An append-only timeline of who changed a Headless CMS entry, when, and which fields — recorded per
save, never per revision, and never holding a content value.

Two new packages, @webiny/api-activity-log and @webiny/app-activity-log, plus a description
field on the permission renderer so a permission can state its own scope. Both are wired into the
default bundles — registerApiRequestStack on the API side, app-serverless-cms's Admin on the
admin side — so the feature is on, subject to item 1 below.

The four properties, and where each one lives

Per save, not per revision. Capture hangs off the CMS's own after-events — twelve of them, one
thin handler each — so a record is written every time a save lands, not once per version. A single
revision routinely holds many saves by several people over days, which is the whole reason the
admin timeline groups by revision rather than listing revisions.

No content values, ever. A changeset entry is { path, label, operation? }. Editors compare
versions to see values; the timeline says only what moved. hasNote records that a reviewer
attached an approval or rejection comment without recording the comment, which is author-written
free text about the content and the field most likely to hold something sensitive.

Deep field paths. author.name for nested objects, sections#a1b2c3d4e5f6 for an item in a
repeatable object, [n] for a positional one. The differ descends into objects, lists and dynamic
zones, keying on stable item ids where they exist and falling back to a three-pass match where they
do not. Beyond a cap the changeset rolls up to a common parent and sets truncated.

Permanent retention. Records are immutable and there is no TTL. append, list and
deleteAllForTarget are the whole storage surface; there is no update. The one deletion path is
cleanup after an entry is permanently destroyed, run as a background task so that recording and
cleanup fail independently.

Shape

  • core/ — the record shape, the storage interface, the differ, path encoding. No CMS
concepts. Hashing runs inside the differ and is never persisted.
  • storage/privateModel/ — the only implementation, behind ActivityLogStorage. A parameterised
conformance suite written against the interface and nothing else proves a replacement satisfies
the same contract; it runs green on ddb and sql.
  • cms/recorder/ — one ActivityWriter owning actor resolution, source labelling, correlation
ids, persistence and failure containment. Both recorders sit on it.
  • cms/capture/, cms/review/ — the event handlers. Coverage guards assert the handler set
against the CMS and APW sources, so a new after-event upstream fails a test rather than silently
    going unrecorded.
  • features/listActivity/ — the read path, with authorisation ordered so it cannot leak
existence and the target's real model validated against the supplied modelId after resolution.
  • app-activity-log/ — the admin timeline, with every shaping decision in pure functions and
hooks and the components reduced to presentation, for a design handover.

Captured

Create, update, revision create, revision delete, revision describe, publish, unpublish, republish,
move, trash, restore, delete. Plus publishing workflow activity: review submitted, step started,
step approved, step rejected, step taken over, review cancelled, review approved, review rejected,
review deleted.

Actor comes from the ambient identity only. Every *By meta field on an entry is settable through
the manage API, so an entry's own account of who saved it is client-controlled and cannot underpin
an audit trail. source distinguishes a hand-clicked publish from a scheduled one, which identity
alone cannot: background tasks impersonate the user who started them.

Read authorisation

Two global permissions. activityLog.timeline grants the timeline; activityLog.actor grants actor
identity, and without it actors are redacted rather than the records withheld. Both are additional
to entry read access, never implied by it. plans/entry-activity-log-read-authorisation.md carries
the full proposal and the reasoning behind the revision join.

Tests

523 tests. 434 in api-activity-log — green on both ddb and sql — and 89 in app-activity-log.

The differ carries the bulk of it, because that is where the subtle failures live. Two things are
worth pointing at specifically:

  • The capture integration tests were verified by breaking the code they cover. Removing the
private-model filter makes twelve of the fourteen hang rather than fail, which is the recursion
the filter prevents: a record is itself an entry in a private model, so recording one produces
another. Removing failure containment from both the writer and the recorder fails exactly the two
tests that claim a save survives a broken recorder, and nothing else.
  • The eight UI states are executable acceptance criteria, asserting only that each renders and
that one distinguishing statement reaches the reader — nothing about layout, which the design
handover will replace. If a design pass silently drops a state, it fails here rather than leaving
a gap nobody notices until a customer hits it.

One deliberate rule in there is easy to mistake for a bug and then "simplify" away: consecutive
saves by two redacted actors are never collapsed into one row.
Merging them would assert the two
saves were by the same person, which is exactly what the redaction withholds.

Accepted costs and open items

All of these are decisions rather than defects. They are in one place because a reviewer needs the
accepted costs together, not scattered through the diff.

1. The tier gate is not entitlement-driven, at two sites

The feature is switched on, and both switches are hard-coded:
registerApiRequestStack calls ActivityLogAppFeature.register(container, { enabled: true }), and
app-serverless-cms mounts <ActivityLog /> with no flag check. Those two lines are the sites a
real entitlement replaces.

Neither reads a feature flag, and the reason changed under us mid-build. It used to be that a lookup
could not work: a name absent from LICENSE_CHECKS resolved to true for anyone holding any
licence, so isEnabled("activityLog") would have gated nothing while reading exactly like a gate
that works. #5695 removed that in api-core — an unrecognised name is now the project's own flag
and answers false unless the config sets it true — so a lookup on the API side would now be safe.

It was only fixed in one place. packages/project carries two more copies of the same decorator
(GetFeatureFlagsWithLicense and GetProjectConfigService/LicenseDecoratedFeatureFlags), and both
still return !isExplicitlyDisabled(name) for any name outside LICENSE_CHECKS whenever a licence
exists. On that path an undeclared flag still reads as enabled. Worth knowing for whoever closes
this gate: the runtime and the CLI would currently disagree about the same flag name.

It still would not be an entitlement. A project-configured flag makes the feature opt-in per
installation; it does not make it something Webiny can sell, because nothing on the licence governs
it. Reading one here would trade an explicit decision at the call site for an implicit "off" that
looks like a tier gate and is not one. So enabled stays a required parameter with no default: the
feature cannot switch itself on, and the missing entitlement stays visible.

Closing it needs activityLog in IFeatureFlagsDto, KnownFeatureFlag and FeatureFlags.toDto();
canUseActivityLog() on ILicense, License, NullLicense and ReactLicense; an ACTIVITY_LOG
entry in PROJECT_PACKAGE_FEATURE_NAME, WCP_FEATURE_LABEL and ProjectPackageFeatures; and the
flag in all three LICENSE_CHECKS maps. Five packages. It also cannot evaluate true until WCP issues
features.activityLog, which is outside this repository. Never canUseAuditLogs — reusing that
entitlement would tie this feature to enterprise permanently, and business tier is intended.

2. Stable item ids are a declared dependency

Stable item _ids do not exist on next; they arrive with the forward-merge from
release/6.5.0.

  • Fully tested now: id matching, id churn, reordering and the longest-order-preserving
subsequence, as differ unit tests over synthetic values carrying _id. The differ is a pure
function over two value trees, so none of it waits on the server minting ids.
  • Not integration testable until the forward-merge: capture of a change to an item inside a
    repeatable object
through a real entry write. Entries on next carry no ids for the differ to
match on, so the integration suite asserts the id-less path — a nested object path
(author.name) is covered end to end, an id-keyed item path is not.
  • Re-run once it lands: the entry-write integration suite, plus one case that only becomes
reachable then — an entry saved before the change and re-saved after it, exercising the
    absent-to-present transition against real data.

