fix(sdk): make saved context explicit in agent workflows - #1582
Programmatic creates now ignore saved CLI focus unless callers explicitly opt in. Importers, sync jobs, hosted services and recursive agents therefore get the hierarchy they requested. The CLI keeps focused creation by default for both create and plan create, with explicit controls; parent, template and unset-parent precedence remain intact. SDK consumers that intentionally used saved focus should pass inheritFocus: true.
Successful context-signal refreshes now serve the rebuilt data without asking for a redundant read. Cache status remains observable, and corrupt state or failed persistence retains actionable diagnostics. The existing warning descriptor stays exported for compatibility.
pm-gh1577: SDK/CLI/MCP focus policy, scheduling compatibility, public types, schema, help and contract coverage.
pm-gh1581: successful refresh diagnostics and retained failure controls.
pm-greptile370: release-age eligible Greptile 3.7.0; one package replacement with unchanged supported Node floor.
The strict create, plan, meet, event and remind contracts all declare optional boolean focus policy. The additive strict/provider versions are 4.23.0/1.12.0. Full create receipts identify focus provenance; full plan results expose the effective parent as plan.parent. New tracker references work from packaged documentation through canonical URLs with adjacent exclusion notices. The queued public-surface programme records package-manifest-aware link validation and the separately observed core/workspace hosted-schema identity drift.
Validation: the final head passes 11,232 tests with three platform skips and exact 100/100/100/100 source coverage. All required hosted checks are green, including native Windows, packed consumers, security, docs, static quality and strict types. DeepScan reports zero new issues; CodeFactor reports zero annotations or new issues on the exact commit, with strict protection verified. The 111 linked assertions plus documentation links pass locally. Independent strict-schema and activated-calendar regressions fail before their fixes; real persistence covers all policy cases. Node/Bun SDK consumers and packed npm/npx/Bun/bunx acceptance cover the nine default packages. Registry/OSV, secret, graph and history checks pass. The maintained documentation generator decreases the filler inventory by one without relaxing a quality threshold. CodeRabbit completed a fresh full review of the final head with no actionable comments, and all six inline threads are resolved. Sourcery quota and Greptile trial availability are separate limitations.
Release boundary: automatic v2026.10.25 predates this implementation. Its public npm/npx/bunx/MCP and npm/Bun installed-agent acceptance pass independently. The package-generated changelog correctly keeps these three delivered items under Unreleased for a later eligible cut; the existing tag does not publish this PR. A clean read-only release preview returns release_already_cut_today and exactly v2026.10.25 while these later changes are present.
Default SDK, MCP and direct scheduling creates to ignoring saved CLI focus.
Expose inheritFocus on the typed public contract and explicit CLI controls,
while retaining CLI and calendar-command convenience. Preserve explicit,
template and unset-parent precedence, stored hierarchy and focus receipts.
Keep machine-help requiredness intact and fit the new controls within the
existing help-token ceiling; account for exactly two new canonical flags.
Treat successful context-signal refreshes as ordinary maintenance. Serve the
rebuilt candidates immediately and retain cache status, corruption recovery,
write-failure warnings and the legacy exported warning descriptor.
Adopt release-age eligible Greptile 3.7.0 with one dependency replacement and
no supported Node-floor or unrelated resolution change. Record new GitHub
intake and the independently observed prose-coupled help-metadata enhancement
under existing PM lineage without claiming queued work as implemented.
Include SDK/schema/help contracts, docs, regression controls, immutable PM
closure evidence and the package-generated changelog in the reviewed bundle.
The complete suite passes 11,227 tests with three platform skips and exact
100/100/100/100 source coverage. Static quality, strict types, linked PM tests,
Node/Bun consumers, packed npm/npx/Bun/bunx and security checks pass.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Create and plan commands let you control whether saved focus is used as the parent. CLI commands inherit focus by default; SDK and MCP operations require explicit opt-in. Explicit parent settings take precedence, and CLI users can disable inheritance with --no-inherit-focus or --parent none.
Scheduling shortcuts support an inheritFocus option to opt into saved focus.
Updated Greptile review tooling to version 3.7.0.
Bug Fixes
Successful context refreshes no longer show a stale-data warning. Cache status remains available, and warnings are retained for corrupted data or failed saves.
The PR makes saved-focus inheritance explicit across CLI, SDK, and MCP create and plan operations. It removes stale warnings after successful context-snapshot rebuilds. It also updates Greptile and project-management records.

The PR separates CLI’s focused-create convenience from SDK, MCP, importer, sync, hosted, and recursive programmatic workflows by adding explicit focus inheritance controls and preserving parent precedence, while simplifying successful context-signal refresh diagnostics so rebuilt data is served immediately and only corruption or persistence failures produce warnings; documentation, contracts, regression coverage, release metadata, and Greptile tooling are updated accordingly.

