ancestry only for ENOENT, so a regular file in a tracker path cannot produce impossible cache-exclusion rules. Preserve existing ignore bytes on refusal. When installation and rollback both fail, retain the initial error as a native-style non-enumerable cause and expose its typed original_code in the serialized context. Keep the rollback code and generic exit status. Guard aggregate nightly alerts on successful shard admission so native failures retain only their correct platform/shard alert rather than a duplicate Linux coverage alert. Correct the documented recovery example and current Windows hosted-check identities through CLI-authored tracker mutations. Add real filesystem and typed/untyped error regression controls, public consumer types, and eight scheduled/manual aggregate-alert admission cases. The identical pre-review control fails six assertions; all 40 SDK and 67 workflow/reliability cases pass after the fixes. Track these review-caught boundaries in pm-4vymxc, with full revised-head hosted validation still required before closure.

Windows can report a file descendant as missing, allowing ENOENT-only ancestry climbing to reach a regular file. Verify the resolved ancestor's directory type before reattaching any missing suffix and preserve structural ENOTDIR refusal. This prevents invalid tracker roots from creating or modifying ignore rules on every supported filesystem rather than relying on one platform's errno. Extend real filesystem controls to direct-file tracker roots as well as file descendants, with and without an existing ignore file. The pre-change control fails two assertions; all 42 linked SDK cases, four TypeScript projects, focused lint and generated contract checks pass after the correction. Retain the distinct original Windows reader-guard failure and its successful single unchanged CI retry. No assertion deadline, retry policy or coverage threshold changes. Keep pm-4vymxc and pm-gxq0dt active for native acceptance.

Current-head hosted follow-through for Independent bounded Linux source checks on this head pass all four direct-file/nested-file ancestry cases with and without an existing The existing pm-4vymxc owner already requires contract checks and revised-head native validation. Acceptance: reconcile the generated SDK snapshot with the intentional ENOTDIR refusal and rerun the unchanged public-surface gate plus native acceptance; preserve the directory check and regression controls rather than suppressing the gate. The full current-head native run remains pending. 13:57 UTC follow-through: the same ENOTDIR snapshot drift also explains Gates (static), Windows scripts 1/2, Ubuntu 24 nightly shard 2/4, and Ubuntu 25 nightly shard 1/2. Regenerate the semantic SDK surface receipt after adding the native ENOTDIR refusal for invalid initialization ancestry. The generator records one additive emitted-error value; declarations, compatibility acknowledgements, vocabulary filters and thresholds retain their existing policy. Link and run the SDK surface script suite alongside the real filesystem and rollback regressions so future guard changes detect receipt drift locally. All 42 SDK cases and 17 surface-script cases pass, with the generated surface check current. Record the completed full CodeRabbit review with no additional actionable comments and retain all earlier native failures as evidence.

Close and release the nightly allocation and review-remediation items with immutable expected and actual evidence from complete native validation at 744a4c9: all platform partitions pass within the existing deadlines, 11,035 tests pass, and the aggregate enforces exact 100-percent coverage. Generate the remaining two change entries with current pm-changelog 2026.10.21 and retain the original failed runs, Windows timing evidence, local startup refusals, and unavailable optional review providers as separate claims rather than treating them as repaired reliability history. Record the independently reproduced GH-1549 mutation lease overwrite under its canonical open, unclaimed item, with its lock, checkpoint, throughput, and parent lineage. All five implemented lifecycle items are closed and released; the new fencing report remains explicit follow-up work.

Document the three touched private helpers missing contract comments in the review coverage report: multi-target install receipt aggregation, physical entry and host-version scanning, and deduplicated health remedies. Reuse the canonical semantic-documentation item for this scoped pass, record its three successful sandboxed linked commands and syntax-preservation proof, and release it back to open because repository-wide filler replacement remains unfinished. All three executable TypeScript syntax trees match the previous fully reviewed and natively validated source. Keep the user-requested report intake and tracker evidence in the grouped delivery. Generated changelog checking, SDK surface checking, focused lint, and graph/history-integrity assurance pass without changing their policy.

Package replacement verification could discard a working installation before activation finished. Replacements now keep the previous package tree and exact managed/settings state until verification succeeds. A failed replacement restores that state; a failed rollback retains a recoverable backup and exposes typed recovery details plus the original failure code and non-enumerable cause. Multi-package receipts preserve the same evidence.
Disabled package compatibility findings are advisory in health and doctor, while enabled incompatibilities still fail admission. Workspace cache exclusions now resolve physical directory ancestry before containment checks, preserve literal Git ignore patterns, and refuse file ancestors without changing ignore bytes on Linux, macOS, or Windows.
Complete nightly validation now uses 14 explicit native partitions within the existing 20-minute limits. The aggregate accepts only a successful complete matrix, merges all four coverage blobs, and enforces exact 100% statements, branches, functions, and lines with zero uncovered counts. Aggregate alerts require successful admission so native failures do not create a duplicate Linux alert. Reliability measurements retain retired families and original failed attempts.
The requested scope also includes the live GitHub/PM, dependency, release and observability census, canonical follow-ups, and reviewed closure evidence. Those tracker updates belong to this grouped delivery.
Tracking and closure evidence:
Validation:
SDK migration: reserved details.previous_state_preserved and details.rollback are now typed optional receipt fields; constructors and test doubles using those keys must match the boolean/discriminated recovery shape. PmCliErrorContext.original_code is additive and optional. The generated emitted-error vocabulary includes ENOTDIR.
Independent open work remains explicit: pm-gh1549 records a reproduced stale mutation lease overwrite, and pm-bj7rq0 retains qualified local startup misses and unrelated Windows timing failures. This delivery does not claim those are fixed or erase historical Release Reliability failures. Today's published 2026.10.22 predates these changes; the next eligible daily release will include them.