Absent ids are not a temporary condition to be worked around and deleted later. Every entry written
before the change carries no ids until its next save, so the install stays a mixture indefinitely.
The absent-to-present transition must read as identity being established, never as every item
being replaced
— if it read as replacement, the first save of every pre-upgrade entry would emit
a junk record claiming the whole entry was rewritten. That case has its own named differ test.

3. The private model's read cost

The per-target query reads the entire model on every page view: measured at 100k items and 202 MB to
return 50 records, with page position making no difference, against a Lambda configured with 1 GB
and 30 seconds. Accepted knowingly. The narrow storage interface is the mitigation and a lighter
mechanism is the fix.

4. The OpenSearch write cost

On a DynamoDB-and-OpenSearch deployment every activity record additionally becomes a stream-table
write, a stream event, a Lambda invocation and an indexed document — permanently, for records never
queried through OpenSearch. Per-model indexing cannot be disabled: the CmsModelOpenSearchIndex
hook returns only settings and a sharing flag with no way to decline, and the tenant index factory
opts private models in by default. This sits beside the read cost rather than below it: unlike the
read cost it appears on a customer's bill every month rather than only under load.

5. The storage swap — what is not behind the abstraction

The interface makes the data path swappable and the conformance suite proves a replacement satisfies
it. These parts sit outside it and will need work at swap time, listed so whoever does it inherits
the list rather than rediscovering it.

  • Private model registration. ActivityRecordModel is a CMS ModelFactory registered by
ActivityLogAppFeature. A different store makes it dead weight, but removing it has to be
sequenced against the records already in it — dropping the registration first orphans them where
nothing can reach them, because the reader is already pointed elsewhere.
  • The adapter-private ordering key. sequence exists because this backend needs a unique,
lexicographically ordered sort key. A replacement will have its own notion of order and its own
cursor format; neither is part of the contract and neither transfers.
  • Deployment and upgrade. A dedicated table or index does not exist: it needs Pulumi
infrastructure, and existing installations need it created on upgrade. There is no migration
framework on next, so records already in the private model must either be moved by a one-off
task or knowingly abandoned — and permanent retention means abandoning them discards the very
history the feature exists to keep.
  • Chunk sizing in the purge task. MAX_DELETE_PASSES is tuned to a backend whose every page
costs a full model read. A store with real pagination wants a different bound, and the task's
timeout budget was chosen against the current cost.
  • Read authorisation. Not a storage concern in any implementation. Private models set
authorization: false, so the current store enforces nothing, and the read path must not assume a
    future store will either.

6. The conformance suite is a requirement for any future adapter, not a nicety

__tests__/conformance/storageConformance.ts is written against the interface and knows no CMS
concept whatsoever. Two rules keep it honest as a portability check: never inspect a cursor, and
never assume a write is visible before append resolves. A second implementation must run this file
unchanged and green before it replaces the first — that is what makes the swap verified rather than
assumed. It already found two defects in the current adapter, including a sort key that was silently
non-monotonic.

7. The workflow premises in the brief were void, and were corrected

The brief described APW as it was at 5.44. packages/api-apw no longer exists and
ApwContentReviewContent has zero occurrences on this branch; APW is now api-workflows plus
api-headless-cms-workflows over a wbyWorkflowState private CMS model. A reviewer comparing code
to brief would otherwise conclude the implementation drifted — the brief predated the rewrite.
Four corrections, each verified in source:

  1. One hop, not two. targetId and targetRevisionId sit directly on the workflow state.
  2. There are events for the review actions, which the brief said there were not.
  3. Capture subscribes to the action events, not to afterUpdate — the opposite of the brief's
mechanism. afterUpdate is published only by UpdateWorkflowStateUseCase, and approve, reject,
start and take-over all inject the repository directly and bypass it. Diffing afterUpdate
would have missed every step transition, which is essentially the entire review.
  4. Change requests and sign-off are dropped, not approximated. Both were api-apw concepts with
nothing on this branch to map them onto.

8. Website Builder review targets are a product decision, not a defect

A workflow can be attached to a Website Builder page. Capture skips those targets and logs that it
did
, rather than passing over them silently, so the gap reads as a decision. Recording them needs
a target type beyond cms-entry, which the record shape already carries from the start precisely so
that adding one needs no data migration. Whether to record them is a product call.

9. The frequency-and-timing caveat on changed paths

For a reader who can already read the entry, the changed-path list mostly discloses nothing new:
model structure is fully visible through GraphQL introspection, and version compare already shows
both paths and values between revisions. One thing is genuinely new and worth naming — the
timeline aggregates change frequency and timing across revisions in a single view, which no
existing surface offers. "Salary changed three times this week, twice by the same person" is not
derivable from the schema and is tedious to reconstruct from revision compare. That is a behavioural
signal about people, not about content.

Mitigated in the order that matters: activityLog.timeline is a separate grant, so the aggregation
is not handed to everyone who can read content; the changeset filter closes the specific case once
AACL implements field permissions; and "no values, ever" already means the timeline cannot say what
the value became. Not a reason to hold the feature — but the changed-path list should not be
described as "information already available" without this caveat.

10. ForceDeleteDecorator is a capture gap

When force: true is passed and the entry is already gone, the decorator calls storage operations
directly to clean up orphaned records, bypassing the use case and therefore the delete event. Those
deletions are not recorded. Deliberate: the path exists to clean up after a failed delete, and
recording a deletion whose entry no longer exists would put a record on a timeline nothing can
reach.

11. The churn rule's boundary arrives with the forward-merge

The churn rule recognises a new id whose content survived. When content changed too and both sides
carry ids
, nothing is left to match on and the block reports as removed plus added. This is not
current behaviour: it takes effect only once stable ids exist on both sides, so it arrives with the
forward-merge. Until then the positional zip covers the same case, because at least one side always
lacks an id.

12. No persisted hash per changed field — a departure from the brief

The reasoning, so it can be revisited if revert detection is ever specified: nothing reads a stored
hash across records, because an empty changeset already signals a no-op save; a stored hash leaks a
low-cardinality field's new value, which the changeset entry leaks anyway for the lowest-cardinality
fields (recording that a boolean changed states its new value); and the only consumer that needs
persistence — detecting a revert to a previous value — is unspecified. Hashing itself is unaffected
and still runs inside the differ.

This is a one-way door for records written in the meantime. A hash cannot be computed
retroactively from a record that never stored one, so adding hashes later would give revert
detection only from that point onward. Accepted.

13. Two interpreters of model structure

toFieldDescriptors reads the model directly rather than through ModelToAstConverter, which needs
the GraphQL field-type registry that capture cannot rely on. The drift risk is covered by an
agreement test pinning both to the same field structure on a representative model, skipped with a
warning if the registry ever stops building standalone.

14. The cursor fix is a worked example of an already-filed defect

The offset cursor replaced in this adapter is the same defect class as the pre-existing entry-list
cursor issue, which is out of scope here — encodeCursor(start + limit) against
slice(start, end), emitted even when the result set is exhausted. On an append-only log read newest-first it produces a
duplicate on nearly every paged read. The keyset approach here — a unique monotonic sort key plus
_lt, and a cursor returned only when another page exists — is a worked example for anyone taking
that on, on a dataset where the instability is unmissable rather than intermittent.

