feat(api-websockets-standalone): close websockets with 1012 on shutdown - #6110
On SIGTERM or SIGINT, the standalone API's onShutdown (from #6084 and #6098) stopped background tasks and the scheduler, but never touched websockets. The process exited with every socket still open:
Browsers got an abnormal close. The socket dropped with no close frame, so clients saw 1006. They reconnected, but nothing told them the server was restarting.
The registry kept dead rows. This process's connections stayed in the connection registry until another process's heartbeat found them stale, up to 15 minutes later. Until then, a send to one of those users looked up a connection that no process held.
onShutdown now stops the websockets server too, at the same time as tasks and the scheduler.
What stop() does now
NodeWsAdapter.stop() closes every client with 1012 (service restart) and waits for the close to complete. A client that hasn't answered within a second (a frozen tab, a dead network) is cut. Before, it terminated every socket with no close code, and nothing called it on shutdown anyway.
WebsocketsServer.stop() takes this process's connections out of the registry while the sockets close, not one by one after them, so both fit in the shutdown. A registry failure is logged and doesn't keep sockets open.
NodeWsAdapter.stop() can now be called twice; the second call does nothing.
Shutdown in createWebinyApiHandler
onShutdown runs the three parts at once: tasks and scheduled actions get up to 6 seconds, websockets about one. It now waits for all three with Promise.allSettled and then rethrows the first failure. Before, with Promise.all, one rejection ended the wait and the process exited while tasks were still handing themselves back.
Not in this PR
Messages across processes. A websocket message still reaches only clients connected to the process that sent it. Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY is the next piece.
A connection still authenticating when the shutdown starts can be registered after the registry cleanup ran. That row is left for the heartbeat's stale cleanup, as before.
Tests
api-websockets-standalone, 47 passing. New:
NodeWsAdapter.test.ts: stop() closes clients with 1012; a client that doesn't answer the close (paused, so it never replies) is cut after about a second.
WebsocketsServer.test.ts: stop() closes sockets with 1012 and unregisters their connections; sockets still close with 1012 when the registry fails.
api-event-handler-standalone, 20 passing.
Not run yet: SIGTERM against a real standalone server with a browser connected. The new tests use a real ws server and client, but not the full handler.
On SIGTERM the API stopped tasks and the scheduler, then exited with
every websocket still open. The browser saw an abnormal close (1006),
and this process's connections stayed in the registry until another
process's heartbeat found them stale, up to 15 minutes later.
onShutdown now stops the websockets server too, alongside tasks and the
scheduler. Each client is closed with 1012 (service restart) and cut if
it has not answered within a second; the connections are taken out of
the registry at the same time. A failing part no longer cuts the
others short: onShutdown waits for all three, then reports the first
failure.

Shutdown now closes WebSocket clients with code 1012, removes active connections, and coordinates WebSocket shutdown with background task and scheduler shutdown in the standalone API handler.
NodeWsAdapter.stop() requests client closure with code 1012 and waits for clients to close. It terminates clients that remain open after 1,000 ms, then closes the WebSocket server. Tests cover the close code and timeout behavior.
Server connection cleanup packages/api-websockets-standalone/src/server/WebsocketsServer.ts, packages/api-websockets-standalone/__tests__/server/WebsocketsServer.test.ts
WebsocketsServer.stop() starts adapter shutdown and active connection removal together. Tests check connection cleanup and confirm that a rejected registry unregister does not prevent client closure.
The handler retains the WebSocket shutdown callback and awaits it alongside background task and scheduler shutdown. It waits for all three operations to settle before rethrowing the first rejection.
webiny/webiny-js#6098: This PR extends the handler shutdown flow that retains and stops the scheduler.
webiny/webiny-js#6084: This PR extends the standalone handler shutdown hook that stops background tasks.
Merge Risk: Low · up to 01c60
Shutdown now closes WebSocket clients gracefully and runs alongside task and scheduler shutdown. If the connection registry stalls during shutdown, the process can wait up to the eight-second process-level limit before exiting. Consider adding a short cleanup deadline; this is not a merge blocker.

Bound registry cleanup during WebSockets shutdown.
A pending ConnectionRegistry.unregister keeps WebsocketsServer.stop() pending after socket closure. The SQL registry awaits several database operations without a local deadline. The outer signal handler exits after eight seconds, so the process is bounded, but shutdown can still exceed the intended WebSockets budget. Add a cleanup deadline while keeping socket closure concurrent.
