Integration branch for the Headless CMS entry activity log. Not a review target — review the chunk PRs below; this merges to next once they have all landed.
An activity timeline on every CMS entry: who changed what, when, grouped by revision. Each row carries a sentence describing the change, rendered from the recorded values or written by a model when the save is prose-heavy enough to be worth one.
Privacy: records store field paths and labels, never content values. The one exception carries a payload to the summary job and is cleared in the same write that consumes it.
Stacked, so each PR shows its ancestors until they merge. ~45% of the diff is tests.
Verified
923 tests. AI summaries confirmed end to end on a deployed install. The scheduled sweep confirmed by invoking the deployed Lambda — which is how two bugs in it were found. Panel checked in a running admin.
Open items
Tracked separately, not blockers: nothing schedules the sweep on standalone; findStaleValues cost; AI summaries are hidden inside collapsed runs; the empty-trash-bin cron has the same missing detail field this feature's sweep had (with the bulk-actions team).
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.

formatDateRange uses local Date.getDate() and Date.getMonth(), but these tests pass UTC instants. In UTC+7, 2026-08-28T17:00:00.000Z is 29 Aug locally, so the assertion can return 28–29 Aug instead of 28 Aug. The states.test.tsx case uses the same UTC-based fixtures.
Pin TZ=UTC for Vitest runs, or use local-time fixtures consistently.

Classify machine actors by source, as describeActor does.
describeActor treats every identity type as a person unless source is "api-key" or "system". Its comment says a non-admin type can come from an identity provider. actorOptions marks any actor whose type is not "admin" as a machine. For an IdP user with a different type, the timeline row shows initials but the filter menu shows a KeyIcon. The two views then disagree about whether a person made the change.

Stop the summary poll from cancelling fetches the reader started.
pollForSummaries calls ++requestId.current. This makes any in-flight fetchPage or refresh ticket stale. Those functions clear loading, loadingMore, and refreshing only while their ticket is current, at Lines 167-170 and 274-276. The poll timer resets only when records changes. So when a pending summary is on screen, the timer can fire during a "Load older activity" request. The page result is then dropped and loadingMore stays true. loadMore returns early on loadingMore, so the button stays disabled with the text "Loading…" until the reader reloads the page. A fetchPage that runs longer than 10s leaves loading stuck in the same way and shows a permanent skeleton.
A background poll must not take a ticket. It should skip while any request the reader started is in flight, and it should use the current ticket so that any newer request supersedes it.
Proposed fix
+ // Set while a fetch or refresh the reader caused is in flight. A poll never competes with one.+ const busy = useRef(0);+

The effect schedules the next poll only when records, filters, or pollForSummaries change. If a poll gets result.error, readNewestPage returns false and records stay unchanged. If gateway.list throws, the rejection is unhandled because the caller uses void. In both cases no new timer starts. One network error therefore stops polling, and the row shows "Summarising…" until a reload. That is the stuck state this effect exists to prevent. refresh has the same unhandled rejection, because its try has no catch.

Reachability: External Exploitability: Moderate CWE:CWE-200 — Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor
Honor the documented opt-out without removing timeline summaries.summaries: false promises that no content values are read or written, while deterministic timeline descriptions remain. But routeSummary builds the before/after value bundle before checking config.enabled, and the disabled decision sends those values to renderSummary, which can quote them into a summary stored on the record. Generate disabled summaries from changeset labels only, without reading or embedding field values. The GraphQL timeline returns summaries to callers with timeline and target-read access, and its default changeset filter does not apply field-level filtering.

TaskService.trigger returns a Result, but followSummary only catches thrown errors. An AI record is already stored with summaryState.values and no summary before follow runs. If trigger returns a failure, no task consumes those values, so the record can remain without a sentence until the sweeper clears them. Settle the record with the deterministic fallback immediately.
renderSummary requires explicit RenderSummaryOptions, not this.config.

Preserve the pending run head when joining a save.
When the second save joins a run, EntryActivityRecorder appends it with summaryRunId only. It has no summaryState.values or valuesWrittenOn. The storage list returns newest records first, so the second save becomes records[0]. isSummaryPending then returns false because that record has no values. A third save within the debounce window therefore starts a new run instead of extending the first run.
Change the lookup to find the pending run head past joined records, or resolve summaryRunId to that head before returning no run.