Out of scope

Content values in any form. Model-level change tracking. Website Builder pages and templates, File
Manager versions. Comments. Entry views, locks, exports. A source registry or plugin system.
api-headless-cms-pg-os — not benchmarked, not supported, not considered.

Two pre-existing defects were surfaced and are not fixed here, per the brief: the entry-list
offset cursor described in item 14, and EmptyTrashBinTaskDefinition swallowing a persistently
failing delete so its cleanup loop re-reads the same page until the timeout check breaks it. The
second is why deleteAllForTarget reports progress rather than only success or failure — a caller
has to be able to tell finished from more-remain from broken.

Deferred pending a separate decision: capturing scheduling an entry and cancelling a
schedule. A scheduled publish executing is in scope and covered; the two scheduling actions
themselves are not, because neither reaches the target entry as an event.

Checkpoint 2 of the entry activity log build. Adds the API package with the
target-agnostic core and one replaceable storage implementation.

- ActivityLogStorage: append / list / deleteAllForTarget, and nothing else.
The private CMS model behind it is a known stopgap, so the interface is
  deliberately narrow enough to swap.
- Record shape carries target type from the start, though it is always
cms-entry in v1. The changeset holds paths, hashes, labels and structural
  operations, never a value.
- Deterministic serialiser: sorted keys, null/undefined/"" collapsed, one
canonical number format, type-tagged so "1" and 1 cannot collide.
- 128-bit salted SHA-256 per value, with the salt source behind an
abstraction because it is a security decision, not a constant.
- Path encoding is fully qualified from the target root and falls back to
positional segments for id-less items, which is permanent rather than
  transitional.

No capture, no read API, no admin UI.

A deliberate departure from the original brief, which specified a hash per
changed field.

Nothing reads a stored hash across records: a no-op save is already signalled
by an empty changeset. A stored hash leaks a low-cardinality field's new value
to anyone who can read the timeline, and for the lowest-cardinality fields the
changeset entry leaks it regardless — recording that a boolean changed states
its new value. The only consumer that genuinely needs persistence, detecting a
revert to a previous value, is unspecified.

One-way door, accepted: a hash cannot be computed retroactively, so if revert
detection is specified later it works only from that point forward.

Hashing itself stays, inside the differ. Subtree short-circuiting and id-churn
detection compare two trees hashed fresh within a single save, so with nothing
persisted there is nothing to salt against — a constant salt cancels out inside
one comparison. The hasher and its salt abstraction are therefore replaced by a
pure function.

Checkpoint 3b. A pure function over two value trees, parameterised over a
minimal field-descriptor tree so core/ keeps no CMS dependency and every
behaviour is testable from hand-written descriptors and values.

- Items match in three passes: stable id, then content hash, then a
positional zip. The third is not in the brief but is load-bearing here:
next has no stable ids, so without it editing one item of a list of
objects reports a removal plus an addition. Gated on at least one side
lacking an id, so id-bearing lists stay strict.
- Content hashes strip _id at every depth, which is what makes id churn and
identity-being-established read as unchanged rather than as a rewrite.
- Subtree hashes short-circuit descent, so a diff costs what changed rather
than the size of the entry.
- A longest increasing subsequence over surviving items means inserting one
block reports one addition instead of a cascade of moves.
- Additions, removals and template replacements report at block level. A
moved block is descended into: it exists on both sides, and dragging and
editing in one save is two things.
- Past the cap, the overflow collapses to its nearest common ancestor,
labelled from the model, rather than being dropped.

143 tests. cms/model/toFieldDescriptors projects a real model onto the
descriptor tree, reading fields directly rather than through the AST
converter, which needs the GraphQL registry that capture cannot rely on.

…tches

The zip was flat over the leftover sets, so it paired across the matches
separating them. Insert a block at the top and edit a different block lower
down: the leftovers are one original on the left against an inserted item and
an edited item on the right, and a flat zip pairs the inserted block with the
edited block's original. It reported field changes inside something that had
just been inserted, and reported the block that actually changed as an
addition. Right counts, wrong items — on every list on this branch, since
next has no stable ids.

Confirmed matches now partition both lists and leftovers pair only inside the
same gap. Boundaries come from the order-preserving backbone of those matches,
since a match that moved would produce overlapping gaps. Within one gap
nothing distinguishes the candidates, so they pair in order: the counts are
right and which leftover is "the same item" stays arbitrary, which is the
honest position when identity is absent.

Also adds an agreement test pinning toFieldDescriptors to ModelToAstConverter
on a representative model, since reading model structure directly leaves two
interpreters that could drift. It runs rather than skips — the field-type
registry builds standalone — and warns if that ever stops being true.

Checkpoint 3a. Twelve thin event handlers over one recorder that owns the
private-model filter, actor resolution, source labelling, correlation ids,
diffing and persistence.

Failure containment is the requirement that mattered most and is tested from
nine angles: storage failing, rejecting and throwing synchronously; identity
and source resolution throwing; malformed model, malformed entry, and model
fields that are not the shape the type claims. record() resolves in every
case, and reports rather than swallowing silently.

Source labelling needed a task probe, which is a finding rather than a
preference. TaskControl and ExecuteScheduledActionUseCase both impersonate
the initiating human, so identity cannot tell a scheduled publish from a
hand-clicked one and every machine write would be attributed to that editor.
TaskExecutionContext is the intent channel that already exists, resolved as
an optional dependency so a project without background tasks can still
construct the recorder.

deleteAllForTarget now reports { finished, deleted } instead of void. The
purge task has to tell finished from more-remain from broken; collapsing the
middle case is what makes EmptyTrashBinTaskDefinition spin. The task stops on
a stall rather than retrying, and that is tested.

The tier gate could not be closed and is reported rather than improvised:
there is no public way to gate on a flag name the platform does not know, and
the real fix spans five packages plus a WCP-side licence change. Interim state
is a required `enabled` parameter with no default, so nothing self-registers.

…s it found

A parameterised suite defined against ActivityLogStorage and nothing else —
no models, no entries, no cursor it can read. The private-model adapter runs
it against a real CMS and a real backend; a replacement store runs the same
file unchanged, so the swap is verified rather than assumed. Adding a second
implementation costs one ten-line file. Passes on both sql and ddb, with no
storage flag needed.

It found two defects that 278 unit tests had missed, both invisible without
real storage:

- Every list call was broken. Model fields sort as values_<fieldId>_<ORDER>,
not <fieldId>_<ORDER>; extractSort matches a bare name only against
top-level meta fields and throws otherwise. The read path had never once
  succeeded.
- A permanent delete would have failed wherever background tasks were not
registered. TaskService was a required constructor dependency of
PurgeOnEntryDeleted, and the event publisher constructs handlers before
running them, so the isPrivate guard inside handle could never be reached.
Optional is the only form of that guard that works.

The cursor is now opaque in fact, not just in type. The CMS cursor is a
base64 offset paginating by slice(start, end), which is unstable under append
— a record arriving between two page reads shifts every later record down and
re-shows page one's tail, which on an append-only log read newest-first is the
ordinary case — and meaningless to any other store. The adapter mints its own
keyset cursor over a private sequence key that cannot tie inside a
millisecond, and the CMS cursor never crosses the interface.