Made saved-focus inheritance explicit across programmatic create paths while preserving CLI convenience and precedence rules.
Added typed inheritFocus support to SDK lifecycle options, client APIs, scheduling shortcuts, MCP/tool schemas, and CLI contracts.
Changed SDK/MCP defaults to ignore session focus; CLI defaults to inherit it, with --inherit-focus and --no-inherit-focus controls.
Preserved explicit parent, template-derived parent, and unset parent precedence, and updated scheduling command wrappers to opt into legacy CLI behavior.
Documented the policy, migration guidance, public surface, help metadata, and contract/grammar counts.
Added regression coverage for SDK, MCP, CLI, explicit-parent, unset-parent, and scheduling behavior.
Do not emit a warning or recommend a redundant second read when a stale context-signal snapshot is successfully rebuilt and the current response uses the rebuilt data.
Keep actionable diagnostics for context-signal corruption or refresh failures, while retaining cache-status observability.

Keep saved-focus inheritance enabled for CLI plan creation while leaving
SDK and MCP plan creation opt-in through the typed inheritFocus option.
Expose matching positive and negative CLI flags and align the tool schema,
generated contracts, SDK snapshot and documentation. Preserve the existing
positional requiredness and help-token ceiling without spare flag allowance.
Delegate parent normalization and dependency edges to the shared create
primitive so an explicit no-parent value does not become a dangling pm-none
dependency. Cover default, positive, negative and explicit-parent CLI cases
alongside omitted, false and true SDK policy values using real persistence.
Verify that operation policy inside whole-item stdin JSON is rejected before
mutation; the item-document protocol remains metadata-only. The regression
fails on the prior head for lost CLI plan focus, then passes after the fix.
Both linked PM test commands and all 66 focused review tests pass. The full
static quality pipeline and typecheck pass. The initial implementation passed
11,227 tests with three skips and exact 100/100/100/100 source coverage; the
revised PR head must pass hosted coverage and receive a fresh external review.

Use canonical GitHub URLs for the three new focus and context-refresh tracker

The docs are shipped while the tracker issue records are excluded, so repository

Declare inheritFocus on the strict meet, event and remind action schemas so
clients can discover the optional boolean already honored by the SDK dispatcher.
Version the additive strict/provider surface as 4.23.0/1.12.0 and regenerate
contracts, capability data and the public SDK compatibility snapshot.
The independent contract regression fails on the prior head because meet omits
the field. Cover all five focus-enabled creation schemas and verify omitted,
false and true values through both flat and nested scheduling calls using real
temporary persistence. Assert effective parents in full plan receipts and name
create provenance separately from plan.parent in the documentation.
Consolidate overlapping linked commands into one 107-test suite plus the docs
gate, retaining prior history and run receipts. Both pass, along with typecheck
and the complete static pipeline. The previous implementation passed 11,229
tests with three skips and exact 100/100/100/100 coverage; the revised head must
pass hosted coverage and receive fresh requested reviews before merge.
Record structured canonical closure evidence, release the claim, and generate
and check the changelog through pm-changelog. Record the independently observed
hosted-schema scope/identity drift under the existing consistency programme as
queued follow-up work.
Incorporate the generated 2026.10.25 main baseline while preserving the new
SDK focus policy, scheduling schemas, full receipt documentation and review
regressions. Refresh deterministic contracts against the actual package version
and document the touched helpers' policy and relationship ownership.
Verify the 107-test consolidated linked suite, documentation gate, typecheck
and complete static pipeline on the merged baseline. Record structured PM
closure and release ownership before the final review push.
Regenerate the changelog through pm-changelog. Keep the three newly delivered
items under Unreleased because the immutable 2026.10.25 tag predates this
implementation. The actual automatic release and public npm/npx/bunx/MCP and
npm/Bun installed-agent acceptance pass independently of the new source work.

Apply the calendar command default after caller options and narrow the
generic option before invoking the typed SDK. Omitted and explicitly
undefined policy keep CLI focus convenience; explicit false remains an
opt-out, and direct SDK operations retain their explicit opt-in policy.
Add an activated-package regression over real temporary persistence for

Programmatic creates now ignore saved CLI focus unless callers explicitly opt in. Importers, sync jobs, hosted services and recursive agents therefore get the hierarchy they requested. The CLI keeps focused creation by default for both
createandplan create, with explicit controls; parent, template and unset-parent precedence remain intact. SDK consumers that intentionally used saved focus should passinheritFocus: true.Successful context-signal refreshes now serve the rebuilt data without asking for a redundant read. Cache status remains observable, and corrupt state or failed persistence retains actionable diagnostics. The existing warning descriptor stays exported for compatibility.
The strict create, plan, meet, event and remind contracts all declare optional boolean focus policy. The additive strict/provider versions are 4.23.0/1.12.0. Full create receipts identify focus provenance; full plan results expose the effective parent as
plan.parent. New tracker references work from packaged documentation through canonical URLs with adjacent exclusion notices. The queued public-surface programme records package-manifest-aware link validation and the separately observed core/workspace hosted-schema identity drift.Validation: the final head passes 11,232 tests with three platform skips and exact 100/100/100/100 source coverage.