Strip summaryKind together with the summary in withoutSummary.
withoutSummary removes summary and summaryState but keeps summaryKind. toGraphQL emits summaryKind: record.summaryKind ?? null, so a hidden record reaches the client with summary: null and summaryKind: "ai" or "deterministic". A record that never had a summary has both fields null. The doc comment on this function and the test at listActivity.test.ts Lines 470-483 require the two cases to be indistinguishable. The admin timeline can also mark a row as AI-generated when that row has no sentence to show. The existing test does not catch this because it asserts only summary and summaryState.
Also add summaryKind: "ai" to the fixture in the suppression test and assert suppressed?.summaryKind is undefined.

Stop extendSummaryValues from leaving values that the sweeper can never find.
The settled-check reads only summary, and the check and the write are two separate operations. Two paths write summaryValues onto a record with no job left to consume them:
A job or sweeper settleSummary lands between getEntry (Line 264) and updateEntry (Line 280). The read sees an unsettled record. The update then writes the bundle after the settle cleared it.
The record was settled with a reason only, for example the sweeper's "abandoned". values.summary is null, so the check passes.
In both cases settleSummary has already set summaryValuesWrittenOn to null, and this update does not restore it. findStaleValues matches only records with both values.length and writtenOn (Lines 366-370). The sweeper therefore never reclaims these values, and nothing else clears them. The operation also returns extended: true, so the dispatcher keeps the joining save attributed to the run. This breaks the "must refuse a record whose summary has already settled" contract in abstractions.ts Lines 171-173. It also breaks the privacy obligation that values never outlive the job.
The private-model backend has no conditional write, so this code cannot fully close the race. It can make the lost race recoverable:

After this change, the sweeper's settleSummary({ reason: "abandoned" }) would also null the summary the job stored on that record. If keeping that sentence matters, add a values-only clear for the sweeper. Add a conformance case that settles with a reason only and then extends.

Match hidden fields by their full path.
hiddenFieldIds stores only fieldId, while touchesHidden matches that ID against every changeset path segment. CMS validation creates a new field-ID set for each nested container, so different containers can contain fields with the same ID. A hidden internal.salary can therefore also hide public.salary, removing that change and its summary. Store path-qualified field identities and match the corresponding change paths.

Suppress summaries for truncated changesets when field hiding is active.
A rolled-up changeset can retain author while omitting hidden author.secret. The summary path can send the full author object to AI, and the generated summary can quote secret. applyFieldPermissions checks only retained paths, so it keeps the summary. The admin then renders it.

The current equality check only examines directories that already contain eventType = "Cms/Entry/...". A new directory with neither an entry event nor a WRITE_USE_CASES entry would be excluded from both checks.
Add independent write-path discovery. Permit explicit delegation and intentional gaps, such as UpdateSingletonEntry, which delegates to UpdateEntryUseCase. Require every remaining entry write path to publish or delegate to a captured event.

The update selects the AI path because it changes two prose fields. That path calls storage.list for the debounce lookup. The current assertions do not prove that the injected failure ran.

Hide the closed drawer from keyboard and assistive technology.
When open is false, the drawer has width: 0 and opacity: 0. Its content stays in the DOM and in the tab order. After the first open, a keyboard user can tab into the invisible filter, refresh and close buttons. Screen readers also still announce them.
Add visibility: hidden while closed. Delay the change until the close transition ends, so the slide-out animation stays intact.

This branch accumulates the feature's chunk PRs and merges to `next` as one
feature once they have all landed. It carries no code of its own.
An empty commit because GitHub closes a pull request whose head branch holds
nothing its base does not — which is exactly the state an integration branch
is in before its first chunk merges. This gives the umbrella PR something to
exist on top of.
The pre-split history is preserved at `archive/activity-log-pre-split`, tagged

Integration branch for the Headless CMS entry activity log. Not a review target — review the chunk PRs below; this merges to
nextonce they have all landed.