Also enumerates in the plan what is not behind the abstraction: private model
registration, the adapter-private ordering key, deployment and upgrade for a
new store, purge chunk sizing, and read authorisation.

…otonic sort key

Construction is a failure mode of its own and the containment suite is blind
to it: EventPublisher resolves every handler for an event before invoking any,
so a required dependency that is not registered throws inside the write,
before any guard in handle and before any try in the recorder exists. Every
containment test exercises an already-constructed handler.

Two guards, so this fails in CI rather than in a deployment:

- Guard 3 constructs every handler and service against a container holding
only the platform abstractions the feature may assume, with background
tasks deliberately absent — the configuration that broke.
- Guard 4 reads the source and rejects any non-optional dependency outside
that contract, so a handler nobody adds to guard 3 still cannot introduce
  one unnoticed.

The audit found no further instances: the dependency surface is twelve
tokens, four self-registered, six unconditional platform prerequisites, and
the two that can be absent were already optional.

Guard 3 then exposed a third storage defect via the conformance suite: the
sort key was unique but not monotonic, so records written inside one
millisecond came back scrambled. It had passed earlier by luck. The key now
carries a fixed-width intra-millisecond tick between the timestamp and the
random suffix — monotonic within a process, unique across them, which is the
pair of properties a keyset cursor over an append-only log needs. Stable over
three consecutive runs on both sql and ddb.

Also records the conformance suite in the plan as a merge requirement rather
than an artefact, and notes the offset cursor as a worked example of the
already-filed entry-list cursor defect.

… exists

Checkpoint 4. The brief described APW at 5.44 and confirming it was what
caught that: packages/api-apw is gone, ApwContentReviewContent has zero
occurrences, and APW is now api-workflows over a wbyWorkflowState private
model. Four corrections, all verified in source.

One hop, not two: targetId and targetRevisionId sit directly on the workflow
state, and app is cms.<modelId> so getModelIdFromAppName both resolves the
model and filters non-CMS targets.

There ARE events for the review actions, which the brief said there were not.
Capture subscribes to them rather than to afterUpdate — the opposite of the
brief's mechanism, because afterUpdate is published only by
UpdateWorkflowStateUseCase and approve, reject, start and take-over all
bypass it by writing through the repository. Diffing it would have missed
every step transition. It is redundant where it does fire: cancel publishes
both. The action events are complete; there is no updateWorkflowState
mutation, so no step state changes without one of them.

Change requests and sign-off are dropped, not approximated. Zero occurrences
across all three workflows packages.

Actions: submitted, step started, step approved with which step, step
rejected, step taken over, cancelled, terminal approved/rejected, deleted.
Step started earns its place because approval does not activate the next step
here — picking one up is its own action. Record-level state is recorded only
when terminal, since a non-final approval moves it to pending, which merely
mirrors the step. A final approval still yields two records, but because two
things are true rather than because the next step activated.

Record shape gains subject { id, label } and hasNote. The step comment's
content is never recorded — author-written free text is what "no content
values ever" excludes — but its presence is, because a rejection with an
explanation and a bare rejection differ in an audit trail.

Failure containment is consolidated into a shared ActivityWriter rather than
duplicated into a second recorder. The private-model filter is now asserted:
it prevents unbounded recursion on the log's own records and double-reporting
of workflow state saves, with both model ids named in the test.

389 tests, green on sql and ddb.

Checkpoint 5 deliverable. A proposal, not an implementation — nothing is
built.

Grounded in what exists on next: createPermissionSchema, cms.contentEntry,
AccessControl.canAccessEntry, and the advancedAccessControlLayer.
hcmsFieldPermissions entitlement.

Two permissions, activityLog.timeline and activityLog.actor, both global
capabilities. Model scoping comes from canAccessEntry, which already consults
cms.contentModel and cms.contentEntry — so an entry whose model the reader
cannot read has no reachable timeline, with no second model list to diverge.

Confirms the assumption that a reader without actor identity still sees the
record: hiding it would make the timeline lie by omission. Also names the hole
that cannot be designed away — a record carries revision, and the entry's own
revisionSavedBy names who saved it, so for saves the actor is recoverable by
joining the two. Three options offered, none picked.

Tier is untouched by design: permissions are RBAC, entitlement is licensing.
The field filter is an AACL enhancement, not a prerequisite, so it does not
tie the timeline to that entitlement.

The filter attaches at ListActivityUseCase as a decoratable no-op, not in
storage, not in the resolver, not in the UI. Manage API only.

On what paths leak: mostly nothing new, since model structure is already
introspectable and version compare already shows changed fields with values.
The genuinely new signal is change frequency and timing aggregated across
revisions, which no existing surface offers.

Checkpoint 5, built from the approved proposal with the three corrections.

Two permissions, activityLog.timeline and activityLog.actor, both global.
Model scoping comes from canAccessEntry, which already consults
cms.contentModel and cms.contentEntry, so an entry whose model the reader
cannot read has no reachable timeline and there is no second model list to
diverge.

Check order corrected from the proposal: permission, then resolve the model,
then canAccessEntry. The reverse order returns NotFound before authorising,
which makes the query an existence oracle over every entry in the
installation. Four tests hold the order.

The revision-join limit is written into the activityLog.actor permission's
own description, not only in the design document, because that is the text
someone reads while granting it. Stripping the revision would not close the
join — a reader could match a record's timestamp against each revision's
savedOn — and the leak is partial anyway, since revisionSavedBy names only
the last saver of a revision.

That needed a description field, which EntityDefinition did not have on
either the api-core or app-admin side and PermissionsGroup did not render.
Four small additive edits across two packages.

Manage-side only by construction rather than by a conditional: the query
lives on the core admin schema, and the CMS read and preview endpoints are
separate schemas it cannot appear on. modelId is a third argument and
unavoidable, since authorisation needs the model and it cannot be derived
from a bare target id without the read being authorised.

ActivityChangesetFilter is a decoratable no-op — correct today, since the
CMS field permission evaluator returns false unconditionally so no field is
restricted for anybody.

Guard 4 caught a defect in itself: its regex ran past the dependency array in
the GraphQL factory and swept up every capitalised identifier after it. Eight
of twelve reported offenders were false. A guard that cries wolf trains
people to widen the allowlist to silence it.

408 tests, green on sql and ddb.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Answering the question directly: neither protection held. Storage keys
records on targetType and targetId only — records carry no model — and the
caller-supplied modelId was never checked against the target's actual model.
So a reader could authorise against a model they can read and retrieve
activity for a target in one they cannot, by passing a readable modelId with
the targetId of an entry elsewhere.

Closed by reading the target within the supplied model via
GetLatestRevisionByEntryIdIncludingDeletedUseCase, which fails when the entry
is not in that model and performs canAccessEntry itself — so authorisation
and membership are one call on the sanctioned path rather than two checks
that could drift. The IncludingDeleted variant is deliberate: this feature
records trashing and restoring, so a binned entry's timeline has to stay
readable, and that history is often the point.

Also adds a self-test for guard 4. Its token extraction is now a shared
function tested against a fixture with a known count and deliberate bait
placed after a non-empty dependency array, mirroring the GraphQL factory
shape that actually broke it. Verified with teeth: reintroducing the greedy
regex fails five tests, including the bait test. The first fixture attempt
did not fire, because its bait followed an empty array and so did not
reproduce the real failure.

420 tests.

…components

Checkpoint 6. Plain presentation over a shaping layer that has no React in it.

src/timeline/ is pure and tested: state derivation, collapsing, grouping,
path rendering, and what a row discloses. src/hooks/buildTimelineView is the
whole pipeline as one function; useActivityTimeline holds only fetch, page and
filter state. The components arrange what those return and decide nothing,
which is the difference between the handover replacing layout and the
handover being a rewrite.

The two pre-feature states turned out to be three, following review. Not
"empty versus predates" but which statement is true: no activity matches
these filters; we have no record of this entry's history; or here is the
activity, and history before this point was not recorded. The third is the
common case after an upgrade — created before the feature, edited yesterday —
and needs both the activity and the boundary.

Coverage is discriminated on the presence of an entry.create record rather
than a date, because a date comparison against createdOn cannot separate an
entry created before the feature and never touched from one created before it
and edited yesterday. It is also not asserted while a filter is active or
pages remain, since the creation record may be filtered out or on a later
page.

Only saves collapse, and never two redacted actors — merging those would
assert they were the same person, which is what a reader without actor
identity may not know. A closed row says how much changed, not what.

73 tests on the shaping layer. Also fixes a bug the tests caught: a path
ending at an identified block dropped its container, because only positional
segments were tracked.

…ance criteria

Capture, end to end. Every other test of capture in the package runs against
a fake — the recorder with a fake writer, the writer with fake storage, the
handlers with a fake recorder — none of which proves that saving an entry
produces a record. The wiring between the CMS's events and this feature's
handlers is the one part a fake cannot exercise.

Two of the fourteen were verified by breaking the code they cover:

  - Removing the private model filter makes twelve of them hang rather than
fail, which is the recursion the filter exists to prevent: a record is an
entry in a private model, so recording one produces another.
  - Removing failure containment from both the writer and the recorder fails
exactly the two tests that claim a save survives a broken recorder, and
    nothing else.

The two request harnesses had already diverged, so they are now one
`useTestRequest` with a `setup` seam. Which features are registered, in what
order and under which identity is subtle enough that a second copy would drift
invisibly.

Also brings the package's tests to zero errors under `check:test:types`. Most
were untyped `vi.fn` mocks losing their argument types, which made
`mock.calls[0][0]` unusable and quietly weakened the assertions built on it.

⚠️ 3 thing(s) worth a look before merging.

Large new-feature PR (activity log) is well-scoped to its stated intent; no integrity red flags (no secrets, no unexplained deletions, no conflict markers) and only minor, low-confidence style nits in test-support code.

🚨 Should this be in the PR?

🟡 Low — Debug console.log-style diagnostic left in test scan (not backend rule violation, but worth noting)

packages/api-activity-log/tests/diff/astAgreement.test.ts uses console.warn to report a skipped check inside a test file — acceptable in tests, not a real issue, listed only for completeness.

🟡 Low — Footprint matches stated intent

The diff is large (+14926/-11 across 156 files) but the PR description explicitly describes a large, multi-package new feature (two new packages, 523 tests) which fully accounts for the size — this is not a footprint mismatch; the large additions are new files only, and the 11 deletions are trivial and consistent with wiring changes into existing bundles. No signs of accidental deletion, secrets, debug leftovers, or merge conflict markers were found in the reviewed portion of the diff.

📏 Code-style rule checks

🟡 Low — CommonJS require-style export pattern in test helper

packages/api-activity-log/tests/support/bridgeLegacyPlugins.ts uses export function processLegacyPlugins(...) with any typed casts (as any) rather than typed annotations; while this is a test-support file and not backend production code, the as any casts on plugin.apply({ container } as any) should ideally use a typed annotation instead of an inline cast per prefer-type-annotation-over-cast.md, though the impact is minor since it's confined to a legacy-plugin bridge in test support.

Automated, non-blocking heads-up from an LLM. It can be wrong — use your judgment. Regenerates on every push.

…ndles

Closes both tier-gate sites the way they can be closed today: with an explicit
`enabled: true` at the API registration and the admin entry point mounted
unconditionally. Neither reads a feature flag, because an unregistered flag
name resolves to enabled for anyone holding any licence — a lookup would gate
nothing while reading like a gate that works. The hard-coded value is at least
honest about that, and it is the one line to change when WCP issues
`features.activityLog`.

API registration goes after CMS and Workflows, since it records activity from
both. `api-event-handler-aws-ddb`'s fresh-install test is the only test that
exercises the shared request stack end to end; it passes, so the private model
and the purge task definition register cleanly on a new install.

Saving left the timeline stale until the entry was closed and re-opened. The
timeline fetched once per target and had no way of knowing a save happened —
capture is server-side, and the entry form publishes no after-save event a
decorator can hook.

The available signal is the entry itself: every mutation returns the saved
entry and the form replaces its own copy with it, so a `writeSignature` over
id, savedOn, revisionSavedOn, revisionLastPublishedOn and meta.status changes
on a save, a new revision, a publish, an unpublish and a republish. The
observer re-renders with it and the hook refreshes.

Refresh is not reload. It never raises the loading state, because that renders
a skeleton — every save would blank the timeline the reader is looking at. It
never surfaces an error either: replacing a good timeline with "Could not load
activity" because a background refetch blipped is worse than slightly stale
rows, and the reader did not ask for that fetch. It shows "Updating…" above the
rows instead, and keeps pages the reader already loaded rather than collapsing
back to the first page.

It also retries, which is not belt-and-braces. A record is written inside the
entry write, so on DynamoDB-only and SQL it is already persisted when the
mutation returns and the first attempt succeeds. On DynamoDB-and-OpenSearch,
listing entries reads OpenSearch fed by a DynamoDB stream, so "persisted" and
"visible to a query" are seconds apart — a single refetch there would usually
come back without the record the reader just caused, reproducing the bug. Five
attempts over about five seconds, then it gives up quietly: a save that
produced no record is indistinguishable from one still in flight, and guessing
is worse than being one refresh behind. No retry when a filter is active, where
"nothing new arrived" is not evidence of a lagging read model.

Verified by reverting: dropping the refresh fails four of the new tests,
including the reported bug; capping the retry at one attempt fails the two that
cover the lagging read model.

Rebuilds the admin timeline against the Claude Design exploration, on
@webiny/admin-ui components.

Placement follows the design's own conclusion — a panel beside the form, not a
tab or a slide-over, because activity is read next to the field it describes.
SplitView/LeftPanel/RightPanel is how this codebase already does that:
PreviewDecorator puts the live preview beside the same form through the same
ContentEntryFormContent seam, so the panel gets a real resize handle and the
form keeps its full width while it is closed. A header ButtonAction toggles it,
and the two share one open/closed state through a presenter, following
RevisionsListPresenter.

Design-system components carry the panel: Accordion.Item is the expandable
save, Avatar the actor, Tag every badge and dismissible filter chip, Alert
every notice, EmptyState both empty states, TimeAgo the relative time, Popover
the filter controls. Two things are hand-rolled because nothing equivalent
exists: the timeline rail and the sticky revision header — which together are
what makes one revision holding many saves readable.

Everything the rows *say* went into pure functions, not components:
describeAction turns an action into an editorial sentence ("added a block", not
"entry.update · 1") and names the dominant operation rather than listing every
one; describeActor answers "was a person actually there"; describeGroup writes
the revision header; describeTimeline keeps the summary counts honest while
only part of the history is loaded.

Two harness bugs surfaced and are fixed rather than worked around:

  - @webiny/icons svgs resolved to undefined under vitest, so React threw
mid-render and the thrown text landed in container.textContent, corrupting
assertions unrelated to icons. No package in the repo rendered an admin-ui
component with an icon, so nothing had caught it. Aliased to a stub in the
shared config, scoped to @webiny/icons so a project-local svg imported for
its URL is untouched. Verified against admin-ui, app-admin,
    app-headless-cms and app-aco.
  - Testing Library cleanup was not running between tests, so screen queries
saw earlier tests' markup. It surfaced as "found multiple elements" as soon
as two tests described a similar row.

161 tests, up from 108.

# Conflicts:
#	packages/cli-core/files/references.json
… claims

The merge of `next` brought in the background-tasks split, which broke the
purge task: a task is now metadata plus a handler class, and `ITaskDefinition`
requires `handler`. Migrated following `CleanupStaleMultipartUploadsTask` —
storage moves to the handler, the definition keeps identity and policy and
takes no dependencies, which is the point of the split: the runner builds every
definition to match one by id and only the winner's handler.

Its tests now resolve the handler the way `GetRunnableTaskDefinitionUseCase`
does, and the policy assertions moved to the definition, where policy now
lives. One test added for the property the split exists to provide — building
the metadata constructs nothing expensive.

Two claims this branch makes were invalidated by the same merge and are
corrected rather than left to rot:

  - #5695 removed the feature-flag behaviour the tier gate's reasoning rested
on. A name absent from LICENSE_CHECKS no longer resolves to enabled for
anyone holding any licence; it now answers false unless the project's own
config sets it true. So "a lookup would gate nothing while reading like a
gate that works" is no longer true. `enabled` stays a required parameter,
but for a different reason, now stated: a project-configured flag makes the
feature opt-in per install without making it something the licence governs.
  - `EmptyTrashBinTaskDefinition` was rechecked rather than assumed. It has
moved onto the handler shape but still checks `isCloseToTimeout()` twice in
a row and still re-lists the first page inside a `while (true)`, so the
    comments citing both defects stand.

Stable item ids are still absent from `next` — no forward-merge from
release/6.5.0 in these 30 commits — so the PR's declared dependency is
unchanged.

Support digits and underscores in dependency token names.

The patterns accept only [A-Za-z]+. A valid token such as OAuth2Client or Token_2 produces no match. The construction guard can then miss a required dependency.

Use the same TypeScript identifier pattern for optional-tuple removal and token extraction. Add a regression test with a digit-bearing token.

Exclude opted-out events from actionEvents.

WORKFLOW_OPT_OUT_RULES already matches workflowState.beforeX, but the filter excludes only workflowState.afterUpdate. A declared before-event would therefore enter actionEvents and make the equality assertion fail.

Register cleanup for EntryAfterDeleteMultipleEventHandler. DeleteMultipleEntriesRepository calls DeleteMultipleEntriesStorageOperation directly. Its storage implementations permanently delete the entry data and do not call DeleteEntryUseCase or emit per-entry EntryAfterDeleteEvent. The use case emits only EntryAfterDeleteMultipleEvent, while RecordEntriesDeletedInBulk records one "entry.delete" activity for each entry. PurgeOnEntryDeleted listens only to EntryAfterDeleteEventHandler, so permanent bulk deletions leave those activity records orphaned.

Add a bulk cleanup handler that enqueues one purge task per deleted entry.

Align the decoder alphabet with what the encoder accepts.

listItemSegment accepts any non-empty string _id, and encodePath rejects only ., #, [ and ]. The #[a-z0-9]+ decoder pattern drops or truncates IDs such as A1 and abc-def. For example, sections#A1.title becomes ["sections", "title"], so commonParentPath can return sections.title for paths under different items. rollUp then adds that incorrect path and label to the changeset.

♻️ Widen the item segment pattern

Rslib 0.23.2 lib bundle false unbundled ESM external imports preserve import specifiers

💡 Result:

<search_synthesis>
In Rslib, when using bundleless mode (lib.bundle: false), Rslib operates without a bundling concept, which means all third-party dependencies are treated as external by default and are not bundled into your output files [1][2][3]. Regarding your specific requirements: 1. Unbundled ESM: In bundleless mode, Rslib transforms your source code into multiple files, preserving the file structure and keeping package specifiers (e.g., import {... } from &#39;pkg&#39;) intact in the output [4][5]. 2. External Imports: Because there is no bundling, all imports from third-party dependencies (node_modules) are automatically left unbundled as external imports [1][3]. 3. Preserve Import Specifiers: Bundleless mode naturally preserves your original import specifiers [5]. If you need to manage how these imports are redirected—for example, to automatically add file extensions required for ESM in Node.js or to apply aliases—you should use the lib.redirect configuration [6]. Key points for managing bundleless mode: - lib.bundle: false: This enables the bundleless mode [4][7]. - lib.redirect: Use this to control how import paths in your output are handled. For instance, setting redirect.js.extension to true helps ensure ESM compatibility in Node.js by automatically adding the correct file extensions to your import paths [6]. - No Auto-External Needed: The lib.autoExternal configuration is specific to bundle mode and does not take effect in bundleless mode, as dependencies are never bundled in that mode [1]. - Aliases: While output.externals and resolve.alias work in bundle mode, in bundleless mode, Rslib automatically handles modules resolved to your outBase directory based on your resolve.alias or tsconfig.json settings [3].
</search_synthesis>

It will not take effect in bundleless mode (set lib.bundle to `false`) since deps will not be bundled in bundleless mode. ::: - **Type:** ```ts type AutoExternal = | boolean | { dependencies?: boolean; optionalDependencies?: boolean; devDependencies?: boolean; peerDependencies?: boolean; }; ``` - **Default:** - `true` when format is `cjs` or `esm` - `false` when format is `umd` or `mf` - **CLI:** `--auto-external` / `--no-auto-external` Whether to automatically externalize dependencies of different dependency types and do not bundle them. ## Object type ### autoExternal.dependencies - **Type:** `boolean` - **Default:** `true` Whether to automatically externalize dependencies of type `dependencies`. ### autoExternal.optionalDependencies - **Type:** `boolean` - **Default:** `true` Whether to automatically externalize dependencies of type `optionalDependencies`. ### autoExternal.peerDependencies - **Type:** `boolean` - **Default:** `true` Whether to automatically externalize dependencies of type `peerDependencies`. ### autoExternal.devDependencies - **Type:** `boolean` - **Default:** `false` Whether to automatically externalize dependencies of type `devDependencies`. ## Default value The default value of `autoExternal` is `true`, which means the following dependency types will **not be bundled**: - `dependencies` - `optionalDependencies` - `peerDependencies` And the following dependency types will be **bundled**: - `devDependencies` This configuration is equivalent to the following object type: ```ts export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;esm&`#39`;, autoExternal: { dependencies: true, optionalDependencies: true, peerDependencies: true, devDependencies: false, }, }, ], }; ``` ## Example ### Customize externalized dependency types To disable the processing of a specific type of dependency, you can configure `autoExternal` as an object like this: ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;esm&`#39`;, autoExternal: { dependencies: false, peerDependencies: false, }, }, ], }; ``` ### Disable default behavior If you want to disable the default behavior, you can set `autoExternal` to `false`: ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;esm&`#39`;, autoExternal: false, }, ], }; ``` For more details about handling third-party dependencies, please refer to Handle Third-party Dependencies. <title>Result 2</title> https://rslib.rs/guide/advanced/third-party-deps # Handle third-party dependencies This section introduces how to handle third-party dependencies in bundle mode. Generally, third-party dependencies required by a project can be installed via the `install` command in the package manager. After the third-party dependencies are successfully installed, they will generally appear under `dependencies` and `devDependencies` in the project `package.json`. ```json { "dependencies": {}, "devDependencies": {} } ``` Dependencies under `"dependencies"` are generally required for the package in runtime, and if these third-party dependencies are declared under `"devDependencies"`, then there will be missing dependencies in production runtime. In addition to `"dependencies"`, `"peerDependencies"` can also declare dependencies that are needed in the production environment, but it puts more emphasis on the existence of these dependencies declared by `"peerDependencies"` in the project&`#39`;s runtime environment, similar to the plugin mechanism. ## Default handling of third-party dependencies By default, when generating CJS or ESM outputs, third-party dependencies under `"dependencies"`, `"optionalDependencies"` and `"peerDependencies"` are not bundled by Rslib. This is because when the npm package is installed, its `"dependencies"` will also be installed. By not packaging `"dependencies"`, you can reduce the size of the package product. If you need to package some dependencies, it is recommended to move them from `"dependencies"` to `"devDependencies"`, which is equivalent to prebundle the dependencies and reduces the size of the dependency installation. ### Example If the project depends on `foo`. ```json { "dependencies": { "foo": "^1.0.0" }, // or "peerDependencies": { "foo": "^1.0.0" } } ``` When the `foo` dependency is used in the source code: ```tsx import foo from &`#39`;foo&`#39`;; console.info(foo); ``` The `foo` package will not be bundled into the output: ```js import foo from &`#39`;foo&`#39`;; console.info(foo); ``` If you want to modify the default processing, you can use the following API: - lib.autoExternal - output.externals ## Exclude specified third-party dependencies The configuration described above allows you to implement more fine-grained handling of third-party dependencies. For example, when we need to leave only certain dependencies unbundled, we can configure it as follows. In this case, some dependencies may not be suitable for bundling. If so, you can handle it as follows. ```ts export default defineConfig({ lib: [ { // ... autoExternal: true, output: { externals: [&`#39`;pkg-1&`#39`;, /pkg-2/], }, // ... }, ], }); ``` <title>resolve</title> https://rslib.rs/config/rsbuild/resolve # resolve Options for module resolution. ## resolve.aliasStrategy resolve.aliasStrategy Set the strategy for path alias resolution, to control the priority relationship between the paths option in `tsconfig.json` and the resolve.alias option. ## resolve.alias resolve.alias Set the alias for the module path, which is used to simplify the import path or redirect the module reference, similar to the resolve.alias config of Rspack. For TypeScript projects, you only need to configure compilerOptions.paths in the `tsconfig.json` file. Rslib will automatically recognize it, so there is no need to configure the `resolve.alias` option separately. It is worth noting that in bundle mode, both `resolve.alias` and output.externals can be used to set aliases, but they differ in the following ways: - `resolve.alias` is used to replace the target module with another module, which will be bundled into the output. For example, if you want to replace `lodash` with `lodash-es` when bundling a package, you can configure it as follows: export default { // ... resolve: { alias: { lodash: &`#39`;lodash-es&`#39`;, }, }, }; Now, all `lodash` imports in the source code will be mapped to `lodash-es` and bundled into the output. - `output.externals` is used to handle alias mapping for externalized modules. Externalized modules are not included in the bundle; instead, they are imported from external sources at runtime. For example, if you want to replace externalized modules `react` and `react-dom` with `preact/compat` in the bundle, you can configure it as follows: export default { // ... output: { externals: { react: &`#39`;preact/compat&`#39`;, &`#39`;react-dom&`#39`;: &`#39`;preact/compat&`#39`;, }, }, }; Now, the code `import { useState } from &`#39`;react&`#39`;` will be replaced with `import { useState } from &`#39`;preact/compat&`#39`;`. ::: note In bundleless mode, since there is no bundling concept, all modules will be externalized. Rslib will automatically transform the modules resolved to the outBase directory based on the mappings configured in `resolve.alias` or compilerOptions.paths in `tsconfig.json`. ::: ## resolve.conditionNames resolve.conditionNames Specifies the condition names used to match entry points in the exports field of a package. ## resolve.dedupe resolve.dedupe Force Rsbuild to resolve the specified packages from project root, which is useful for deduplicating packages and reducing the bundle size. ## resolve.extensions resolve.extensions Automatically resolve file extensions when importing modules. This means you can import files without explicitly writing their extensions. ## resolve.mainFields resolve.mainFields Controls the priority of fields in a package.json used to locate a package&`#39`;s entry file. It is the ordered list of package.json fields Rspack will try when resolving an npm package&`#39`;s entry point. <title>lib.bundle</title> https://rslib.rs/config/lib/bundle # lib.bundle - Type: `boolean` - Default: `true` - CLI: `--bundle` / `--no-bundle` Specify whether to bundle the library, which is known as bundle mode when `bundle` is set to `true`, and bundleless mode when set to `false`. See bundle / bundleless for more details. ## Set entry We should specify the entry file for the build. ### bundle: true When `bundle` is set to `true`, the entry should be set to the entry file. The default entry in bundle mode is `src/index.(ts|js|tsx|jsx|mjs|cjs)`. You should make sure that the entry file exists, or customize the entry through the source.entry configuration. Example: ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;cjs&`#39`;, bundle: true, }, ], source: { entry: { index: &`#39`;./foo/index.ts&`#39`;, }, }, }; ``` ### bundle: false When `bundle` is set to `false`, the entry should be set to a glob pattern to include all the files. The default entry in bundleless mode is `src/**`. Example: ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;cjs&`#39`;, bundle: false, }, ], source: { entry: { index: &`#39`;./foo/**&`#39`;, }, }, }; ``` You can also use with an exclamation mark to exclude some files. For example, exclude test files within the `src` folder: ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default { lib: [ { format: &`#39`;cjs&`#39`;, bundle: false, }, ], source: { entry: { index: [&`#39`;./src/**&`#39`;, &`#39`;!src/**/*.test.ts&`#39`;], }, }, }; ``` ::: note If declaration files generation is enabled, remember to set exclude field in `tsconfig.json` to avoid generating TypeScript declaration files for the corresponding files. For example, exclude test files within the `src` folder: ```json // tsconfig.json { "include": ["src"], "exclude": ["src/**/*.test.ts"] } ``` ::: ## Example For below file structure of source code: ``` . ├── src │ ├── index.ts │ ├── foo.ts │ └── bar.ts └── package.json ``` ### bundle: true ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default defineConfig({ lib: [ { format: &`#39`;cjs&`#39`;, bundle: true, }, ], }); ``` When `bundle` is set to `true`, as known as bundle mode, Rslib will bundle the library into a single file. ```diff . + ├── dist + │ └── index.js ├── src │ ├── index.ts │ ├── foo.ts │ └── bar.ts └── package.json ``` ### bundle: false ```ts title="rslib.config.ts" export default defineConfig({ lib: [ { format: &`#39`;cjs&`#39`;, bundle: false, }, ], source: { entry: { index: [&`#39`;./src/**&`#39`;], }, }, }); ``` When `bundle` is set to `false`, as known as bundleless mode, Rslib will transform the code into multiple files. ```diff . + ├── dist + │ ├── index.js + │ ├── foo.js + │ └── bar.js ├── src │ ├── index.ts │ ├── foo.ts │ └── bar.ts └── package.json ```

Add the .js extension to this ESM subpath import.

Rslib's unbundled ESM build preserves this package specifier and emits abstractions.js. The package export map maps "./*" to "./*", so Node does not add the extension during ESM resolution. Loading this module can therefore fail with ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND.

Clear refreshing when fetchPage supersedes refresh.

When a filter change or loadMore starts fetchPage during a refresh retry delay, fetchPage increments requestId. The refresh then exits and its finally block skips setRefreshing(false) because its ticket is stale. The current fetchPage cleanup clears only loading and loadingMore, so a successful fetch can leave refreshing set. The timeline keeps showing “Updating…” and disables the refresh button.

The refresh button itself is already disabled while refreshing is true, so it cannot trigger this interleaving. A later write-triggered refresh or closing and reopening the panel resets the state, but filter and paging actions do not.

Include years when the range crosses a year boundary.

A permanent timeline can contain a range such as December 31, 2025 to January 1, 2026. The current output shows only 31 Dec – 1 Jan. It can even reduce matching days and months from different years to one date.

Compare from.getFullYear() and to.getFullYear(). Include both years when they differ.

# Conflicts:
#	packages/cli-core/files/references.json
#5728 landed the licence plumbing this package documented as missing:
canUseActivityLog() across ILicense, License, NullLicense and ReactLicense,
collaboration.activityLog in LICENSE_CHECKS, and the flag in KnownFeatureFlag
and FeatureFlags.toDto(). Everything the PR listed as "five packages of work"
exists — only the consumer was missing.

So the tier gate closes here rather than being carried as an open item.
ActivityLogAppFeature reads the flag at register time, following
RecordLockingAppFeature, and the admin entry point reads the same flag,
following CmsWorkflows. Both halves have to agree: gating only the API would
leave the header offering an Activity button whose query does not exist, which
reads as a broken feature rather than an unsold one.

The `enabled` parameter is gone. It existed because before #5728 there was no
entitlement to read and an unregistered flag name resolved to enabled for
anyone holding any licence, so a lookup would have gated nothing while reading
exactly like a gate that works. That is no longer true.

createTestWcpLicense gains collaboration options, since the entitlement is
nested — canUseActivityLog() checks the parent first, so a suite wanting the
child has to grant both. The construction guard now proves both sides of the
gate, and a new test pins that it asks for collaboration.activityLog
specifically rather than passing on any flag being set.

Include the year when the range crosses a year boundary.

Records are kept permanently, so a group can span 31 December 2025 to 1 January 2026. The output is then 31 Dec – 1 Jan. Same-day, different-year timestamps collapse to one date.

Compare from.getFullYear() with to.getFullYear(). Include both years when they differ.

Count activity, not saves.

saveCount sums all records in the group. Publish, unpublish, review, move, restore, and delete records are included, so the header reports them as saves.

Count only entry.update records, or rename the count and use "activity"/"activities". describeTimeline.ts applies the same rule and should stay consistent.

Keep filter removal reachable in the error state.

When a filtered fetch fails, this branch renders only the alert. ActivityTimelineFilters and clearFilters disappear, so the reader cannot remove the filter that produced the failing query. The header refresh repeats the same filters.

Render ActivityTimelineFilters above the alert, or expose clearFilters inside the error branch.

refreshing can stay set when fetchPage supersedes refresh.

A filter change or loadMore during a refresh retry delay increments requestId. The refresh then returns early and its finally skips setRefreshing(false), because its ticket is stale. This cleanup clears only loading and loadingMore, so the panel keeps showing "Updating…" and keeps the refresh button disabled.

Assert all record fields in the round-trip test.

The test is named “round-trips every field of the record shape,” but it does not assert timestamp, subject, or hasNote. Add subject and hasNote to the input and assert all three fields. The private-model mapper stores and reconstructs these fields through distinct model fields. Its dateTimeWithTimezone path preserves the ISO timestamp, so exact equality is valid.

Keep the encoder and parser on the same item-ID contract.

encodePath accepts uppercase characters in an item ID, but splitPathSegments matches only [a-z0-9]+. For sections#aBc, splitting returns ["sections", "#a"], which can produce incorrect roll-up paths and labels. If item IDs must be lowercase, reject invalid IDs before encoding and test that contract. Otherwise, widen the parser and add a mixed-case round-trip test.

PurgeOnEntryDeleted listens only to EntryAfterDeleteEvent, so bulk deletions never schedule activity-record cleanup. The bulk recorder still adds records, leaving records for permanently deleted entries orphaned. Add a bulk-event cleanup handler that schedules the purge task for each entry.

Do not label every activity record as a save.

This group contains one entry.update and one entry.publish, but the assertion expects 2 saves. The production calculation counts every lifecycle and review record as a save.

Count only save actions, or label the total as activities. Otherwise, common publish and review events produce an inaccurate revision header.

Include actor type and source in the merge criteria.

mergeable ignores actor type and source. Two same-revision entry.update records can therefore merge when they share an actor ID but come from different sources. The rendered row uses only item.latest.actor and item.latest.source, so it can show one source for records from multiple sources.

This is a localized presentation error. The original records remain in item.records.

Require the same actor type and source before merging.

Count activity records as activities, not saves.

The summary counts every record but labels the result as saves. This produces incorrect text when the timeline contains publish, review, move, or other actions.

  • packages/app-activity-log/src/timeline/describeTimeline.ts#L35-L35: use neutral activity terminology, or count only save actions.

Mark the proposal as historical and update its entitlement status.

The parent plan records Checkpoint 5 as delivered. ActivityLogAppFeature now uses the collaboration.activityLog entitlement, replacing the open enabled parameter described in this proposal. Mark this file as a historical proposal and update the entitlement section to describe the final gate.

Superseded by #5743, which now targets next and carries the whole feature.

This PR's commits are all present there — feat/entry-activity-log-ai-summaries was stacked on this
branch, so its history contains this one in full. Its description has been folded into #5743 as well:
the four properties, the shape, what is captured, read authorisation, out-of-scope, and all fourteen
accepted-cost items, which are now items 1–14 of the combined list.

Closing rather than merging because reviewing half a feature against the other half is harder than
reviewing the whole, and nothing here had been reviewed by a person yet. The branch
feat/entry-activity-log is left in place.
